Hilarious.

And yet a little disturbing - are there adults out there so paranoid and so out of touch that they assume any kind of slang a kid throws out there is in reference to drugs?

I about fell out of my seat reading that one. Nice find, HA.

Lick a camel toad and all will become clear.

'es' probably became 'ad.' Something tells me this was probably a joke that got through, since Leslie was clueless and probably thought other 40/50-somethings needed the educational lesson to stay on the cutting edge of teenager slang. I mean, how does the clueless godmother know it was ice tea that was spilled on the paper? That struck me as odd.

not to mention the dropping of the term "licking them". clearly a hoax.

Man that's classic, smoking toads... Great find....

this is actually funnier if it was a prankster who sent this in. this gives me inspiration to send in a letter saying "my son wants to give his female friend a golden tower - what the heck is that? that sounds expensive, i hope he isn't into selling drugs."

in her defense, you lick tabs of LSD. though, how would she know that and not know he was referring to camel toes? so yeah...prank. a funny one at that.

Well, one does lick toads.

This could be a hoax, but I have several aunts who are . . . old fashioned enough to have written this letter in complete seriousness.

Either way, it was good for today's laugh.

How about this:

I overheard my son talking about giving his high school girlfriend a "golden tower," and now I'm afraid he may be getting himself in too deep at his age by getting engaged before he's even graduated from high school. Plus, a golden tower sure sounds expensive. Before I confront him about his possible marriage plans, can you please help me figure out what kind of engagement gift a golden tower is? I've searched various marriage sites, but have had no luck so far.

I think it's fake. I agree that the iced tea seems like the kind of embellishment that whoever was writing this letter found to be a hilarious touch.

Am I the only one who thinks the entire thing is fake? I mean right down to the fact it was printed in a newspaper?

Ksyrup

How about this?

"Far too often in our society we older folks look askance at the younger generations, particularly the music they listen to. It's always far too loud and vulgar. So when we come across youth with an appreciation for the music we grew up with, I believe it should be noted. Which is why I'm proud to say that just last week, I overheard my grandson and his friends discussing 'scat.' Imagine my surprise - I didn't even know he knew what jazz was! I've never heard of any of the scat performers they were discussing, but I figure that if he's open-minded enough to enjoy something from my youth, I should encourage it and share a momentary connection with him - "bridging the generations," if you will. And I really want to surprise him with my appreciation for scat, so I was hoping you could ask your readers who are far more knowledgeable about new scat performers if they could give me a recommendation?"

Good job Ksyrup, that actually might get past more than a few editors out there.

Ksyrup's posts sparked a little curiosity on my part, so I'll ask since this thread is almost certain to draw people who will have pretty definitive answers ;)

I know that both of the terms he mentioned have been around for years, I believe their use predates the internet , but is cameltoe like MILF? i.e. terms that I believe owe the 'net for their entrance into "mainstream slang" (if there's such a thing).

I knew MILF had made it when one of my clients knew the meaning without explanation (FTR we weren't talking about web porn exactly, it was a conversation questionable content on radio).

MILF was a term in American Pie, I'm pretty sure that's where it originates from.

I remember hearing the term cameltoe back in '94 or so, so it's from before the internet got huge...

I have this strange, almost sick, feeling that it probably is ... but I've never heard it
(although a quick google proves that you can find almost anything reference on somebody's blog somewhere)

7. I heard the hot mom check in. Star 94 has a night dj "Nudge" that does a segment called "the hot mom check in". Normally I never listen to Star 94, but after hearing about the hot mom check in from many people I braved the pop world and listened to Star 94 from 7 to 8 last night. Here's how is goes:

Nudge: Hey! All single hot moms call in
(song plays)
Nudge: Hey whats your name?
Hot mom: Sally ruth
Nudge: Sally ruth, How many kids do you have?
Hot mom: 4
Nudge: WOW! I'll bet you really dont get the recgonition you deserve.
Hot mom: nope.
Nudge: OK Sally. Are you ready to be inducted into the Nudge at Night Hot Mom club?
Hot mom: ok.
Nudge: Alright Sally Ruth, Repeat after me.....
"Hot mom check in-what what
Hot mom checki in-smoooooth and sexy
Hot mom check in"
Hot mom:
Hot mom check in - WHAT WHat
Hot mom check in- smoooooooth and sexxxyy
Hot mom check in

Only because it's my job to know kinda who does what did I even get the original reference to Star 94. I'm just so uncool I guess, most of my fairly little nightime radio listening is to AM stations like WLAC, WLW, WWL, WSM, etc. with some Q106 (mostly classic rocker in Macon) thrown in.

edit to add: for those not in Atlanta, one of the reason's the bit we're talking about is kinda funny is that Star94 is our CHR/Pop station, pretty much hits the younger end of the soccer mom demo. They are not neccessarily people you picture calling themselves "smooth & sexy" off hand.

I was familiar with both MILF and cameltoe back in high school, and I graduated in 1990.

Yeah, but Jon said he thought the phrase became popular because of the 'net...

That seems likely to me. Also, I knew MILF as MILToF (pronounced Milt-off). But I knew what they meant in American Pie right away.
