Getting rid of Winfixer

So I have this really bad spyware that I can't seem to get rid of. I think it's advanced to the stage where it shuts down my computer at random times. Spybot and Adaware can't seem to do a thing to it. Anyone have any helpful ideas on how to get rid of it? I'm not so good at going into the registry to get rid of it either.

I had that f-cker. What a beotch it was. I eventually gave up and reloaded XP. It beat me.

Try HijackThis. It can erase registry entries for you, if you can find out from Google what all registry folders have winfixer in it.

and i would just find hijack this, and follow the instructions. You usually end up posting your registry on their forum and some friendly soul will tell you which registry entries to delete. Works like a charm as long as you follow the exact instructions. Also run "msconfig" from the command prompt, and make sure this fucker isnt starting from boot up.

Better, maybe simple (if you know a little MS-DOS) way:

-in your visualization preferences, select "show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "hide protected system files"
-check in which folder the bastard is, doing a search of "winfixer.exe"
-write down the exact path on a piece of paper (usually it could be C:\WINDOWS, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32)
-put the XP cd in your drive
-reboot your computer loading XP from the drive
-enter the "recovery console" (sorry, don't know the exact name in english...)
-go in MS-DOS mode
-go in the exact path you've written down
-write "del winfixer.exe"
-reboot normally, without the cd

The file should be gone. It also should have left a couple of entries in your registry, but they're useless without the trojan file.

I hope I explained clear enough. If you have doubts, just ask.

I had this too but managed to get rid of it. First, try going to Norton's website, I believe they had a specific program FxVundo or FixVundo that helped get rid of it. Also, after running that and Microsoft Anti-Spyware, reboot your CPU, without the internet cable plugged in or without wireless on.

Microsoft Anitispyware is really good. It's wiped several spyware programs that I kept getting and could not remove with Spybot.

Also, try AVG Free Edition for upfront virus protection. It is pretty good and free.

I dont want to wipe things out so Im trying to avoid it.
