People ask why everyone hates Scott Stapp. Not only does the guy think he's bigger than Jesus, but he seems to be getting into these kinds of situations more and more. What an idiot.

'Out Of Control' Scott Stapp Incites Melee With 311 At Baltimore Hotel
12.01.2005 4:07 PM EST

Former Creed singer brawled in lounge with three members of 311 on Thanksgiving.

When Scott Stapp and members of 311 got together in a Baltimore hotel on Thanksgiving, it wasn't exactly a cordial holiday celebration. In fact, according to 311's Doug "SA" Martinez, it was quite the opposite.

On Thursday night, Martinez, bassist P-Nut and drummer Chad Sexton were sitting in the lounge of the Harbor Court Hotel with their wives, watching a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game. Suddenly an "out of his mind" Stapp entered the lounge, and from there things got ugly.

"He was acting out of control, looking for attention and being loud and obnoxious. He walked up to the bar, took a shot of whiskey and then slammed the shot glass down on the bar, and it shattered everywhere," Martinez told MTV News. "Then he got into it with some patrons and all of a sudden he's walking up to us and telling us how much of an inspiration we were to him. And it was nice, but we had all just eaten our Thanksgiving dinner, and he was drunk, so it got really annoying really quickly.

"After a while he went back to the bar and was looking for attention. And then a few minutes later, he came back to the table where my wife was, sat down across from us and wanted attention," Martinez continued. "So eventually, since [no one] was forthcoming, he said some disrespectful things towards my wife and I set my glass down and asked him what he said, and then Chad came over and said, 'Don't talk to her that way,' and Scott got up and Chad followed him."

Martinez said things quickly escalated from there, as Stapp turned and "sucker-punched" Sexton in the face — inadvertently hitting Martinez's wife in the process.

"And all of a sudden it was on. I threw a punch and hit Scott. He went down. Then Chad came over and hit Scott too," Martinez said. "At that point we held Scott down until hotel security came to break it up. Then the police arrived, escorted Scott to his room and then told him to get out of the hotel."

A spokesperson for Stapp did not return MTV News' requests for comment on the altercation, and according to the Baltimore police department, no charges have been filed. The melee left Martinez with a fractured knuckle on his right hand, which he fitted with a soft cast the following day. P-Nut reopened a surgery scar in the fight, though Martinez isn't exactly sure how that happened.

"Everything happened so quickly, man. Like stuff was getting knocked over, and that's maybe how P-Nut got hurt," he said. "I mean, I haven't been in a fight since probably third grade, so the whole thing was pretty surreal. It was out of control. Scott was enraged. And as we were holding him down, I felt really bad for him. I was concerned for him ... But at least the Lakers won."

My wife saw him on Leno the other night and said "He sounds like Creed!!! I need to buy her album!!!".

Apparantly, I have taught her nothing. :(

word up...you're right. of course, i've never seen his name in print before, always heard it. i guess he uses "SA" as a cute way to say "esse".

they haven't made a good song since "Amber" and 311 are has-beens, so i guess it's all moot.

311: not a great band, not a bad band. if you can get past the nasally(sp) voice of the rapper guy, they are good to listen to in small doses.

Creed: quite possibly a band that will go down as being one of the greatest song writing bands of all time. i say this in regards to the fact that they wrote really catchy, great songs. Hooks galore and Mark Tremonti (gtr player) is a fucking awesome musician and song writer. Stapp is a hoser and was only the face and voice of creed. Mark was the bread and butter of the band and that was proven with Alter Bridge.

You cant knock Creed. They found the formula. Sometimes, it's not about being true 100% Music is a business and you need to grab any chance you get.

I heard yesterday that Scott Stapp was at FX's Casino Cinema (I think that is what it's called) taping recently and started getting all obnoxious for the camera and talking trash about Bono and and other huge mega-bands. Not sure if they are going to show it or now, but it was all caught on tape so I am sure it will surface somewhere at some point.

I've never really hated Creed's music. In fact, I liked the fact that they kinda combined 80s-style riffing with 90s post-grunge. Maybe the fact that I never really heard it much (since I don't listen to radio) is why it still hasn't become annoying to me. But Stapp is undeniably an ass. Most people don't realize it, but Tallahassee was Creed's last stopping point before they went to California and hit it big. Their manager owned a club here in town that they used to play at, and he gave it all up to take them on 100%. They never came back once they hit it big. However, Alter Bridge played here within 6 months of releasing an album. That tells me quite a bit.

The most bizarre thing about it is that Stapp likened himself to Jim Morrison, by saying that Morrison's last stop in Florida before he went ot LA was in Tallahassee, too. I mean, what a ridiculous thing to suggest.

Oh, and I've seen the commercial for his new album WAY too many times already. That song sounds way too much like Creed. It doesn't just sound like Creed; it sounds like a rip-off of an actual Creed song.

I guess the album promotional tour is in full swing now:

Scott Stapp is still an alcoholic mess

Scott Stapp, the former lead singer for Creed, is back in the news again for his usual routine of being a drunken ass. He showed up to a taping of Spike TV's Casino Cinema on Tuesday completely wasted, and started harrassing hosts Beth Ostrosky and Steve Schirripa.

"From the moment he walked into the studio, he was rude, belligerent and drunk," reports a Lowdown spy. "With Beth, he was nothing but extremely mean, sexist and an all-around jerk."

Another source says that even with his publicist in tow, Stapp cursed "every other word," called a female executive producer a "b-," constantly flipped the bird, and referred to Ostrosky - better known as Howard Stern's longtime girlfriend - as a "bimbo." <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_287408-->

I've said it here before, but I really like their first album. It was more about the heavy guitar than the vocals and it was very good stuff. The second album there were a few good songs but most of it was stuff to show off Stapp. And the third album was all about Scott Stapp and the show was over for me...

You really don't get a firm grasp of the Scott Stapp experience until you've seen him play Celebrity Poker. If you get a chance to play cards with this guy, you'll be a millionaire in about 15 minutes.

I still jam out to 311 every now and then, but only their older stuff as that's all I have. Do it more for the memories of some friendships in the past than anything else. I think they had a pretty decent single that was on the air a year or two ago.

The most recent album is actually pretty good. Different style than the last two. Can't say what the single could have been...last I heard on the radio was Down. But that is Pittsburgh radio, and if it isn't from before 1985, or from a cool "new" band like Linkin Park or the like, then, by law, they can not play it.

Their old stuff is definitely better, but the new albums usually have a few good songs (usually not the singles.) I personally hate the Amber/Love Song trend in their singles and the fans that come with it.

Don't know if I liked it any more or less than previous...just that it was a totally different style.

I guessed Don't Tread on Me would be released as a single...but won't get played here. Wasn't sure, sovereignstar had mentioned he thought it was a year or more ago. Couldn't think of what they might have released as a single off the last album.

We drove to Columbus early this year to see them when it looked like they wouldn't make it to Pittsburgh.
