Brianna's "New American Dressing". Oh so expensive (like $4.95), but oh so freaking good.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinager.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinager. That is the standard salad dress in Spain, as we are with Italy and Greece one of the best Olive Oil produccers and consumers, the named Mediterranean diet.
Nothing beats an extra virgin...olive oil :)
I like also the blue cheese dress for the Caesar salad.

For a long time I was doing the oil and vinegar deal because it was healthy. Before that, I would have said thousand island. Nowadays if I don't get o&v, it will be bleu cheese.

I usually go with either honey mustard or thousand island, depending upon which sounds better to me at the moment. Those or O&V are pretty much the only ones I can stand the taste of.
Best I've ever had, but not likely to find in a bottle, are a couple of restaurants that had a hot bacon kinda thing.

Balsamic vinegar and EVOO with some garlic minced in.
Also, my mom makes some really good dressing which we traditionally put on our spinach salad. The salad itself is spinach, red onion, and mandarin oranges (plus whatever, sometimes chicken). The dressing is something along the lines of orange olive oil (olive oil prepared with orange zest, I think, would need to go look at my 'mom's recipes cookbook' to be certain) and some sort of vinegar. It ends up being slightly sweet and kind of orange-y, which compliments the mandarin oranges and spinach quite nicely.

A seriously chunky blue cheese dressing is best in my book. I don't have a particular bottled brand in mind, but there are a few that are pretty solid.

I know I sound like a shill, but Brianna's Blue Cheese is amazing. It's my second favorite to their New American Dressing.

Marie's is usally my favorite, but I'm not picky.
I'm a little odd with salad dressings - lately I've been using 2 or 3 on my salad. start with a nice blue cheese, then go with a catalina, and recently a nice vidalia ranch that I found to top things off.

I always feel a bit less manly when I do it in front of people, but I enjoy just lemon squirts (okay, also known as juice) and pepper.

Marie's Creamy Italian is what I've been using as a "dip" for as long as I can remember. I love that stuff!

Personally, no way in hell this thread goes 20 deep without this type of sentiment.
Boiling water, adding milk and powdered cheese. Come on, thats pretty basic.
If ya gotta nuke mac-n-cheese, the forum isnt expecting salad expertise.
Back to the subject, Id go contrarian and recommend the worst salad dressing for you health-wise. Hot bacon / honey mustard. *thats one dressing

No, I'm not kidding. We have a Barbeque Chicken Salad (salad, grilled chicken breast, barbeque sauce) at Gameworks that's oddly popular with guests. I never quite understood it. I think a lot of it has to do with the barbeque sauce, which is quite popular.

I love really chunky blue cheese dressing, but most bottled versions aren't chunky enough for me. I usually end up adding chunks of blue cheese to bottled dressing. Do you have any that you've found super chunky?
Catalina or Russian.
Also, the lettuce of the salad CAN'T be iceburg. Way too watery. Prefer mixed greens or baby spinach.

Western dressing if I can ever find it. Failing that, in a restaurant, it's French or Italian (I've been known to mix both at times). Another good alternative is Tangy Tomato 'n Bacon. (Yes, I'm quite partial to red dressings....)

No, I'm not kidding.
This and tk's mention of oranges also remind me of some salads I'll get while I'm out; the pulled pork salad at Famous Dave's (they use some sort of bbq-ey dressing), and the Santa Fe and Oriental Chicken salads at Applebees (I will often get the former, my wife the latter, which is also pretty good).

Usually at least once a week, I go to the local supermarket for lunch, and make my own salad ... lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers, croutons, and a whole lot of grilled chicken. Then I go back to my office and pour on the BBQ sauce I keep in the fridge. :)

In a bottle I really like Wish Bone Italian. Even the little packets where you make your own.
My favorite all over is chunks or shavings of dry blue or gorgonzola along with a vinaigrette. The classic wet/dry blue.
