Nissan Altima vs. Pontiac G6.

I like both. I will get a supplier discount through my dad for the Pontiac (but Pontiac has some sort of special going right now anyhow). That might be the deciding factor if the discount is significant enough.

Thoughts? MSRP, they are about the same price. I'm not getting many bells and/or whistles...4 cylinder etc I don't need all that jazz.

There is a small chance of going with the Dodge Charger or Chrysler 300 but obviously I'd be spending more.

Insurance seems to be pretty close too (casual research) with the last two cars a bit higher because of the V6.

I need some input! I'm a puss when it comes to this and don't know too much about buying cars in general.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FOFC!

Go with the Pontiac if it's cheaper. Cars are a really dumb way to waste money.

The Chrysler 300C is one heck of a car, imo. My dad has one and I love it. I would take the G6 over the Altima anyday though.

Let me threadjack for a moment. After 5 long years, I made the final payment on my car today, woo hoo! End of threadjack.

If I had to do it over again, I would lease or buy used something in the near-luxury class (i.e., BMW 3-series, Audi A4, etc)...

I'd go with the Pontiac, but I am biased for American cars, American companies, American workers, Americans and America.

You can choose whichever you want.

So the choice actually becomes whether or not you want to piss on The United States of America.

If you feel foreign cars, their workers and companies who would love to put you and I out of work, go with the Nissan.

Thanks for all of the input! I wish I could afford a BMW lease that would be nice! First year employee...oh yeah lol.

I'd probably shy away from a V6 Charger or 300. IMO, the cars aren't really worth it unless you've got the V8.

Between the Altima and the G6, I'd probably go Pontiac. Which G6 were you looking at, the sedan, coupe, or convertible?

I like both the coupe G6 and the Sedan but I will probably go with the sedan just because it is cheaper (and it's one of the few cars that has 4 doors and doesn't look grandparentish). I don't like convertibles.

It depends what G6 you are looking at, although i'd any over the Altima. My choice would be the G6 GTP, its SuperCharged baby.

I wouldn't touch a Pontiac unless I was leasing and could turn it in during the warranty period. Pontiacs have an awful track record for breaking down in years 4-6. I have nothing scientific to back that up, but I have had several friends have the breakdowns happen to them.

I would also recommend going the slightly used high end car route. If you are looking to spend 18k on a car, go with an A4 with about 30k miles and get a warranty on it.

Just my 2 cents

FWIW - Before I moved to NYC in August I had an Altima and loved it. Drove great, put little money into repairs and was a good value.
