View Full Version : Eagles- Falcons

My bold prediction (Falcon's fans are not going to like it)- The Falcons will continue their streak of not having back-to-back winning seasons. There will at least be one major injury tonight, and the Eagles are going to blow the Black Birds out in the Dome. The secondary is going to give up long pass after long pass tonight and through-out the season, and the defense will end up with the worst pass defense in the league.
I hope all of that is not true, and by saying it out loud it will remove the jinx. Sadly, I really don't think that will be the case.

I hope all of that is not true, and by saying it out loud it will remove the jinx. Sadly, I really don't think that will be the case. With the schedule we have this year, if we go 10-6, Blank, Mora and Vick deserve keys to the city. Key questions this seasons...
Can the Birds navigate a murderous schedule and stay relatively injury-free while winning enough games to keep the franchise moving forward?
Vick enters a key season in his development. Based on the development arc of other QB's, this could be *the* critical year to see what he's going to become. Will another season in the new offense be the key for him?
D. Hall also is in a position to have a step-it-up season. How does he look?
Will an above-average wide receiver emerge?
Can Warrick still get it done, and will TJ remain content as a backup?
I'll have to miss the first few minutes of this one tonight, but am looking forward to picking it up some time in the first quarter.

In another league I need McNabb to be unavoidably detained by a roving band of rabid midget line dancers.

Sounds like we have kinda the same situation.
I've got an 18 point lead right now.
They've got McNabb left to play
And I've got Vick left to play.
And yet, somehow, I feel like I'm going to have to be lucky to pull this out.

2. I need the final point total to be between 43-48 to win my office pool.
3. I need Warrick Dunn to outscore David Akers by 2.02 points to win my one winnable fantasy football game tonight.

There stats are fairly even, McNabb has had much worse receivers historically, and has turned the ball over much less than Culpepper.

Last thoughts...
You said Culpepper fumbled a lot. I agree; however, you can't dispute the fact that McNabb has had a better defense (and coach (thanks FN)) than Culpepper.
Also, it isn't excuses for Culpepper, it's reasons why McNabb is good...the same way Trent Dilfer was good in Baltimore.

It's MNF, so we have the horse trailer. Any player moronic enough to throw a cheap shot early in the game will get the "horses ass" award for stupidity.
Especially if the cheap shot is on a star player. An early late hit on Vick or McNabb will be fined heavily. These guys all need to get their emotions under control. No late hits, not cheap shots, no fights.
I can promise you the officials have warned both locker rooms that there will be fines and suspensions heavily doled out if anything occurs in the game.

The Eagles are a better team, but without Trotter, their run defense will be suspect. That happens to be the thing Atlanta does best. Don't foget the emotion of the home game either.

Short. He can throw the ball a billion miles deep. Having time to do with with the Falcons o-line is another matter.
The Falcons O-Line is pretty damned good. Many of Vick's sacks are generated by Vick. His biggest talent can also be a weakness when he starts running around trying to make something happen and gets sacked.
The Falcons O-Line also is a big help to Dunn and Duckett. You don't run the ball that well without a decent O-Line, even with Vick.
As for Vick, that last pass was about as good as you can throw it. Vick doesn't have to be a 65% passer to be successful. He just has to convert enough third downs (with his legs or his arm) to set the defense up for the big play. He's always capable of making it. Tonight he's made a couple, both set up TD's.

Some of Vick's sacks are him being cute, but many sacks come from the D-line being on top of him before he even gets his three step drop. They can zone block for rushing, but what helps more is so many d-lines spread out to contain Vick. Watch the St.Louis playoff game last year and you'll see what I mean.
Maybe the line will do a better job this year. On that throw to Jenkins he had more time than I remener him ever seeing last year. This will be their second year with Gibbs, so it may click with them.

Your scenario doesn't reflect what happened...he wasn't tip-toeing the sideline, he was headed out of bounds at a 45 degree angle. Contact didn't occur until he was out. The guy shouldn't have touched him or he chanced a penalty.

I watched almost every Falcon game last year and a majority of the sacks were related to Michael Vick being Michael Vick.
The Falcons led the league last year in preventing running backs getting stuffed at the line. Many of Vicks pass plays are designed on play action and roll outs. Those two things are also incredibly vulnerable to the blitz, especially the outside blitz from teams trying to "contain" Vick. When you factor in the fact that the Falcons haven't had (and still don't have) a true #1 wideout, they don't hesitate to send blitzers in on Vick.
I'm not saying the O-Line is similar to the Dallas Cowboy line of the mid 90's, but that line isn't poor by any stretch.

First, you are only talking about sacks. I'm talking about time to pass. Many, many, many times players came free almost untouched from their assigned blockers (you could watch Schaffer just throw his arms at them, or Forney fall trying to get up from the stance). It was not a very good blocking line in drop-back passing situations. That is the only thing I'm talking about (time in the pocket,. Rolling out is a different beast all together).
What we should be discussing is how Kearse bumblefucked away a td by not bein able to pick the damn thing up right away ;)

And I'm telling you that's just not true. Look at what's been happening tonight. Look at that last sack. Vick was out of the pocket and could have thrown the ball away. He chose not to and it ends up being a sack. And then on the following sack, it's an all out blitz, mainly from the outside. One that teams couldn't do if the Falcons actually had a WR out there.
I'm not just talking about sacks, it's difficult to block 7 when you are 5. Teams have more "all out" blitzes on the Falcons than any team I've ever seen. A big reason is the lack of a true #1, but another reason is because if you blitz to one side and Vick reads it, you are dead. Better to take your chances by going after both sides and hope. That's just not the lines fault.

No doubt he inflates the stat by holding the ball trying to run when he should throw it away (or even take a shot at his best option). But if you'll watch film from last year of just the pocket passing attempts, you'll see Vick wasn't getting any time, and that was often with 4 man rushes (most teams don't have the team speed to blitz Vick. It becomes counter-productive).

When Vick throws the ball, I can't pick it up on the screen half the time...maybe I need a wide screen HDTV.

I usually can't tell who he's throwing to, and I have a feeling the receivers feel the same way.

Nah, they all know they are decoy's for the "Dump to Crump" play they run every passing down.

Agreed. Enough of this Duckett and Vick garbage. A Dunn TD would likely wrap things up for me.

They mentioned Dunn was on the sidelines. Did he get hurt or just resting?

Just a quick update on my fantasy game if anyone cares... I've cut my 20 point defecit to just 1. I forgot to mention that my opponent has LJ Smith so that 1 point is the difference.
Westbrook is only 5 receiving yards from getting another point. However, a TD by Atlanta would cost me 2 points.

Alright. You have to double Owens, so you'd think Westbrook is going to be the best option.

McNabb has either the: ''I dont Give a F@CK look,'' and / or the '' I don't want to be here'' look. Damn he's thrown to Ownes at least 15 times now.

Dola: Seems both Qbs are forcing the balls. Looks like alot of high velocity passes out there.

I wish Atlanta would try an option offense. I think they could rush for 400 yards a game with Mexico and a decent tailback.
