Looks like jolly old St.Nick did it again ... well, actually, it looks more like the Hasbro Star Wars factory blew up & landed in my dining room. We'll be opening action figures for most of the day it appears (43 by my last count). Correction, my son will be opening action figures ... I'll be trying to get his new p.c. hooked up (and trying to figure out where to stash the old one).

Ma-in-her-kerchief has Seasons 1 & 2 of Bewitched on DVD while I (sans cap & sans nap) have a couple of very neat 1914 holidays tins. They were (as it was explained to me) given to British troops filled with candy, cigarettes, etc. during WWI. Seems quite cool although I haven't had much chance to investigate the backstory on these yet.

That reminds me of my Chistmas, 1981. It my dad was in Germany and he had given his credit card to a friend who was traveling back to New York. He told him to get me some Star Wars stuff. His friend made sure that I had a great Christmas. He bought almost every action figure that they had (2 big boxes filled), and a couple of play sets to go along with it. I was in heaven. My dad was shocked at the bill. I don't think that was what he inteded, but I didn't care at all. That was a great Chistmas.

Those are the MOST comfortable shoes I have EVER worn!!! I got a pair a couple months ago, and fell in love with them! I think part of the reason I love them is that they have great shock absorbtion on the heel and with the knee problems and plantar facitis I have right now, that helps me walk alot. I ended up buying a second pair in brown and will probably pick up another pair on ebay when the prices go down...seriously, give them a chance before you judge them!

Ok, now that I have made my decision regarding my main present I will post what I got I guess.

Main present was a new Sirius receiver, the Starmate Replay. My wife was going to get me the S50 (against what I said because of the price) but decided not to last week because of something I told her about a rumor on the siriusbackstage.com boards about them making them totally portable in 6 months. So when I opened the Starmate Replay she said I could return it if I wanted and get the S50. I left it unopened all day and did some reading tonight to decide. It just about killed me to decide this. :D Anyways I am sticking with the Starmate Replay. I figured te S50 stuff is so new, and it seems like the technology behind it could be fine-tuned so much over he next year or so that the $300 for it is best saved right now. I think it will be a better purchase down the line.

We activated the Starmate Replay a bit ago and I am pretty happy with it. It has tons of features the old one from last year doesn't have. Stores artist's along with songs, and teams, to alert you of when they are on one of the channels. My old one was just song title. Plus you can pause/ff/rewind for between 30-60 minutes on any channel. So far it even sounds better hooked up straight to my little Bose computer speakers. What was nice is the home kit came free as a bonus (normal $45). Plus it is smaller then the old one. I love it, glad I made the choice I did. The S50 can come down the line.....

Also got.....

-Pair of Homer/Simpsons boxers.
-New wallet (the old one was held together by electrical tape:D)
-Lucky You Cologne box set (only cologne I really like I guess)
-Packers tree ornament
-Daughter and I got a joint present, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Season 4 DVDs

I gave Loren a wireless USB adapter for the PC so she can move it to where she wants to. And got her a DVD recorder/player for the TV.

Funny thing about our gifts is we both get something out of what we gave the other. She will get my old Sirius receiver to have in the car, and she can now record shows like Lost for me to watch on the road. :D

Oddest gift in the family. An aunt and uncle of mine gave my daughter King Konga game (comes with bongos) for the Nintendo Gamecube. Only one thing, we don't have a Gamecube. Not sure what to do about this one.... :)

I had perhaps the best Christmas ever gift wise. My original gift was to go to the Georgia-Tennessee game in October, but that fell through when my wife was injured (again). She really made up for it.

My gifts to my wife were complete sets of Buffy and Angel, the television series. Not just a season, every season. I also paid out for her lasik surgery that she got last month. I'm told I also bought her an assortment of clothes, but obviously I wasn't picking those out.

My work place really hooked me up as well. I worked Monday through Thursday night, and came home Friday morning. I don't have to be at work again until the 2nd. The best part is I didn't have to take leave. That's a good thing. I spent way too much taking care of my wife this year.

My gifts were nearly all Tennessee based. Two still haven't arrived: The Peyton Manning autographed football and the UT backpack, though both should arrive by the time I have to go back to Chicago.

Five UT tee shirts and a pair of UT gym shorts. Two jerseys, one with my name on it (my favorite gift, I think). Two windbreakers and one set of pants for them. I also got some UT pajama pants and a UT hooded sweatshirt.

Four UT pillows. One's a body pillow, and the other three are more like couch pillows, I think. Two UT snow globes; one of which plays Rocky Top. A cherished teddyish UT bear figurine. The snow globes and figurine I can't quite figure out why I got, but I'm sure they'll be displayed in our computer room from now on.

A miniature Neyland...probably my least favorite gift. It is incredibly small and really doesn't look like Neyland to me. Better than nothing, I suppose. Two UT hats a beanie, which I had been wanting for over a year. A UT bottle opener, two license plate covers, two UT antenna balls, a UT license plate, and a UT keychain.

Two UT chip/dip bowls, one in the shape of a helmet. A set of UT coasters, a UT trashcan, floormat, and a pair of UT handsoap and lotion dispensers.

I also got a nice UT watch and two fleece blankets; one UT, one the North County Raiders...my high school and the name of my hattrick team. For the first time ever, I have UT socks. I got two pair of them.

The Gridiron cards I mentioned in a previous thread were also a gift. I also received 6 packs of ESPN/Upper Deck cards, of which I don't know their value. I do know I got a Peyton Manning card, so that made my world go round.

My wife was also thinking of me in regular clothing, and bought me three sets of clothes. I can't remember the last time I actually was happy to get clothes, but this year I was. Nearly all of my pants don't fit me...they're either too big (34) or too small (30).

I also got a UT gymbag and a UT travel case, which can also act as a cooler.

I also got two workout supplements, which were right in time. I was running out of both.

All of the gifts above were from my wife and her dad, with her dad contributing about 10% of it.

I got a keychain from my niece stating I'm her #1 uncle, which is by default. It's supposed to have a red light to it and sometimes it even works.

Danielle's mom gave me 75 dollars and chocolate candy. I'm not much of a chocolate candy person, and I've tried to explain that to her. I'm more of a Runts and Bottle Caps type guy. I guess some things will never change.

Danielle's grandparents, and her dad's side of aunts and uncles buy me gifts as well. I got a set of six pocket knives and a hunting knife. I've never owned a pocket knife or a hunting knife in my life. Don't know what to make of it, other than they're all into a hunting kick. Maybe they want me to join in on it. I also got 100 in money or gift cards from them as well.

Later this morning we'll be heading down to Arkansas with the pets in tow. That's kind of a gift as well. I've managed to get down there each of the past three years, and it's starting to be tradition. I've got a large assortment of family down there, but I just go down to see my Uncle James and his family.

I forgot a few other UT things...stuff I didn't receive exactly. My wife got a UT outfit of her own (her first ever) and my pug Snuggles got a UT collar and leash, and a UT cap as well.

Umm, forgive my cooking ignorance, but is that what it sounds like?

Let's see...

A new iPod
The Coach purse I've been lusting after for months, and the matching wallet (can't forget that. they must coordinate)
A flashlight
A lazer level
Pens (I'm a total pen whore)
And a few items that will land me on the naughty list for Christmas 2006 ;)

Yeah - it is! I collect frogs (they are all over the house) and my mom got me this cool baking dish from Sur La Table that has a frog face and legs on it...it sounds stupid, but it's cool...you can use it in the oven or on a gas stove :)

Congrats on the purse and wallet...which one is it? Oh, I am a pen whore too - I love all the different colored ones and usually have about 8 or 10 pens rolling around in the bottom of my purse :)

I didn't get much in terms of gift as I sort of made it known that money would be welcome. See, on my birthday I set this piggy bank in which I told everyone I'd be putting money to replace our 20 year old 19" TV in the living room. Well, my parents gave me/us $60 and my sister (and her husband) gave us $100. On top of that, I got:

- a couple of Homer boxer shorts
- a workbench for the basement
- slippers from my wife (the older stunk like you wouldn't believe :D)
- a bo staff

Best of all though was that my sister gave my oldest son a Gamecube and I will be enjoying it quite a bit ;) I bought myself the earliest Need For Speed Underground and I gotta say I had fun with it after Andrew went to bed last night, not even counting the good times playing Qui Gon Jin with him in the Lego Star Wars game we gave him :)

We'll probably go shopping for the new TV at some point in the Holiday break. Looking to get a pretty simple flat screen 27 incher, something like a JVC or Toshiba should do the trick :) That will be my big gift of this Christmas...

Man, I didn't know you like Utah so much :p ;)

At walmart down here, you can get a 27" TV for about 180 dollars US. That is what I got my dad, a 27" flatscreen TV. You can get a 32" TV for about 220$. Not a flatscreen though.

they do have a flatscreen from Sharp at $299cdn at our local Walmart but I'm looking into a bit better quality, hence the JVC mention.

Here's the one I've had my eyes on for a little while:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7045949&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03003&id=1099397015367

A 27 incher from JVC that goes for about $379cdn around here...

We got one requirement though, to fit in our TV unit, it has to be less than 30.5 inches wide and that can limit severely the choices in 27" tvs...

Well, you can right click it and save it. Then you could put it on a server, if you don't have one something like photobucket.com is a good free place to save pictures. Then you just link to the image when you want it. Photobucket.com gies you the various links you may use under each picture you have saved, that makes it pretty easy.

I was on the road on Thanksgiving and had the chance to listen to a show on Howard Stern's Sirius channel, Thanksgiving with the Cristies. It is the family of a guy who works for him.

They live in rural Kansas and they ate frog, squirrel, catfish, and venison chops. They were some odd folks.

hehe, the gamecube won't go on that one although kiddo will get an upgrade from the 13" he is on right now to the 19" we have in the living room :D

As for the higher quality question, the ones we're looking at are the flat screens, JVC, Toshiba and the likes and look to be around the best non-HD 27" around so I don't think we'll go much better than that. I don't plan on getting an HD TV...

a better picture than what? your TV?

Ours won't be hard to beat. First, the digital TV receiver is connected to it through coaxial cable, not AV cables. From what I was told, we lose some quality there, then the DVD player is also going through some sort of modulator to make it go from the AV output to a coaxial cable into the TV... I tell ya, our TV in the living room should have been changed years ago, but well, other expenses came first...

The 19 incher will make a nice TV for my basement playroom once the basement is all finished, at some point late in the Spring :)

well, we spent that whole $625 and more yesterday. The DVD recorder while without a hard drive, can record on DVD-RAM format, which sounded nice enough...

sure hope so but we've had very good luck with our JVC purchases in the past. Our current VCR is a JVC and it's now some 10 years old.

Hopefully the fact that it's only a DVD recorder and not a combo unit will mean it's tougher.

As i said, our VCR and now TV and DVD recorder are all JVC. This means that every remote controls something on one of the other items, pretty neat and well integrated...
