Among the celebrities taking part in Dancing With The Stars 2:

- Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart)
- Lisa Rinna (Soap actress?)
- Drew Lachey (98 degrees)
- Jerry Rice

So, that answers the question of who this year's Holyfield is.

Wow. I guess Holyfield was remarkable on the show last year in some respect? Was he remarkably bad, or remarkably good? Or was he just the only Athlete?

Lisa Rinna was on Days of Our lives, I think. My wife watched it all the time. She has incredibly ridiculous looking, collagen-enhanced lips. She's married to Harry Hamlin. A dynamo acting duo there. She's probably 15 years older than the chick they had last time.

To answer the above, Holyfield was anything but remarkable. All of the celebrities were at least fairly decent -- better than many of us could do, I would suspect. The judges on the show did say that Holyfield wasn't really good enough to be competitive, but to the untrained eye (like mine), he seemed fine to me. He doesn't really have a build that's made for ballroom dancing, and I was actually surprised at how well he was able to move. Yeah, I know that footwork is an important part of boxing, but I wouldn't have expected that footwork to translate so well to that type of dancing.

Also, he was the only athlete last time.

Wrong...Trista Rehn (The Bachelorette Chick) was a dancer/cheerleader for some pro sports team, but I can't remember which one right now...but anyway, that makes her an athelete too. ;)

My bad. I guess I meant that Evander Holyfield was the only pro sports player in the competition.

If I remember correctly, Trista was the first one out anyway, so she didn't last long enough in the competition to count. :)

Yeah, she was horrible...her dancing was awful but the funniest part was when she said she was uncomfortable dancing "that close" to another guy b/c now she is a married woman. She actually had her husband come in and give his "OK" for her to do some dance.

Can't wait for the new season though! :)

OMG - I take back all the bad things I said about Kenny Mayne's dancing...I just saw Master P!!!! That was just beyond hideous, how the judges saw anything good to say about that is beyond me.

I do kind of hope he comes back next week though, for one he only had 1 week to train, but if nothing else he'd provide the comic scenes for the show :)

I just don't get it.You sound like those people who are interviewed after hearing some God-awful American Idol contestant who say they thought the singing was pretty good. They almost always follow it up with "...of course I'm tone deaf and have no idea what a good singer sounds like."

My wife watched the first hour (we switched to CSI at 9), but I didn't really follow it. I like the fact that he's on the show simply because he's got an odd sense of humor that won't translate for 98% of the target audience. It's like they knowingly threw a bone to the husbands being forced to watch the show. Pretty smart move on their part.

Yep, that's her. Back when I used to come home for lunch on a regular basis and when my wife used to tape soaps and watch them at night, I used to know everything going on in those damned shows. However, once I started treating them like my own personal MST3000 episode, my wife was less inclined to continue taping them.

Way too masculine? I have some pictures that I can link to (no nudity, just sexy) that should change your opinion there. I am a little scared of what would constitute a boxing though. I think cheerleading fits better in the dancing/musical scene. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect out of those people, they might even work harder than sports people (I reserve the word athlete for true athletes, those who are in athletics), but it's no sport.

I guess my point was that it is not considered a sport in High School atheltics. It is considered a club. There was some kind of big deal about here in texas about losing the money if they danced provoctively.

Depends on the state I guess, there are competitive squads in Georgia HS & they're governed by the GHSA same as football, basketball, wrestling, etc.

edit to add: Then again, so is debate, literary, music, etc., so that isn't automatically a "sport" determinant. But I'd say those on the competitive squads are as much athletes as a lot of participants in other sports.

I think there's an easy way to determine whether something should be called a sport or not. If you can run into a random number of people and say let's play [insert sport] and after a while it's easy to see which team or individual won, it's clearly a sport.

In the event of dancing or cheerleading, despite it possibly demanding more from the body physically, you really need some individual to step aside and be willing to judge the groups. I have a hard time making a case for ski jumping, platform diving and gymnastics to fit into the Olympic Games, to be honest. Were I the IOC president, I'd try to urge those sports to either find a way to be judge independant or to leave the whole scene.

So by your standards, Swimming is not a sport b/c there is not always a clear cut winner if the race is very close, and you would need someone to step aside and be a judge. And kickball is a sport...? What about karate? For any sport to be judged fairly you need to have objective and impartial judges...I think what you are talking about are simply "pick up games" and in no way quantify what is a sport and what isn't.

To me, anything that requires intense, ongoing physical tranining and involves competition could be considered a sport. I don't think Sumo Wrestling is a sport, thought I am sure many people will disagree with me.

By that logic, professional wrestling is a sport. Intense, ongoing physical training? Check. Competition? If you perform well on the mic and in the ring, you'll be the champion. The competition is there as well. Check.

The best dancer in the competition is out (Stacy) and it's a fucking shame. I turned it off, and I (and my wife) don't even care who wins. The damned thing is a joke and a farce.

It was all about the votes - Jerry had a better fan following, Stacey was a better dancer. To be fair, Rice stepped up the last week. Lisa Rinna should have been the third in the finals, but Jerry deserved it to that point, I think.

Once Stacey fumbled a bit (she was hurt, too) in Thursday's finals, that really hurt - I think that cost her the votes.
