Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone here knows a book written scholastically about the D - Day landings with After Action Reports of engagements
(ie John Keegan type writings et. ala). Just wanted to know since most of the stuff on d-day and the ETO are personal recollections and, compilations of such and, not written from a historians/ armchair general's POV.

Keegan ? you want Keegan type stuff ? :D I think you may be the first genuine Keegan fan I've met.

And on topic, no - I don't.

A John Keegan-style D-Day book? Well, there's Six Armies in Normandy by...John Keegan. ;)

The Longest Day -- Cornelius Ryan

It's more of a narrative. It's a wonderful book that is written similar to some of the Shara novels, but it's non-fiction. It doesn't go into the level of detail I usually like on individual battle reports, but it's an excellent book.

Regards,
Chas

I have to second Six Armies in Normandy as well, although War As I Knew It by Patton has some great stuff about Operation Cobra, as well as The Hinge of Fate by Churchill.

Take a look at Joe Balkoski's pair of books on Omaha and Utah beaches. Not sure if that's exactly what you are seeking, but it's good stuff.

Stephen Ambrose has some good books on D-Day. I want to say one is called Alllied Invasion: D-Day but I'm not 100% sure thats the name. It had some very good information in it though.

I have to second Ambrose here. I read his book that covers the entire war from D-day till V-E day. A good bit of the book was stories from the men that actually fought it.
