View Full Version : Your earliest surprise FOF retirement?

In the eNFL, Andre Johnson just retired after 7 years in the league. I had just paid him a huge signing bonus the previous year or so and he was signed for 4 more years. He had just completed a season that earned him at least mention among top offensive player of the year honors. Specifically, he had 106rec/1529yrds 13 TD's 3 Fumbles. No injuries, no reason to expect him to retire like this.
Granted, I haven't played many SP seasons with the current version of the game (about 40 at the most), but I've never seen a player in his prime retire this early for no reason. So as I try to decide what to do next with my team, anyone care to share surprise retirement stories?

I had a running back that just up and retired unexpected after 5 years in the league. He had just put up a pretty good season with 392 rushing attempts, 1372 yards and 9 TDs, definately didn't expect him to retire but he wanted to smoke dope.

on behalf of the rest of the eNFL owners, all we can say is........YES!!!!!!!!##%^*#
j/k
that really sucks. I've seen a RB go out in his prime after about 7 years, but WRs usually stick around forever.

Was the accelerated Cap hit devastating to your team? I had an older WR quit(WigFL Hines Ward), and the 6 million in money that accelerated to the cap was the straw that broke our camels back. I suppose you use an accelerating cap though.

The Eagles should have never got Andre Johnson in the first place!

It will definitely hurt our chances to be a true Super Bowl contender as I now have approximately 16 million in dead cap space and I have to franchsie McNabb this upcoming year. I will have to reshape my roster unless I can do some very creative accounting.

HOLY CRAP! **Frank Barone-style**
If you want to unload a pricey vet or two, my ears are open (and my cap space is enormous).

The Redskins of the eNFL absolutely hate that this would happen to a team in their division. It's just terrible. There's only one thing that could cause something this catastrophic....................George Bush hates the Eagles of the eNFL.

I just finished simming 10 seasons of SP just as a quick test, and not one receiver rated nearly as high as Johnson retired after 7 years. Oh well.

I remember someone once speculated that Jim may have coded retirements like this into the game to mimic off-field events like an offseason car wreck that left him unable to play.
At least, that's what I tell myself to make it seem more realistic.

I had a running back in FOF 2004 that retired after 10 years (Jim Brown type),
He had around 11000 yds and 66 tds, and just walked away.

Just another question. Yesterday in the talk about the NFL games Jim mentioned that it would not be a good idea for the 49ers to start their new rookie quarterback. He mentioned two reasons. 1) it would break his confidence to go up against a good defends 2) he comes from a small school and need more time to mature.
Is this working the same way in the game? Is confidence to a rookie quarterback a part of the game? Is their any upside/downside to keep a new quarterback on the bench for a few seasons? Will a quarterback from a big school get ready to player faster then a player from a small school in the game?

In Single Player mode, the earliest unexpected retirement I have seen was a great Tackle, who had been drafted #1 overall...and would retired without notice after just six years in the NFL...
Can't tell you in which shit it put its former team in...

My most memorable early retirement was a QB after 5 seasons. He was a success the second he stepped on the field, won a couple of all-pro honors and titles, then got injured really badly early in year 4. He went from a 80ish/80ish guy to something like 60/60. He had a very, very good year 5, and we lost the title game. At that point he retired.
I remember being surprised that the retirement came after a pretty much full recovery and a lot of team success.
actually, george bush just quit our league :)
that doesn't mean I don't hate the Eagles. :D

From past franchises, through observations I have seen that Wr's also retire quite early usually those that would have been GREAT receivers retre at their prime at around their 10th years.

I'd like to see his stats. He must have been a walking stiff after almost 30 years.
he didnt play much (or at all) after his 19th or 20th season

It goes to the eNFL forum by design.
