I have used a strategy recently that has both helped and hurt me and wanted to know if any of you people do the same thing.
I play a single-player league. I have noticed that every 2 or 3 years you can pick up a QB with a potential of 60-70 in the later rounds, say rounds 4-7. I will often grab one of these when I can, use him in training camps for several years (and maybe garbage time in the regular season). When he is close to developed, I will trade him off, often times with my first round pick, and get one of the top picks in the draft. That obviously helps in rebuilding your team without losing (recently I did this and was able to, with a few other trades, end up with 3 first round draft picks!). It does come back to haunt me at times when I see 1 or 2 of my former players in the top of the QB ratings, especially recently when, the season after I traded away a 68/77 QB, my regular starter (who had just finished the previous two seasons with ratings of 96.0 and 117.8) went down for 1 1/2 years with an MCL injury (not injury prone before this). So, it is a risk. If you want a real life example, Green Bay used to do this in the 90s with their QBs that played behind Brett Favre.
Anyway, your thoughts?
