Which is why I expected Texas as #1, but I'm not sure I see the justification for PSU as a top 5 team, let alone the #2 team. I'm just looking for some insight there.

Every decent computer rating has PSU as a Top 5 team. Every one.
Of course, I agree with the PSU vs. USC question, but Penn State is being severely underrated purely because of preseason expectations. I realize that all their big wins have been at home, but they've done very well.

Penn State is a questionable clock decision away from being undefeated. If those two seconds weren't put back on the clock at Michigan, they might well have won that game.

I fully believe that if/when Texas and USC go head to head, that USC will dominate. I really hope they both finish undefeated.

Notes: A few more tweaks in the methodology to get rid of bias so there's some odd movement again, particularly in the lower ranks. The Big XII is just getting blasted for having their crap (go Kansas!) knocking off what was supposed to be decent teams week-in and week-out.
I'm sure this will raise some eyebrows but Virginia Tech is still ahead of Miami. They've played a harder schedule but Miami has a chance to pass them up- all depends on how the two do down the stretch and how the teams they play do. Again, the theory of my poll is the team that plays the hardest schedule gets ranked the highest and that's the biggest factor- head to head is further down the list. I know my system is still in its infancy, but in my mind, much better than a lot of the systems out there which are basically revolving doors of "you lose so you go to the back of the X loss teams since you lost most recently".

It was more than questionable, they were outright screwed. Penn State is more underrated than USC is overrated, which means by A LOT.
