She is some anime character. My fiancee hosts a yearly anime convention. I was working the convention, and I put it on for everyone to see.

What did you build it out of? And I assume you're looking through the mouth?

More importantly... can you drink in it?!?!

I built it out of cardboard, posterboard, paper mache, and two kinds of fabric. The shoes are actually a pair of sandals that the cardboard is glued around. I am wearing a pair of sweats that have been altered to fit tighter. I used some mesh fabric for the mouth. I can see out of it, but not all that well. I used a stretchy fabric for the leg coverings, and the hand pieces.

I am unable to drink out of it without removing one arm into the costume.

That brings up another point though. I am planning on buying 1 or 2 of the battery powered fans. Wearing the sweats in that thing is tough. I also need to wear a headband to keep the sweat from dripping down in my eyes, since it is hard to wipe them.

Construction was pretty easy actually, just time consuming. Initially I took 8 pieces of thin wood, 1"x1/2" and some round carboard for form a frame for the bottom part of the body. \_/ <- like this Then over that frame I attached cheap posterboard. After that was done, I cut out carboard and hot glued it onto the posterboard. Then I added another layer of posterboard over the carboard. After that was done, I paper mache'd the whole thing. The only reason I did this was to make it stronger, and try to make it a bit smoother. But the surface is by no means perfect. You can see the imperfections up close, but with the materials I had, it was the best I could do. I built the head the same way, using the same type of frame. I just guestimated the eyepiece and stuff, and the only real mistake is that the eyes are not quite level, but I didnt notice it until I had already attached it to the head. My antenna is cut of in the picture, but I used a wooden toy wheel, a dowel, and a wooden ball. I will most likely cut the dowel further down, as I have to bend over in order to walk through doors, and low ceilings.

I cost me 60 bucks at most to make. All the cardboard was free. The wood for the frame was the biggest expense at 20 bucks, and If I had to do it again, I would probably just build the frame out of cardboard.

I have to be honest though, some people really make some nice looking costumes. I have seen several awesome robot costumes, that would rival anything you might see in a movie. Let me see if I can find a few for you.

Yes, he can. Quite amazing if you ask me. I don't think my skill level will reach that any time soon.

I'm making an attempt at being an old time baseball player. It's hard to find an old time jersey though.

My best even semi-recent effort. I was Wilson from Home Improvement about seven or eight years ago, Fence and all.

I was a werewolf once in college, back when I had hair.
