View Full Version : Repairing My Big Screen?

A few months ago, my two year old 54 inch Mitsubishi big screen's signal board shorted out when a mouse thought the TV would make a nice place to nest. I had a repairman the other day look at to see what it was going to take to fix it. To replace the board with labor is going to cost $600. The TV was worth $1900 when I bought it.

I was just talking with my brother about repairing it after the new year, but he's telling me to just trash the it. Do you guys think that it's worth fixing or should I consider just sending it off to the scrap heap and getting a new TV with the money I would have spent fixing the old one?

take the mouse to small claims court, then use the proceeds to repair the tv.

Depends on if you're going to want HD soon. As the price of HDTV's are coming down nicely this year, if you're into HD.. save the cash and buy an HDTV.

If you think HD doesn't matter to you now or not in the near future, get the big screen fixed.

Yes, I can't believe you can get a 27" HDTV for $100 less than I paid for my normal 27" TV a few years ago.

Well, to be fair that is a HDTV monitor (which is what I have too).I have a 27" Phillips that I got in Feb for $350 that I just found out does 1080i.

The thing is that it is a HDTV. I plan on getting the DirecTV HD package as well once I get this TV repaired or buy another HDTV.

What ticks me off is that TV was $399 yesterday and now it's $569.99. Wtf?

I was going to check it out at CC today. Sheesh...

Find a repairman that will fix the board instead of replacing it. Should cost significantly less than that. I would estimate 200 bucks myself.

Well, it had MIR that expired on Dec 3. It was probably on sale from last Sunday through Saturday.

Yeah, I didn't look that closely and since we were going shopping today, I didn't think about it much.

Oh well..
