Wanna get away?

"The latest edition of the Popbitch.com newsletter reports that when TWISTED SISTER performed in Brighton, England last week, frontman Dee Snider gave a shout-out to the crowd, saying, "The balcony is where all the REAL sick motherfuckers are. They can't even stand up by show time. Let's have the house lights up to see them!" When the house lights were raised, the band and audience reportedly found themselves looking back at the disabled section of the crowd, full of fans in wheelchairs."

They reunited to much fanfare a couple of years ago and have been touring.

I give them credit for making quite a career out of like 2 songs.

More like 2 videos.

Wild makeup + bad hair + Animal House cameos = 30 year career

I call BS.

You're telling me that there's enough handicapped Twisted Sister fans in Brighton, England to fill an entire balcony?

Methinks somebody at Popbitch.com doesn't quite understand TS / their fans.

"Sick motherfuckers", S.M.F. for short, is how Snyder & TS refers to their most dedicated fans. The messageboard at twistedsister.com, for example, is called the SMF Slamboard.

From reading a few comments on the subject at that board (including a rave review of the Brighton show in another thread that just happens to be from a guy who mentioned "I've got to play in a wheelchair basketball game tomorrow") it's apparently a case where Dee was giving props to how much dedication the wheelchair fans showed to the band (putting up with a real bitch of a time to get to the show at all) and some writer who didn't understand the meaning of SMF at all totally misinterpreting the whole situation.

edit to add: Also, this may have been a reference to a similar incident that occurred 15-20 years ago, with similar situation & comment. Not clear to me from reading some scattered references to that whether the old incident was also meant as a tribute from Dee or whether it was indeed one of those embarassing moments.

so what does "they can't even stand up by show time" mean?

so what does "they can't even stand up by show time" mean?

From reading through assorted comments (several differents sites forums have talked about this) from people who were at the show, it's pretty unanimous that he knew exactly where the wheelchair section was. Some think it was just setting up a laugh line while giving the wheelchair fans a moment in the sun, others felt like he threw it in to take a shot at some able-bodied spectators who were sitting on their ass down toward the front. (as in "These SMF's can't stand up but they're rockin' their asses off up there while you're sitting down here like a f'n lump")

I met Dee Snyder while he was hosting a battle of the bands at Hard Rock cafe in SF. He seemed like a nice guy with terrible hair.
