Man, if the pitching holds true to form, this could be one of the lowest scoring Series ever.

I think Houston holds a edge from playing tonight and Chicago being done last Sunday, if they can split in Chicago, they bring the series back to their stadium and a chance to put themselves in the same spot they were in against the Cards.

I'm rooting for the Astros for two reasons. One, because I'm a Cubs fan and hate the White Sox. :) And two, because I think Biggio and Bagwell are two of the good guys in baseball and deserve a title.

Keep in mind their opposition. I can't tell you how hard it is to look some people in the eye when I try to explain why I am excited the White Sox are going to the World Series. I just want some championship love in this great city of ours :)

Looks like only this week. The following week Buffalo at NE is the scheduled Sunday night game.

Nobody out here in Wyoming understands my love for the White Sox. When I celebrated after they clinched the pennant, my asshole floormates all looked at me like I was psycho and they didn't give a shit.
Fucking assholes.

I'm watching this one, every game. Don't really care who wins as I like the White Sox and honestly, I would like Biggio and Bagwell to get a ring.

Random thoughts about the World Series:
- My family was rooting for Sox-Cardinals because my wife was born in St Louis, but Sox-Astros should be an incredibly tense series.
- As the playoffs played out, I thought the Sox actually matched up better with the Cardinals, especially with their injury problems. Oh, well.
- The Astros scare me because like the Angels, they're the same team as the Sox (good pitching, eh hitting), but unlike the Angels with no Colon, the Astros' Big 3 + Backe is better than the Sox' Big 4.
- Saturday. Game 1. Chicago. Sox vs Clemens. Awesome. Can't wait. :)

The Chicago papers are calling Cubs fans that root for the White Sox Bi-Sox-uals. :D
I understand the sentiment, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Maybe if I lived in Chicago, I would feel differently though. My loyalty is more to the Cubs than to the city so the Astros are kind of the lesser of two evils. Other than Oswalt and Clemens, I like the majority of their players.

Wow! I never knew it, but I'm Bi-Sox-ual.
To be honest I'm not a big baseball fan. Before the Sox made the playoffs the last baseball game I watched was Florida eliminating the Cubs two years ago. I rooted for the Cubs when they made the playoffs and I'll root for the Sox in the Series.
GO SOX!

One nice thing about the Sox playing the Astros is that I know no one who roots for Houston, so this won't happen to me if the Sox lose.
Another nice thing is that outside of Clemens (whose ability I am in awe of, but whose personality I find as endearing as a sports hernia), I'm having a hard time finding anything to hate about the Astros. I always prefer to have my team play a team I respect, so if my team loses (and it's the Sox, so normally they do indeed lose), I won't be physically ill if they do. This is why I ended up being very happy it was Sox-Angels and not Sox-Yankees in the ALCS.
All in all, I have no idea who's going to win the Series, but every game is going to be incredibly tense and down to the wire, I think.

Jeebs, you've got 2 options as I see it:
-Mini tv ("Do you see any reason why these two should not be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace" *home run* "Yes! Yes! Yes!" *shock and gasps* "Oops, my bad. Keep going, preach")
-Come up with some sort of excuse. This is a once-in-a-lifetime shot for the Astros as they haven't made it to the World Series ever. But if the marriage doesn't work out, there could be 2 or 3 more that you go to ;)

What possible reason is there to not like Oswalt? I honestly don't know. I recall there was an incident with the Cubs, but IIRC, Oswalt hit a guy in the calf, Wood came back and broke our shortstop's wrist in the next inning, and then 4 innings later Oswalt his another Cub. The only thing Oswalt did wrong in that situation was he didn't plunk Wood in the head.
As for Clemens, I'm a Longhorn Astros fan and I can't say I care for the guy as a human being.

This series looks really good on paper. Sure, the Astros have 3 really awesome pitchers but they still really have only two hitters. The White Sox have that "share the wealth" type offense where Konerko and Dye had big numbers but then there's like the 5 or 6 guys who had between 15 and 25 homers so there's power throughout. They aren't exactly the getting-on-base types, tho, and against good pitching, that can be a big problem. On the other side of the ball, tho, the White Sox pitching is returning to the form it had most of the season so they'll never be out of a game. Should be a close and well played series throughout. Hopefully some really exciting pitching duels.

I spent a lot of time at MMP last season, and I can say without question that Oswalt is the biggest jerk on the team. That's not a tremendous accomplishment considering the rest of the team is pretty likable, but Oswalt is just not a real nice guy.

I, of course, don't know him personally. But with other athletes that I don't care for, it's often about demeanor. I have no problem with a pitcher protecting his players and retaliating when one of his is plunked. And although I don't remember the exact incidents with Oswalt's throwing at Cubs hitters, I remember him doing so in a way that wasn't simply protecting his own and then was very arrogant and condescending when questioned about it. His demeanor most definitely rubs me the wrong way.

SI, you said you were an Astro fan! No way can you say the Astros only have 2 hitters. MAybe tthrough out the season, but during the post season everybody has produced. Garner himself said Ausmus was his best hitter in the Braves series and didn't Biggio hit 3 doubles in one game? In yesterday's game every starter but Lance got a hit, so I would say right about now the Astros have a whole line up of hitters.

I dont know why Clemens is so unliked around here, other than the Piazza thing a couple of years ago. He does SO many great things around Houston, he has been on TLC numerous times building houses for homeless people and redoing rooms for kids with cancer. He has a couple of charities he has started to help people who need him. In every interview in the post season he has been humble and tried to put the spot light on other Astros. He has been nothing but admirable during his tenure as a Stro, and I personally adore him.

Next week will be the first World Series game on Texas soil. Hope the Astros do the state proud!
This could be a banner year for sports in Texas! Here's the outlook:
MLB - Astros in World Series
NBA - San Antonio won the championship
NFL - Cowboys are looking like a potential playoff team
NHL - It's too early to tell what the hell is going to happen in hockey
Coll. Baseball - Longhorns won the CWS
Coll. Football - Longhorns currently #2 in BCS
Coll. Basketball - Longhorns preseason #2 in many polls

I'm not really sure what you mean by "hardball," but this notion that the White Sox are a "small ball" team simply because they have a lead-off man who steals a lot of bases and they sacrifice more often than most AL teams, doesn't mean they are necessarily a small ball team. They hit 200 HRs this year, far more than the Astros. In fact, their ability to play both ways is a huge part of why they were so successful this year.
JeeberD
10-21-2005, 05:19 PM
Plus, the Astros have been playing small ball all postseason long. Get a hit, steal a base, bunt the guy to third, sac him in. That's probably how we've scored the majority or our runs...
