Are available in Delaware, but I never heard it from DirecTV. If you're a customer, you may want to inquire if they're available in your area.

Oh...and the only receivers they have do not have Tivo...so I'll have to wait about 6 months before they're available (and therefore no HD locals for me :( ).

I do not believe the new MPEG4 DVRs will be TiVos. They will be the new DVRs that will not include TiVo functionality.

The new HD locals are live for Atlanta, but despite all the press statements saying the swap for existing HD customers would be free, they tell me I would have to pay $99 for the receiver and dish. I passed on that for now. The rep actually told me that "$99 is next to free."

EDIT...my wife just called me a short while ago and said she was able to get it for free. They are bringing an H20 receiver and the new 5-LNB dish on 12/5.

So you're getting a receiver with a DVR?!

Sounds about right. My wife is always able to get things like that when I had no luck at all. Usually her chances increase when she is talking to a man, even if it is on the phone. It just is not fair sometimes....

Nope. Like you were told, the DVRs that can handle the MPEG4 encoding won't likely be available until mid-2006. I am pretty certain they won't be TiVos though. They are likely to be based on the non-TiVo DVRs that are supposed to start rolling out in early 2006.

The new AT9 dish is being installed right now, and I should have the H20 in the house and testing it out as soon as the signals are properly peaked. I'll let you guys know how it all works out, and how the HD locals look. I am hearing from friends around Atlanta, who got the upgrade before me, that the quality is just as good as OTA (which means it is as good as it can be).
