View Full Version : Battrick -- who's with me?

I know battrick has been mentioned once here, but it was buried in a thread about real cricket. Anyway, battrick is hattrick for cricket. I just got a team. I've played cricket for the first time a couple months ago, and didn't really know what I was doing. I started out chasing the ball around my area, which inluded a huge tree that I had to run around, for what seemed like hours. Then I was the last one to bat, and the outcome was no longer in doubt. I think they took it easy on me and pitched me a couple slow ones that bounced to me perfectly and I hit for 6. Then the third pitch was at waist level or so with no bounce, which confused me, so I didn't swing at it, and it slowly hit the folding chair, I mean, wicket.
So that's all I know, about cricket, or battrick. I just thought it would be fun to learn about cricket while playing online. Anyone want to get started and be a newbie with me? Or anyone else already playing that can help us out? By the way, if anyone joins and wants to be in the same country as me, I'm in India (you can't choose the USA).

Perhaps a link would help.

Battrick is like hattrick (an online soccer text sim), but with cricket instead of soccer.

I just signed up. I tried hattrick and couldn't keep up with it really in terms of time and all. But cricket has always been interesting, so we'll see.

I've been waiting for this to come out for a while. Thanks for giving us the notice. I've got my signup information in. Too bad there is no region close to home for me.

Norse AC in the Windies. Came in third in III.15 in season 1 (with an undefeated run over the last seven games, beating every team in the series in that period), and I just smashed a bot in round 1 of the cup.

Dola, Brian, the Windies are probably the closest. I believe that's essentially the Caribbean.

Boy am I dumb. I saw the waiting lists for each region and thought I was looking at the number of teams in the region. I picked Australia which had the highest number. I've just sent in a request asking to be shifted to the West Indies. Maybe that will help me get a team a little faster. How long has this site been active?

India, the Lancre Wowhawks. I'm the only real team in my division, so should get promoted this year hopefully.

Battrick opened for business on April 24, with matches starting on May 2. However, there were immediate performance issues with the matches (part of the problem being that Allan was using Access as the backend at the time  ), and the game was frozen from around May 6 until June 9, at which point it re-opened. There have been relatively few hiccups since.

bump...
Got my first loss. I guess now I need to figure out how to set my lineup better. Anyone have any tips for hitting the transfer market?

Ooh - I'm tempted. How much daily maintenance does it need.

Currently, we have finance updates and youth pulls on Saturday, the national one-day cup and one-day friendlies on Sunday, training on Monday, and one-day league on Friday. You could skip doing the youth pull on Saturday if you'd prefer, and instead do it at the same time as you check in on your match on Sunday, or after the training update on Monday. Sometime after training, you'll want to set your lineup for your matches. And you'll need to spend enough time to locate a friendly once you're out of the cup.
It's similar to Hattrick right now, although it may allow for more input once the first-class leagues start.

Here's an introductory site to cricket that I rather like, because it does a nice job of comparing and contrasting with baseball.

Okay, I finally got around to hiring some coaches. I took my 2 best young players, and got them some fielding coaches. But I'm wondering -- do I want to emphasize my strengths, like in hattrick, or do I want to train in something the player is weaker in, to make him more well-rounded?

I guess it depends... without at least a few well-rounded players, you'll be toast any time your top order goes quicker than usual. And you'll probably want to work on fielding for just about any player. I've only got a couple of guys who are so specialized as to be completely hopeless at the bat, and I actually switched to a slightly less-skilled wicket-keeper to have a more reliable bat in the lineup.
