The suspension could be announced this week unless Rogers appeals, the sources said.
Under the policy, Rogers' suspension means he has had at least three positive tests of an illegal street drug. A fourth positive test will result in a minimum one-year suspension. Rogers was unavailable for comment, as was his agent.
Rogers was the Lions' first-round choice in 2003, the No. 2 overall player chosen in the NFL draft. That year, ESPN reported that Rogers was flagged by the NFL's medical advisor when he provided a diluted urine sample at the NFL Scouting Combine before the draft. The result placed Rogers in the substance abuse program, which made him subject to random testing.

Guess those injuries caused him to turn to drugs.

Everyone to the Waiver Wire or FA Pool to add Mike Williams! ;)
I don't even have a fantasy team this season. Is Mike Williams already taken in most leagues?

I didn't even know about this myself.

LOL. Regardless, you still have Joey Harrington throwing to him. Heh heh.

And the shit storm keeps a blowin'. Well, it's not like Charles Rogers, the SECOND PICK OVER ALL in 2003, was a big part of the offense anyways. He catches like one pass a game. This might be good, get Big Mike Williams into the game more. I dunno. The Lions offense is just abysmal. Abysmal.

Well, the one good thing is that while I was waiting for this thread to open I was thinking "Please make it be Charles Rogers and not Shaun Rogers, please!" So, I guess it could be worse.

I did the exact same thing....

Can we cut him as the WR version of Ryan Leaf?

Losing our 4th best WR is not a problem.
Hell, 5th. Pollard is a TE but he's better then Rogers.
Rogers doesn't try, runs shitty routes and drops catches.
Good riddance

But what if he's wearing the black jersey?

So, does this development affect which WR they take in the first round this year?

They mention he was flagged before the draft for the diluted sample. Perhaps the possibility of losing Rogers became evident at that time and this helps explain why the Lions took another receiver in the first round.

Next draft we better draft Oline or else it won't matter who our QB is.

For the fun of it, here's the original thread about Rogers' masking troubles (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?t=7774&highlight=rogers) from 2 1/2 years ago.

Interesting read. I didn't remember the agent saying he had trouble urinating. I do remember Rogers saying that he was told to drink a TON of water the night before. If that's the case, I can't see why he would have had trouble urinating. Obviously something was fishy there.
Makes you wonder how much the Lions really even wanted Rogers, and how much they might have buckled under public opinion.

I REALLY wish they would have drafted Johnson that year (and I've been saying that since that day). I think were it not for the whole MSU P.R. benefit, they would have gone in that direction.

Inference on the talk radio circuit is that Rogers likes his Mary Jane.

I heard the Lions are already taking a long look at Steve Breaston of Michigan as a replacement for Rogers.

If they are, then they're definitely dumber than posts. Local sports talk has been quite down on Breaston, mainly because he has not lived up to any billing since his freshman year. To be fair, they do blame themselves somewhat for perhaps putting too much hype and pressure on him, but they still think he's doing poorly right now, which is true. He's dropped some balls at bad times this year. Then again, the entire offense was struggling without Mike Hart in the lineup (or Braylon Edwards, who graduated to the NFL).
The Lions will likely be drafting fairly high again this year and there should be better options than Breaston on the board (use a late-rounder on him at this poin). Then again, it's the Lions and I think people will go postal if they draft yet another WR.

The Lions will not draft Steve Breaston in the first round. Write it down.

If Breaston goes in the 1st round at all, I'll be horrified.

This is the Lions we're talking about. Nothing is 100% facetious. Nothing.
