So I bought this USB Data Cable so I could transfer photos from my cell phone to my computer. The installation went fine but now I have no clue what to do. The USB Data Cable is set to COM5 by the driver software. Is there a way to access this COM5 thing?

I dont understand why a COM port would have anything to do with a USB port? When you plug the data cable into your cell phone, you should get a "New Device" popup from Windows and then your cell phone should show up in explorer as another drive. From there you should be able to access your cell phones memory card just like any other disk... i.e drag the phots off of there and onto your desktop.

What kind of cell phone are we talking about here?
I know with my Razr, there's a software suite that I needed to get aside from the USB cable alone to interact with my cell phone (transfer pictures, music, video, etc...). With my old Nokia phone, I had to download the software to interact with it from their website, as my connection back then was via infrared.

I wander if I bought the wrong cable or something.
The Driver disk that came with the cable supposedly turns the USB port to a COM5 port or something, I'm not certain.
Damn thing isn't working though.
With my SonyEricsson phone, I have to go into the phone software that has been loaded into the system tray and edit the preferences. In there somewhere is a list of COM ports on the system, and I had to activate the COM5 port in the software to make it work... could be something similar here.
