View Full Version : Should Houston and San Fransico play for the #1 draft?

Houston and San Fransico play the last game of the season.
if both teams ends up having only 2 wins each and no other team has a chance to have the worse record, should the winner than play for the #1 pick?
it will give big interest in the game and make sure both teams dont tank on the last game against each other on purpose.
i think the commish should make that game be played for the #1 pick if you win.

Well, it's an interesting idea, but they can't do that. If both teams play to win, then shouldn't the loser be the team most deserving of the #1 pick? You end up penalizing the worst team for being the worst. It can't be done.

EDIT: Nevermind, you are talking about an actual toilet bowl game for the #1 pick.

Don't count out the Jets or the Saints just yet. These are two awful teams with a chance to catch these guys!

I know it's very improbable but I would love to watch that game.

As a 49ers fan, I have very mixed feelings about these last few weeks.

I still think Kohler Co. should sponsor The Toilet Bowl for the two worst teams in D-1A college football and play it at Lambeau on New Year's Eve.

lol-Something tells me not many schools would display that hardware in their trophy case.

The "trophy" could be a $100,000 remodel of the winning team's locker room bathroom.

Don't forget the Packers. I don't see them beating Chicago or Seattle.
I think we'll see a tied game finally ending with a -60 yard run ending up in a safety.

But that's the genius of it! The league tells the teams this is what's going to happen. So they both try to win the game. Then after the game Tagliabue says "Psyche! Now we know that (losing team goes here) is really the worst team because we know neither team tanked the game. They get the first pick!"
jbmagic is a freaking visionary.

I think pride takes over in a game like this. No player wants to be on the worst team. Plus, they are all fighting for jobs next season. No player in his right mind would tank it just so his team gets the number one pick only to see himself cut because he was such a slacker.
That being said as a fan I hope the Packers can somehow end up #1! After that performance last night, they are deserving of the worst team award.

somebody recently posted in a thread that I cannot now find a link to a page that calculated the projected draft order as of the current week. Does anybody have the link or the thread?

My guess would be that as a franchise, you'd rather have the #2 or #3 pick than the #1 pick anyway.

So... confused...Are you a 49ers fan because of your striking resemblance to former 49ers Head Coach Steve Mariucci?

They would likely need BOTH Houston and SF to win this week, then Houston to beat SF (or a tie), and have the Jets and the Saints each win one game. Even then (barring a Hou - SF tie), SF would need to end up with a better strength-of-schedule rating than GB, and right now, they are tied. GB's remaining opponents are a combined 14-14, while SF's are 7-21, so that will be tough. GB would likely lose the S-O-S tiebreaker with either NO or NYJ.
