Got a new job! WOOHOO!!!

So now I get to put my 2 weeks notice into my current job, something I've never done before. Should be interesting... my current boss (the owner) is NOT going to be happy, someone else just put her 2 weeks in yesterday and I'll be like the 5th or 6th full timer to leave in the last month or so.

Now I just worry about 2 weeks of hell doing really stupid shit...

Whatever you do, don't burn bridges.

I would tell him that you received an opportunity someplace else that is a significant step up from your current position in pay and responsibility. Who knows he may counter. Just don't do what I did and make it too pie in the sky.

I won't burn bridges intentionally. The owner, however, has been known to fly off the handle from time to time tho. That's the big reason I haven't said a peep about looking for another job to anyone and why I always checked "no" on the "can we contact your current employer".

He can counter with whatever he wants, I still don't want to work 50+ hours a week where all I do is eat, sleep and work :)

I had exactly the same situation just over a month ago at my place of work. I've moved back home to be closer to my family, and I think my boss understood that so I was lucky.

I think the department had 6 experienced members of staff hand their notice in that week (which is a huge deal as they have expanded threefold and are desperate to hang onto the experienced people they have) Luckily I think I got mine in second, I would not have liked to be the sixth person to walk up with the letter...

Giving your 2 weeks notice is nerve wracking for sure. Hell I've done it more times than I can remember and it's always awkward. Tell them you couldn't decline an opportunity that'll give you and your family a better lifestyle and benefits. They'll appreciate the 2 week notice I'm sure.

You coulda just walked in and said, "Adios fuckers, til NEVER"! :D

When I turned in my two weeks, I thought I had done everything right. Didn't say a word about the fact that I was looking (EVERYONE advised me not to), and I actually gave them almost 3 weeks. None of the suits say anything to me about it, until one day, a couple of days before my last day, the CTO comes up to me and says, "Well Chris, we'll really miss you around here, but tell me something...how can we help you stay if you don't tell anyone you are thinking about leaving?"

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If he made it a better job, he wouldn't have to worry about people leaving. Unless he rescued you from the dumps or something, fuck him.

Same thing happened to me. I gave over a months notice, but my boss told his bosses that I only gave a week (he lagged in looking for my replacement because he was a lazy fuck).

I went to a competing company, and during a social function his bosses asked me why I only gave a week. I said, what, I gave like 6 weeks. They looked at me like I was an alien that couldn't tell the truth. It was nice to politely telling them that their company was a sack of rat shit. Losers.
