When I first saw the TV spots it looked like another lame Nic Cage action film (who buys him as an action hero or romantic lead??!?), but from what I've read about it, it sounds excellent. Anyone going to see it tonight?

Not going to see it tonight but would like to check it out at some point.

I kind of remember the movie for Nic Cage was a prisoner on an airplane or something. I couldn't help but laugh at him when he tries to act like a bad ass.

Con Air. I kind of liked that movie, but more because of John Malkovich and John Cusack than Nic Cage.

cage is box office GOLD. the sooner you realize that, the easier your life is. i dont know if the streak is still active, but he had something like 10 straight movies open at #1. they ranged from romantic movies to action, the guy just picks winners.

a movie opening at # 1 doesn't really mean anything. that's more of a case of the quality of the other movies. more shitty movies means an average, decent film will open up big.

i liked Con Air cuz of Malcovich also.

I like Cage. He really picks winner movies, and I found all/most of his movies fun and entertaining.

It Could Happen To You, The Rock, Con Air, Face Off, National Treasure, City Of Angels

Very true. Didn't Blair Witch 2 open at #1?

Anyhow, I like most of his movies, but he seems to "overact". He seems to really act over the top so much that it doesn't seem as if he would be a real person. Pamela Anderson is at the other end of the spectrum.

National Treasure was probably the Nic Cage movie I've enjoyed most.

Adaptation is the best Nicolas Cage movie.

funny. adaptation was the one i hated the most. :)

but then again, i'm mostly a big-budget movie buff.

very keen observation. i use that term (overact) often when discussing the acting jobs of celebrities. Paul Giamati, of the movie "Sideways", is a classic "overactor" in my book. i really like Giamati's acting ability - he's in my top 5 favorite actors, but when i see him on screen he always acts on level 10, he's a little too intense. i've always said that about Nick Cage.

Where is that great rowing movie, The boy in blue? Or, something like that.

Also, sorry if this is completely wrong, but is this the biggest. most expensive Lions Gate Film ever. I just always think of them as some kind of independent Studio that turns out more DVDs on Netflix than has Big time Movie Premiers.

I don't think he overacted in that one...

Gone in 60 seconds, yes major overacting...

Adaptation was really good though.

Leaving Las Vegas was also good.
Matchstick men was decent.

Actually one of my favorite Nicolas Cage movies is from the 80's before he was famous and still had bad teeth. It's called Birdy based on the book by William Wharton. The book is better, though.

I don't know where the discussion is. The best Nic Cage movie ever was "Raising Arizona." 'Nough said.

his performance in "Windtalkers" was spotty...decent in spots...laughable in others.

Come on guys how about Nick in Peggy Sue Got Married. Possibly the most annoying voice i have ever heard.

Fixed.

Why they made him from the South, with that ridiculous accent, I have no idea. It served absolutely no purpose in the movie.

Because southern folk are more likely to need to go to a maximum security prison? :D

That honestly is good reasoning, just like most military movies are going to have many southern characters because so many southerners join the military.

A southern accent poorly done is really rough. If the actor can't pull off a good drawl, they are better off not trying.

I wish Snake Eyes's second half was as entertaining as the first half.

I don't think there's ever been a movie that I've wanted to see more just based on the preview than Snake Eyes.

Whoops.

i think the sheer number of different roles that people think he was best in is a testament to him as an actor.

and yes, just because a movie opens at #1 doesnt mean its good. it does, however, mean EVERYTHING to actors in the studios eyes, because that is what studios look at: who can open a movie.

Clearly the best movie he was in was Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Well, Nic failed this time. "Lord of War" opened in third.
