This show is like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm were in their primes. The bigot test on the train was great and the soup incident at the end of the dinner with the annoying guy is the funniest thing I have seen in a television show in like 5 years. Anyone else watching this show? I admit I never really got into the Office, but if the lead character (I don't even know his name)was half as good as this show I may have to watch old episodes.

Heh, Ricky Gervais was definitely as good (better) in The Office than in Extras, but very different character.

I hear they're playing them out of order on HBO, which kinda sucks but not a huge deal with this show.

One of the hardest times I've ever laughed is during that soup episode you mentioned, where they stop by the graveyard to see his Mom's grave, that was classic.

I can confirm that they are out of order in the US. The show is quite funny, and really has its moments. I've found every episode even funnier on repeated viewings as well.

What would be the purpose of showing them out of order?

On a side note Curb Your Enthusiam has really dropped off this season. The end of the kamakazee wheelchair epiosde is the only thing I have really laughed at. They are trying too hard with the Larry staring people in the eye bits and Larry actually coming out on top. (the last epiosde at least had him get beat by the man in the wheelchair) I liked when he was the underdog and would only get a victory like once a season. (like the concert on the Jewish guy's lawn) Hopefully they have the problem corrected in future episodes.

They've front-loaded the guest stars that are recognizable to the American audience.

I thought the scene where he went on a 'date' to church in the first US episode was hilarious. Each episode seems to have a couple really funny, laugh out loud moments, but the Office had many more funny moments per episode. They're definately not afraid to push right past the limits of political correctness....

"Alot of you guys might be thinking: why am I making the movie? Sure, you look at me as one of the world's most successful comedy actorss, what does that mean? I mean, yeh, I make Along Came Polly it opens to 32 million dollars one of the biggest Martin Luther King Junior Birthday holiday opening weekends ever, goes on to gross 170 million worldwide, Meet the Parents--double that. But, what does the money, and the success mean in real terms? If I find a little orphan child in a war zone, his parents murdered, persecuted for his race, his religion--what am I gonna do? Pop on Dodgeball on DVD?"

"Is funny film."

"Thanks, and I can put on Dodgeball and he's gonna laugh for an hour and thirty-two minutes--you know, escape reality for a while--but what happens when the film finished? Back to reality--still an orphan. Still living with fear. How do I help him? Huh? Put on Dodgeball again?

Sure, he's gonna laugh again. He'll see things he didn't see the first time--it's layered, it was made like that--but, this can't go on indefinately. At a certain point, after the fifth, sixth, seventh viewing he's... still laughing, but it's not getting to the root of the problem, ok? How do I help him?"

Gotta love Ben Stiller - even if Along came Polly was crap.

Someone needs to greenlight Patrick Stewart's ideas. :D

"Errrr no."
"Good lord."

I've seen all the episodes a few times, and I think the Patrick Stewart one is definitely the best. It's so hilariously out of character for him that it's amazing.

Well, I did like the sharting incident. That part was at least funny.

You have to love an actor that's willing to make fun of himself that way. Very funny stuff.

Are you having a laugh?
Is he having a laugh?
He's having a laugh!

I love this show. The sad part is the catchphrase is totally mocked in the show, but I started using it as a joke and laugh whenever I say it. (Just like the sheep that watch "Where the wind blows")

the 2nd season is lightyears better than the first so far

I missed the beginning of the Harry Potter episode, but I've seen all the others. Amazingly funny. The agent is hilarious. When the "Is he having laugh?" doll started malfunctioning at the awards show I absolutely lost it. The racism test and the graveyard, as mentioned, are genius.

I also like the scene with the beggar:

"20 quid there..that should cover me for a few go's"

Definately agree with that. They've just been utterly hilarious, especially with the sitcom. But at the same time they say something about show business. Andy having to give up his idea to do something important for a cheap sitcom in order to pay the bills.

Love this show. It is on my DVR recording list. The interaction between Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant just kills me.

I agree with that, season 1 was good with some high points but the second season is much more consistent. I've seen Ricky Gervais criticised for "selling out" with the second season, making more of a traditional sitcom than his previous stuff, but I think that's a pretty predictable backlash against him. People seem to either love him or hate him.

I've seen the complete second series from British tv, I'm not sure if HBO show them in the same order, but the upcoming episodes with Ian McKellan and the final episode are well worth waiting for.

I love the Orlando Bloom/Johnny Depp rivalry.
