LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again.
Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.
The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well.
He said Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl.
Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.
"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said.
The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family of 18 next May.
The Learning Channel is doing another show about the family's construction project, a 7,000-square foot house that should be finished before Christmas. The home, which the family has been building for two years, will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.
Jim Bob Duggar, who sells real estate, previously lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. He said he expects to run for the state Senate next year but isn't ready to make a formal announcement.
Michelle Duggar had her first child at age 21, four years after the couple married.
Their children include two sets of twins, and each child has a name beginning with the letter "J": Joshua, 17; John David, 15; Janna, 15; Jill, 14; Jessa, 12; Jinger, 11; Joseph, 10; Josiah, 9; Joy-Anna, 8; Jeremiah, 6; Jedidiah, 6; Jason, 5; James, 4; Justin, 2; and Jackson Levi, 1.
God bless them! Any more J names?!

Hmmm, she was 17 when they got married, eh?
Geez, at 17 I was worried about trigonometry and in a serious relationship with my pillow.

I actuallysaw the special on TLC (I think that was the channel) about a year ago. The family is kind of weird...their children are all home schooled, and the father is the founder/preacher is this church that includes their family and one, maybe two other families that also have 10+ children. The oldest son said that he would only marry a woman who had grown up in a family like his and wanted to have 10+ kids. He is planning on going to college, but says he will not be "tempted" by the "evils of the world".
I have no problem with alternate religious beliefs and ways of life, however, I do think the parents are doing the kids a disservice by sheltering them to the point that when they enter the "real world" (college or a job), they will have no idea how to cope with everyday life. They don't know about people being manipulative, liars, etc...they will be so gullible and naive that people will walk all over them.
I think the ideals they teach are wonderful, but the reality is that those ideals aren't practiced by the rest of society (unfortunately) and that those kids are going to be helpless unless they spend the rest of their life living on a compound with their parents, marrying people from another family like them and having more kids.

I think this Groucho Marx exchange applies in this instance (from You Bet Your Life)
Groucho: So, you got any kids?
Female Contestant: Yes, Groucho, I have eleven children.
Groucho: Eleven?! Did you say eleven kids?
Female Contestant: Well, I love my husband.
Groucho: Lady, I love my cigar but I take it out of my mouth once in a while.

We need to slap the man who watch Oprah around here...:D
On the other hand, if they can afford, thats great. He must be making big bucks to support a 7,000 sq house with those specs, and 16 kids, and the Viagara.

The "evils of the world"? Oldest son wants to marry in the family? Many large families in the Church? This isn't that cult in Colorado or Utah (I can't remember which state)?

Hehehe. Wonder if they ever show these on GSN (or if most were just filmed over, as many classic shows were).

My grandparents had 20 children *shrug* So doesn't seem that big a deal to me.
Of course, I can't imagine having any children, so I have no comprehension of what would possess a person to have so many.

At some point you have to wonder if it is possible to bond with that many kids, much less spend any quality time. I have four and my wife stays home and we still don't feel like there are enough hours in the day.

Arkansas couple welcome their 17th child
Story Highlights
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggars are proud parents of 17 children.
Youngest, Jennifer Danielle, was born Thursday
Mother Michelle Duggar has been pregnant for 10.5 years
She says family would love to have more children
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AP) -- It's a girl -- again -- for Jim Bob and Michelle Duggars, the proud parents of 17 children.
And after Jennifer Danielle was born Thursday morning, her parents already were talking about having more children.
"We'd love to have more," Michelle Duggar said, adding that the girls are outnumbered seven to 10 in the family. "We love the ruffles and lace."
The family's home in the northwest Arkansas town of Tontitown includes dormitory-style bedrooms for the boys and girls, nine bathrooms, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.
The children are home-schooled by Michelle Duggar, 40. The oldest is 19 and the youngest, before Jennifer, is almost 2 years old. The family includes two sets of twins.
"We are just so grateful to God for another gift from him," said Jim Bob Duggar, 42, a former state representative who sells real estate. "We are just so thankful to him that everything went just very well."
All of Jennifer's siblings also have names that start with J. They are: Joshua, 19; John David, 17; Janna, 17; Jill, 16; Jessa, 14; Jinger, 13; Joseph, 12; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 9; Jedidiah, 8; Jeremiah, 8; Jason 7; James 6; Justin, 4; Jackson, 3; Johannah, almost 2.
The Duggars have been featured on several programs on cable's Discovery Health Network.
Among the "fun facts" listed on Discovery Health's Web page devoted to the Duggars: A baby has been born in every month except June; the family has gone through about 90,000 diapers, and Michelle Duggar has been pregnant for 126 months -- or 10.5 years -- of her life.
