Since many of us would like to do a Net Game:

Options:

1) A Euro League, non main-stream (IE, No Serie A, EPL, or Old Firm) Only way to make sure teams get apportioned fairly.. I'd take Cambridge in the Conference National if we did this

2) MLS league (we could have all 12 teams human controlled, and since a MLS game starts in January, the first six months would fly because Europe isn't doing anything till July 05)- I want my Revs :)

3) A South American League- Argentina or Brazil

I'd love to do a net game. I'm not sure how well the logistical aspects would work out, but I'm highly interested and I'd be up for any of these options :)

And nextly, two other options.

1) Fog of War On/Off
2) Real Players/Non Real Players

Personally, I'm for either taking over all the MLS or doing a low level English league (Conf Nats or League 2).

And non-real players.

If we do MLS, I'd prefer real players.. just me.. but what can ya do :)

Katon

Not too sure how well the logistics work out for me - I can't get Civ IV multiplayer to work, probably because of the college firewall. If I can play, then I vote for MLS or Brazil/Argentina. Lower-league Europe is too much like my single-player game. Fog of War On; don't care about real/non-real since I don't know many of the players anyway.

I am more willing to play once Sega gets off its lazy ass and releases the game to us who ordered the hard copy.

Not saying I'm in -- but if I am MLS/real would def. be my preferred choice -- agree with what Katon said (Europe is like any single-player game)

Remind me some time to tell you guys about some of the chants Sam's Army (The US Soccer supporter's club) had for Mexico :D

Ok.. bumping for Morning:

Right now, it looks like the most common thoughts are MLS/Fog of War On/Real Players

I believe Coffee has volunteered to host, and I'm hoping if I'm up early this afternoon, to try it out :)

I would like to do MLS but have a few questions....

How the hell does multi-player work in FM?
&
Since I have FM would it be compatible with WSM?

I would take Chicago..

I don't know if I'd like MLS -- I think the best would be that we all take big teams in Europe and compete in the Champions League. But count me in no matter what.

I am definatly interested. I would prefer Europe.
A lower Division in a major country could be cool.

Lower German or Italian leagues.

I'm in.

If it were MLS, I'd prefer Real Salt Lake since Columbus already got called.

It means that you don't get to see all of a player's attributes on another team until you either:

A) Scout that player
B) Play against the player in a match.

If someone does the net league, I'm interested in the MLS, DC.

Next question. How long/often we wanna play?

We'll obviously need at least SOME sort of schedule, 'cause "whenever we are all around and wanna play" never works.

I'm pulling for a weekday evening with the possiblity of two. Actual session length...I'm up for suggestions.

PilotMan

I would be interested once I get my copy. I would prefer to do a european league, lower is fine. I like masked attributes, and I definately think that it has to be a fictional league.

As for schedules there has to be a set schedule, a couple of sims per week, and if you can't make it then you will just have to rely on your assistant manager to do it.

Question

If it is hosted does that mean that you can access your team at any time? Or access the gameworld at any time? And will the games simulate as you get to them? I really don't know what the standard is for MP. If anyone gets the chance to find out the best way that other leagues go about it that might be helpful. Do a little SI boards research.

can someone explain how this works? is it like an ongoing league like an FOF/OOTP league, or is it hot-seat, head to head kinda thing? if it's gonna be an ongoing league i will buy the game tomorrow and be in on this.

i like MLS, shotgun Metrostars. fog of war on, real players please.

SirFozzie

HA: How it works is that one person acts as a server and hosts the game.

At the agreed on time, everyone logs in to the server (Coffee Warlord agreed to be the host).. and basically, the game doesn't continue till all logged in coaches are ready (you can also set it so once a majority of coaches are ready to continue, that sets up a timer to force continue).

One neat thing is that in MLS, since all the games are usually at the same time, you can click a button and see how the rest of the coaches are doing at any time :)

Anthony
11-08-2005, 08:03 PM
but is it a season by season set-up (ie, franchise mode)?

Yes. I think the idea would probably be along the lines of a couple hour-long sessions a week, progressing a couple weeks game-time at a time. So maybe 1 week real time = 1 month game time?

Meaning after a year, theoretically we'd be in the fourth season of the game.

In short: Yes, it is definitely franchise mode, not individual games or single-season simulation.

thanx, RPI. i'm very interested in this. i like this "fog of war" mode, really makes scouting important. awesome stuff.

Seems like we have a lot of people interested. Maybe we should do something with two or more league on equal footing. Like England's Conference North/South or Spain' Second Division B?

depending on the time that is generally agreed to play, i would be interested.

Why not one net game includng both folks? That way, people who want to play MLS can do that, and people who want to play Europe can do that, too.

Because the first 6 months would be thumb twiddling time for the Euros.

I think that it would be better if we had regualar updates. It isn't realistic to expect everyone to be on at the same time, but if you knew when it was going to be you could do it, or if you missed your assistant would just hold the fort down until the next update. That might be easier to manage than trying to get 20 guys all to sit down at the same time for 2 hours.

What if we start in July? Would it be mid-season for the MLS people, or would they have to sit and wait until the next season starts?

Anthony

i have no prob playing in Europe, it's not a sticking point for me. as soon as i see this league being set up to my liking i will purchase the game. i only preferred the MLS so i could be the Metrostars since i'm from the Tri State area, otherwise i wouldn't have the foggiest idea which team to pick in Europe. but for the sake of reducing "thumb twiddling" for one league or the other i'll make it simple and hop on the Europe side.

Does anyone have a list of who's interested w/ their "conditions"? I suspect that when we sort it all out, it wouldn't be possible to accomodate more than 12 people anyways (and if I were a 13th person, I'd be willing to sit out so the apparant majority of MLS is feasible).

I want in!!! You got me hooked on FM again... Talk about the power of FOFC ;)

One thing: I still don't have the complete game. I'm going to order a copy from Play.com soon, but probably I'll have to wait, like, a week before it arrives.

Anyway, I don't have real preferences on leagues, but I do prefer real players.

With all the people interested in this, MLS would not make much sense. I think the best thing to do is to have towo leagues at once running. I will take on the job of US MNT Manager. :)

GoldenEagle
11-09-2005, 09:52 PM
In all seriousness, that is what I would like to do. I would like to strictly be the US national team manager. I think it would be fun providing commentary on MLS and at the same time talking to managers about using their players on the national team. I also probably would not have the time to commit to managing a regular club.

I also would like to see how my ‘system’ would work on the national team level. It has been impressive on the club level when I have the players for it.
