ohmigod, I just got sucked into my first ad at the top of the forum.
Anybody heard anything about this game? I know we've got more than a few tactical rpg fans on here. Looks like it's made by the people who did Silent Storm, which was above average in my opinion...the kind of game that holds your attention for only a week or two, but it had some potential. I'd love to hear some buzz if you've got it.
I wish the turn-based tactical rpg had never gone out of style so drastically. They're so rare these days, but when doe right it's really my favorite genre of game. (Sadly, I think that's because they best emulate the feeling of playing ye olde pen & paper RPGs)

I almost bought this at EB a few days ago. Got Gangland for 20 dollars instead. Should have went with H&S

just popped over to check the talk in the forums over there. doesn't seem like it's anything groundbreaking, but maybe a bit of fun nonetheless?

Ok, I would be a sucker for this game. Just viewed the movies on their website. Now I gotta try out the demo.

I played Silent Storm alot, and loved it. Tried the H&S demo, and it was pretty fun as well. Since it emphasizes stealth and thinking (espionage) more than just firefights, it should be more exciting than SS. I've read reviews, and noticed first-hand with the demo, that the story and dialogue are kinda messed-up. I haven't seen it in stores yet, and the more I think about it the more I think I'll go with SS Gold rather than H&S at this time. SS Gold has the original and the expansion (SS Sentinals) along with all the patches, and it's supposed to sell for $20. I may pick up H&S a few months down the road when its fully patched and cheaper.

I've only played the demos for SS and H&S. I liked the demo for SS much better. I'm not sure if the H&S demo drops you into the middle of the story or if it's a translation thing but the story didn't make much sense. I also wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to be doing most of the time. I think I'll save my $.

Looks a bit like that old mercenary game (don't recall the name) by Talonsoft I think.

That's it. Thanks - brings back some fun memories. I loved the different interactions between your Mercs depending on your team makeup.

Looks like alot of fun and was about to buy it as I was a huge SS fan. Unfortunatley it has Starfarce protecting it.Will wait until I get my secondary vanilla computer going in a few months before I shell out the bucks for this.

Which is the one thing that really kills Silent Storm to me..well, and the Panzerkleins..there's just no personality to the characters at all, very boring.
Still a fun game though, the physics system is amazing on it, but it ain't no Jagged Alliance.

I recently loaded up Jagged Alliance 2 Wildfire for old time sake. It kicked my ass! Repeatedly! So I stopped playing it. :(
An updated version of Jagged Alliance 2 is being developed by some fans, with updated graphics, i'll try to find the url.

It's done. Supposedly it greatly revamps the enemy AI as well. Sounds impressive. I'd link to it but the only way I know how to find it is from the Octopus Overlords site, and it's down at the moment.

Yeah, that's Wildfire that WSUCougar talked about above. At least I think it is. It was at my local EB for $10 a few months ago, which is a great value considering all the fun I had with the JA series. Unfortunately, it wasn't so much 'updated graphics' as it was 'new sprites'...still the same engine and stuff, just different equipment and scenery.
Likewise, I'll echo WSUCougar's sentiments that the revamped AI kicked my freaking ass day in and day out....to the point that it made the game unenjoyable. The AI in the game wasn't exactly easy to start with, and now there seems to be twice as many enemy on every map. All of this equated to constant reloads for me.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to say it was a bad game, because there were still all the elements that made JA a blast to play through all it's iterations, and the new modifications were probably a godsend to grognards, it just required a style of play that takes way more patience than I have available.

I think this latest patch/update is different than Wildfire. It was released just a week or so ago, I believe. The source code to the game was released a while back, and some people went in and redid a ton of stuff, but mainly they ramped up the AI even more. It now flanks, and picks up weapons off fallen troops, and uses height better, among other things. I might be wrong, but I don't think it's Wildfire.
Once Octopus Overlords comes back up, I'll follow up and post the info here.

Yep, it's a fan-based patch, not Wildfire. I'm sure you can find some info on it on Bear's Pit forums..

They also upped the resolution options, so that's pretty nice. It sounds like a pretty awesome mod all around.
I'm just too lazy to search for it there myself right now. :)
EDIT: I lied, not too lazy to find it right now. JA2 1.13 Mod (http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=42;t=000017)
Now I have to find my JA2 cds again.
