I took the family down to the new Georgia Aquarium yesterday and thought some of you may be interested in seeing how things look. It's an amazing place and I would highly recommend going if you're ever in the Atlanta area.

The pics of moving under the aquarium looks atlot like Ripley's aquarium that I've been to in both Tennessee and Myrtle Beach. If that is what this is it is definately worth the money as those are very interesting places that I could spend all day at.

Todd (or others who have been):

How long is a typical time at the aquarium? We've got tickets for Saturday morning at 9am. When should I expect to be done, assuming that we try to see everything there is to see, not rushing, but not dilly-dallying, either.

We were there about 3 or 4 hours and saw 3 of the 5 exhibits, and had lunch (which is WAY overpriced and not that great in my opinion). To me, it was more getting through the crowds standing at each exhibit than it was waiting in lines, if you can figure out a way to get to the front of the crowd it's not too bad. We had Anthony with us so it was pretty easy, most people move aside for a small child and I just followed him through the crowd. The crowd control is pretty bad, I think that is the only bad thing about it. There were no employees trying to form lines or move people through when we were there, but even if there were they would have had a hard time just because of the sheer number of people.

I do know there is still a huge demand for tickets, we bought season passes and I tried to get a reservation for yesterday since there was no school...it was about 2 weeks ago and the tickets were already sold out. I don't think the crowds/lines are going to die down any time soon.

I'd be interested in hearing what others thought as well... I just tonight read an article about the construction of the facilities... acrylic windows that are up to 24" thick and are some of the largest free span windows in the world. I'd be staring at the structure instead of at the sharks...

It's simply amazing to see it in person.

Ben...we went through all five exhibits + the deep sea one (above pic) twice. It took us about 5 hours, but this was on a day prior to the official opening when it was just open to season pass holders. I'd imagine the crowd is much bigger now (especially on a weekend).

We had a 10am-11am scheduled arrival time, we got there at 10:15, got got inside the aquarium around 10:45 or so. One of the parking decks had just filled up and they were rerouting everyone, and we had to go up to the 5th or 6th level to find a spot, so it took us awhile.

VPI -- nice job on the pictures.

Also, I'd be curious to get a comparison of the Atlanta one vs the Chattanooga one if anybody has been to both. And Atlanta vs, say, The Living Seas at Epcot.

I'll try to remember to let you know what I think about that. We're going down today to get our annual passes for the aquarium and will be attempting to go through after that. I don't know if anybody else on the board will be able to say they've been through all 3 within the past couple of years or not.

I finally got an album up of our Georgia Aquarium family extravaganza!

Its the first time I've used this software and I didn't mess around with titles or anything, but my wife takes great pictures, I've been meaning to get this done and posted for awhile.

Nice job on the pics ... and out of curiosity, what software were you referring to? (New digital camera here, amount is picture taking is up considerably & I would kind of like to find something that made organzing for eventually putting things online a little easier to manage)

I don't know if what I did was the most efficient way to go about this, but it worked for me.

First, I downloaded PIXresizer: http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm , a program that let me point to the directory with all of the images that have been pulled off the digital camera and shrink them all with one click. This appears to be freeware.

The other software I was referring to was specifically for building the "photo album." It's called JAlbum, found at http://jalbum.net/ , also freeware. I haven't looked at all of the features of JAlbum, it may also take care of the resizing for me, I'm not sure. But what I used it for was to build the HTML for the photo album. It let me select a style, feed it a directory of input images, and select how many images I wanted per page. It then automatically created all of the thumbnails and all of the HTML needed for the album webpages. It took aobut 5 minutes and 5 clicks I think, including figuring out what style I wanted.

I zipped up that directory and uploaded it to angband, where I have lots of storage space available.

Like I said, I don't know if there are easier ways, but it sure worked for me.

I don't know crap about the digital camera, Oliegirl just put a zip file out there iwth all of the pictures in it.
