Not surprising and definitely justifiable, but I did like him as head coach and think he could have done better with more support from previous ownership.

I'm just hoping Jim Fassel doesn't end up the next coach. Seems to be the odds on favorite right now.

What about Greg Williams? This team can definately use more of a defensive minded coach.

I agree with the firing of Tice. He seems like a nice guy, but he could use some more seasoning. He seems to be more of a players coach, and might be just better suited for a position/coordinator position.

I'd rather have Williams than Fassel, and considering we have his old defensive coordinator from Buffalo, it would help with the continuity.

Damn, as a Packer fan I liked Tice in Minnesota. He always gave us the division title at the end of the year.

I did think he was a good guy though, he was pretty entertaining to listen to when he talked to the press. Sherman is pretty 'blah' in that way.

If they make the sex boat a regular team function, it sounds like a job for Mike Price.

Super Bowl appearances:

Tice: 0
Fassel: 1

Fassel is an UPGRADE from Tice.

Gregg Williams? He sucked balls in Buffalo, why would anyone want him?

He's been great in turning Washington's D into one of the better units in the league. You're right, he sucked in Buffalo, but I'm sure as you are aware, its not always the coaches fault 100% of the time. Minnesota has signficantly more talent than Buffalo, so in todays day and age of recycled NFL coaches, its more of a "Sure, why not him" than "him because of x y and z".

His offense did most the time but his defense was actually pretty good even in Buffalo.

The only reason Tice never made a Super Bowl appearence is cause he sold his tickets.

But seriously, they really need someone less laid back and more in your face. Tice and Fassel have alot of coaching similiarities, and the Vikings need a significant change.

This was as fast as I've ever heard of a firing. Did they let Tice into the locker room?

I don't know if he wants the job, or if the job wants him (I'm guessing not), but I think Tice would do a great job at the University of Minnesota.

Isn't Greg Williams the guy that benched Flutie in favor of Johnson right after Flutie got the Bills in the playoffs?

that's funny.

They probably do need a task master. There aren't too many of those available this year.

Would Vikes fans choose Martz when he gets axed tomorrow?

It was kind of shitty to not have a press conference. The team got a press release or something. Wasn't listening to local radio but I don't think they handled it the best they could.

No matter how much of a dumbass I think Tice is, he should have had the dignity of having an official announcement.

Gregg Williams? He sucked balls in Buffalo, why would anyone want him?And if the Patriots had used prior head coaching success of a successful defensive coordinator before offering their job to Bill Belichek maybe they wouldn't have won 3 Super Bowls ;).

Marv Levy has been wanting to rejoin the NFL head coaching ranks for a while.

I would imagine that Ray Handley isn't doing much these days. If ever a coach went invisible after losing his job, it was that guy. Somebody's got to find him and offer him the Minnesota job. It'd be great! How about Rich Kotite? He can't be too busy. Maybe the Vikings can buy out Mouse Davis' contract with Hawaii and bring him in. Let's get the run-and-shoot back into the NFL. Oh, the possibilities!

I should not be awake at this hour.

Both of these coaches are locked up in long term contracts with their respective colleges.

Which means absolutely nothing if they walk away. Locked up is hardly an accurate term.

Just heard this morning that Tice was the one who ok'd the press release to be...released as fast as it was. The front office asked mike if they should wait til today to announce it. he said he wanted them to announce after he found out (after most of the players and staff left).

oh, and dola...

Radio was saying that they are bringing in somebody from the eagles for the front office. Player personnel guy, forgot his name.

Anyway, they were saying that he might be trying to grad Childress as well for a coaching candidate. They also said that since the Packers are probably gonna be firing Sherman (according to a source) they would be trying to get Childress too.

Tice said the first thing he had to do when he found out was immediately call his wife ( who was in the parking lot ) on the cell because he was afraid a reporter was going to tell her first and she'd have to give a statement. He said he wanted to tell her in person but oh well. That my friend is an entirely classless way to let a man go, especially after a division win.

In the interview I saw yesterday he said he would have liked more time but that he had told them to let him know as soon as possible and he guessed they took that literally. He may have amended that statement today however.
