Wow...good to know it wasn't just my lame ass conference south keepers doing this....

The opponent would head the ball on towards my goal, but it would roll to a stop near midfield, and my goalie would be all "Oooh! That one's mine!" and run for it, whereupon the opposing striker would make him look silly.

You know, prance around him in a circle with the ball, go all Brazilian on him with it, and when the guy was thoroughly embarrassed, boot it into the wide open net.

Yeah, I'm not sorry to hear that's gone.

I know you're kidding - but the vast majority of fixes are either dashed rare & obscure or minor tweaks which most people will never notice ... yeah we've done a lot but we're perfectionists and want it to be as realistic as possible (even if we are the only people who will notice some of the fixes ;) ).

I was just about to make a post regarding FM...

...are 'keepers getting hurt constantly in the patch? Playing my first season as Spurs, Robbinson has missed over 20 games now, and lately, he'll be out for a few weeks and either get hurt immediately after getting back into full training, or get hurt in his first game back. And of course, Radek Cerny has got hurt a few times aswell. Thank God Spurs have some decent depth there!

That was my main concern. Will have to play the final two games of my current season today, and then d/l the patch and prepare for next year! Currently in a race with Newcastle, West Brom, and 'Boro for the Europe. :)

I'd just look using the game (the "Check for Updates" button, or whatever it's called). It knows what version of the game (i.e. digital download) and will take you to the download when it's up.

It probably won't be up untill after lunch (on the east coast) anyway.

And hey, just finished up the final two games of my first season with Spurs! I thought Europe was done for after young Stephen Kelly screwed up and let Portsmouth score (on Radek Cerny, my #2)...but the Footballing Gods were smiling upon the Spurs! Newcastle lost to Chelsea and, I think, drew their last game. West Brom lost to somebody, and I beat Middlesborough 3-1 in the final game of the year, easily securing 5th. :)

Not bad, considering I lost my first 3 games of the year, and struggled around 10th or 11th most of the season untill April!

Note to SI: Spurs do good the first half of the season, then play like crap and at the end of the season. It seems to be the other way around.

Or perhaps my plan of slowing the tempo and using more time wasting (primarily to screw with the other teams flow) just worked that well.

*This message is for users who have downloaded and installed Worldwide Soccer Manager*

Unfortunately I have just had word from the US that Digital River are on "holiday schedule". We require for them to process the exe before we can put it into the patch. We have had a message from our Account Manager however stating that she is trying to contact the person who can do the job.

Obviously I'm not too pleased about this and I'm trying everything in my power to get it wrapped and released for you guys.

As soon as there is any news I'll report it here of course - sorry about the delay.

Eh, oh well. Digital River...never have liked them. I wish Sega used ViaTech, but oh well. I'll continue on with my game, I've made it one season and having a blast, don't see why I couldn't go another.

BTW, FM, why bashing Sega? From what I read, it's Digital River that is the problem (and surely anybody here who had one of the earlier versions of FOF done through DR would know that it is, in fact, The Devil.) I'm sure Sega (and even SI and Digital River) are not out to purposely screw with the game and diminish it's reputation (and potential future sales). A lot of companies have lesser holiday schedules this time of the year. It's not entirely uncommon.

Like FM said, pretty much nobody is on any "holiday schedule" here. Hell, I know of a few places where people will be lucky to get half a day off just on Friday. What's Digital River doing? Giving their people the next two weeks off? If it was evening or if it was a day or two before Christmas, I can understand. the problem isn't in the hosting per se, but mostly in the final operation that Sega has to do, the "wrapping" of the patch so it works with the digidownload version of the game. Still, it sucks... Posted a request for information of some sorts on the SI forums at about 8 this morning and nobody has acknowledged anything yet... :(

Basically digi-download purchases start off as a normal game with NO copy-protection but a few coded hooks in them which will eventually link to DigitalRiver stuff - we then package our stuff off to them ask them nicely to "wrap it up" so to speak and they return us a completed package which handles all the online copy-protection/purchasing stuff.

Unfortunately because all of this 'wrapping' is done outside of SI we have to wait patiently for such things to be completed, which can be frustrating for all concerned at times.
thanks for the explanation Marc. I wasn't that far though ;)

So I take you guys are still waiting on a return on your emails, right? They really need to get this done before Friday or else this will take a loooooong time... I'm off work for two weeks starting Friday at 4:15 and would hate it to have this massive amount of playing time not be spent playing with the patches version of the game. Not that the 6.0.1 code is really bad, but it's frustrating not to be able to play with the latest one when a new version is available...

And I agree with this, the patch *IS* savegame compatible and it's not as if you'll be so much into your career that any permanent damage will have been done. I've played one season with Luton and I've enjoyed it immensely. I'll simply patch it and keep on playing...

well, your choice of being at Rimini forever or not isn't really dependant on the patch, so the diving in shouldn't be based on that. As for the keeper bug, read the line again:

- Fixed obscure bug where keeper will run out of own area to intercept an impossible ball and leave goal empty

This could mean that once in a blue moon, you'll give away a weird looking goal, so maybe you'll lose one game because of that, what the heck. It's never happened to me btw. My biggest gripes are the defenders doing wild clearances accross their penalty area, still this won't stop me from playing the game...

Memo to SI: If anyone applies for employment under the name Dave or David Dial, PLEASE do not accept. Under any circumstance.

The SI guys do the usual great job they always do. As Frogger said, there's no way they can be blamed for this. I can only hope they do not get too frustrated with the whole process of digital downloads, considering how much work the whole crew must have put into this. I hope you guys at SI understand and remember how highly we think of you when the feeling of frustrations threatens to overwhelm.

While it is true that it is DR's fault and not SEGA that the digital patch is delayed, SEGA has to take a sizable chunk of the blame given that they chose these assclowns for this job. They are not a small outfit and surely they have choices as to who does this job for them (ViaTech immediately comes to mind). Instead they elect to go with these guys who gives you the feeling that they couldn't code a paper bag to NOT be able to find their way out of.

Hey Path, one way to speed up the save time is to delete the .pks files. I did this last night and it helped out, and the only negative of this is that you cannot go back and watch past matches. (Which I never do anyway.)

Here's the copy and paste from a post over on the SI boards:

"Here's what you can do. Load up your saved game, go to Start>Run, type in %temp%, navigate to the FM06 folder, and delete all the .pks files there, ONLY the .pks files or your game will be screwed. Then save your game. Backup your old game if necessary. This also helps reduce the size of saved games but the downside of this is that you can no longer view past matches."

this was in FM2005 and has happened to me a few times with Q.P.R. One thing to remember though. Once he let's you go over the budget, you are kind of "in the red" and any sales you make until the new season will be used to pay back that overspending. This means once you get into that kind of thing, you basically sign only one player and that's about it for the season. Can be nice when you're about set at every spot and want one difference maker, but if you have many holes to fill, you may have trouble filling them...

to add on this, I don't remember ever seeing the "pleased of seeing you heeding his advice" comment on the transfer screen though. When he'd told me to go after high profile players, I'd simply bid on one I judged to be a high profile player and hoped he'd let me go over budget, which he always did, at least on all the players I tried to bring on board...

To see it before you make the bid is very nice though...

you need to start the game, load your savegame to unpack the .pks otherwise the temp folder of FM is empty. Then you can go and delete the files and save your game, you'll see immediately the size of your savegame has shrunk. Always good to back up your savegame before doing this thing...

You can do it as often as you want. I'd recommend doing it prior to the start of the season as what games you'd lose would be those of the previous season. I sometimes like to see the stats of games from my future opponents while scouting, but I almost never scout as far back as the previous season...

Man, I just remembered this and I guess I will post it here.

Do players/media adjust their views of your team during a season? Because I don't ever really see it happen yet when I wish I would.

With Expreso Rojo in Columbia, I am in my first year of the Mustang A (basically Premier league) and of course not much is thought of my team at first. But I knew I had a bad ass group of young guys. After a few games my stud 20 year old forward is getting a TON of media and his value has shot up to 2.5 million. So all of the sudden he feels pressure from local media, then feels he needs to move to a bigger club. At the mid point of the season there is a playoff of the top 8 teams, I am currently sitting at 4th. I end up getting the final only to lose. But in the group round I defeated a so called bigger lub twice and yet this guy is attracted to this club.

Not to mention the media gives me no respect most of the time still, even though my team has only lost 2 of 17 games (4 of 24 if you include the mid-season playoff).

I understand players/media being a little skeptical at first, but by this pointin time they should be feeling that my team is good, which would mean a) respect from the media in the odds and b) players not saying they want to go to a bigger club in order to compete for trophies, when my team is getting closer to the trophies then the teams they are interested in.

another CTD, this time a serious problem while working on my tactics before a game. I could not be more frustrated. This is ridiculous!!!

Just wondering, but do you have 'Threading' turned on? That seems to cause problems with the download version for some reason, not sure why though. I unchecked that and it's run without a single problem since.

And Cringer, from my experience the media and such do react to how you're doing throughout the season. For instance, my current season as Spurs.

Start the season, I'm 5th in the title odds and expected to finish up in that region...after a horrible start I'm hovering around 14th most of the year up to November, and I'm struggling and such...then I go on an amazing run of form and as I climb up the table the media regards spurs slightly differently. Most of all calling me 'In form' and 'High flying' untill at last I'm a title contender again here in the late stages.

But you're not gonna go from being a small club to a big club during the course of one season, probably not even if you won the championship. Did Blackburn become a 'Big Club' when they won the Premiership? No. You'll have to do good for two or three years to really become a 'big club'.

Unless some rich billionaire buys your club, of course.

Is that new with the patch? Or were you just pointing out something you hadn't seen overall? I know I haven't seen that yet....

It depends on the personality of your chairman, so it won't happen all the time.

While we're asking questions in here (and talking about leagues), I'd like some opinions. I'm thinking of putting WSM on my desktop. It's an 800 mHz processor, with 512 MB of RAM. How many countries and leagues do y'all think I could play with?

I'll third this sentiment. I'm one of the people who get the crashing unless threading is turned off. It wasn't too bad at first, and I've only had one crash since then, but I'm now into my fourth season and man, it is SLOOOOOOOOW. About two minutes for loads and saves slow.

:(
Same here. I won't play WSM 06 over my long holiday weekends because of this.

Oh well, I'll just buy the FM version next year.

Depends on how fast you want things to go I guess.

This old laptop I am using is a 1.10 gHz with 512 MB of RAM, but really 480 after you take out the shared video RAM.

I have all the South American countries and all available leagues going and I think it moves along fine. I think it is 17 leagues. I had 15 Leagues when I was doing my Northern Ireland game with Wales, England, and Scotland going. That was about the same as this.

One I started and stopped for some unknown reason was where I had about 24 leagues going with several Euro countries. I would have played it but it was noticeably slower going from week to week in the game. One thing to keep in mind is that things are usually slower when the Transfer windows are open, and the speed picks after that.

The big thing is saving the game. It takes several minutes on this computer, obviously longer the deeper you get into the game. I will try deleting those files now to speed it up so that should help.

I'm running all of England on a 2GHz/2GB Ram laptop. I wouldn't want anything more as a big match day takes a while to process. I also make sure my virus checker and any unnecessary processes are shut off.

Regarding the patch, I'm glad I haven't noticed anything warranting a patch but simple past experience with Jim would have steered anyone away from Digital River. ViaTech would have been a better choice. Hopefully, this doesn't remove the download option for future versions because I probably wouldn't have got into the game otherwise.

I don't think I could even imagine how fast that would run compared to what I put up with. But really I don't think it is too bad for me. If I am sitting there looking at the screen as things move along, then maybe it would bug me more. But usually I have something I can turn to if I need to.

Does this also work for WWSM 05? I'm currently in 2010 and saving is taking quite a bit of time.

Cool. Looks like I had a little under 40 megs worth of .pks files.
