A guy at work has one. It's pretty cool.

Still, when I went to buy my wife an ipod for her bithday recently the salesman couldn't really give me a good reason to buy the new one. If you really need to be able to watch videos, then get it. If not, I'm not sure why you wouldn't go with one of the other (cheaper) models.

I don't have one. I can say, however that the battery life is much better than my 3rd gen.

Video...big deal. Look at the battery life with the video. It's about 2-3 hours.

My advice, look on ebay for a new 4th gen. Save money. You get the color screen and will save some cash.

I just got an iPod (30gb video) as a wedding gift from my new wife (how awesome is she?!?), get to try it out on the honeymoon this week. Seems really cool, but I can't compare it to any of the other models cuz I've never had an mp3 player before.

One thing that bugged me, it doesn't come with an AC adapter (I think the older models do). This seems pretty chintzy to me, the only way to recharge is via USB without it. The other thing I found amazing is the lame-ass instruction manual. All it showed was how to turn it on, sync up music, and then play a song. I had to use google just to figure out how to turn it off! Nevermind deciphering all of the different settings and menus (or even surfing the menus!).

I was hinting for an iPod for Christmas, but I have gone another direction now. I want a Sirius S50, a new Sirius Satellite radio receiver. It is a receiver for Sirius, plus it has MP3 storage and you can record shows/music from Sirius, like a Tivo kind of. Not to mention pause/fast forward/rewind live shows which would be good when I am in and out of the truck.

I am not sure what the storage space is, all everything says is up to 50 hours worth of storage, and I found one thing that said 26,000 songs. Either way, I think I can live with this thing if I can get it.

I've got a 60GB iPod Video after owning a 4GB mini and I like it a lot. The battery life is much better now and it is thinner than the 4th gen iPod photos. The video thing isn't something I use often, but the few times I've used it it was a godsend (hour long ride on a cramped bus).

One thing I'm excited about is the TiVo to iPod synchronization. There is already software that lets you select shows from your TiVo to download nightly and convert to iPod format. I tried it a few weeks back and the video and audio got out of sync pretty fast... once that gets perfected it will be pretty amazing. There is already software available that lets you manually convert TiVo recordings to iPod format without any sync issues, so its only a matter of time until the automated stuff works too. I'll be traveling for work for a week at the end of this month so I might pick up the A/V cables so I can load some shows from my TiVo to watch in the hotel.

It would be nice, and I thought that was supposed to be the case before I looked into it more. I understand why they did it the way they did though...lighter, smaller, and longer battery life this way. Plus, I can have it record stuff so I can listen to it later, so it is good for me.

The iPod can/will connect to Tivo? Thats pretty cool. I would then have to get Tivo though.....damn. :)
