Oh did I make a typo?

Seriously though, just closed on our first house today! Now, the monumental task of moving our pile of stuff from one place to another.

Congrats on the first house. I had a question in general about buying a house. How can I estimate closing costs on a house, rough estimate ie $5,000 on every $100,000 of house price or a % of house price?

Well it's only 1100 sq ft. Nothing major. Still if I can get pics, you'll be welcome to them. Actually, you've just given me a great idea for what to do with the little bit of spending money I just happened upon tonight (digital camera).

That's good for you, it's not everyday someone can come out of the closet. I mean purchase something that has closets.

congratulations, welcome to the world of people on their own who can't complain to the landlord when there's a leaky faucet :)

Well, it's also the world of people who can start doing their laundry at 2 am or let their kids run and walk as loudly as they want at 5 am without fear of annoying a neighbor. And that my friend, to me at least, has no price :)

Totally, totally agree! I'm so sick of neighbors complaining of the "bass" sound coming from our alarm clock... how ridiculous is that?

We will soon join the club I'm sure!

congrats.

new or used?

I only ask because you might not want to spend that money if it's new....got lots of stuff to use it on like #1 blinds for all the windows.

Closing costs can vary quite a bit by state and county. Some counties have a transfer tax the buyer actually pays rather than the seller. The cost of title insurance and the closing fee varies very much by state. With that said if you dont pay any points the fees i charge in Illinois are about $1250 which includes underwriting. processing and the appraisal. Whoever you talk to about a loan will give you a good faith estimate which should give you a good idea of costs.

Don't knock your new house man, you know you love it. And my mom's house is 650 sq. ft. so I bet it's a mansion compared to that.

Congrats. It's a good feeling.

Man, local.live.com has added a birdseye view feature for a lot of areas, including where I live, so I can view my neighborhood from the sky from any of the four cardinal directions. So I remembered this thread where people wanted pictures of my house. Well, here it is. It looks a little different now (there is a tree in both the front and back yard now and we painted the shutters burgundy and added flowers and seeded the lawn a bit), but this is basically it. We still love it.
