I use Quiksand's simple house rules for single player mode. I may propose trades that involve current draft picks only(i.e. no future picks or players).
I am running an empty cupboard dynasty and I have the #1 overall pick in the draft. Trading down to 1(4) and losing a 6th and 7th round draft pick nets 3 2nd round picks, 2 3rd round picks and a 4th round pick--all in the top of the 1st round.
Of course, allowing multiple trades creates abuse potential and I'll use a 1 trade/yr rule in my next dynasty, but even the trade from 1(1) to 1(2) nets 2(2), 3(2) and 4(2). That cannot be right--can it?

nah. no way. it has always seemed to me there's something a lil off in how FOF values trades in draft picks, which is weird, especially considering how the slotted-value of each draft pick is pretty widely available, or so i remember hearing. And there might be potential for that to vary a little, but for the most part I think if a team went around the NFL and offered the #1 overall pick they would receive ROUGHLY the same general package for it in terms of draft picks, and it wouldn't be that good.

Just use a no trade/per year rule, and you won't run into these problems. :)
Seriously though, don't do any kind of trades and allow yourself to sign only one FA at the start of Free agency each year. If you're smart, you will still win games in a few years. It's the ultimate way to do it, in my opinion, until the AI in FOF gets better.

NFL Draft Value Chart (http://www.theredzone.org/2005/draft/draftvaluechart.asp)
1(1) is worth 3000 points.
1(2), 2(2), 3(2) and 4(2) are worth 3528 points.
That difference is equivalent to the 2(5) pick.
A fair trade according to the value chart would be 1(1) for 1(2), 3(2), 4(2) and 5(2).
New House Rule: No trades.
My next hurdle is figuring out how to eliminate my abuse of the late free agency period--way too many solid players are available for peanuts in week 8 even with strict house rules for contract negotiations.
