Querying Firefox volunteers:

If you open Adblock at the bottom of your browser window and under the "New Filter" dialog add "http:*.js", does it kill your banner ads?

Warning: it will also kill your forum style apparently (if you're not already using the default vBulletin style), as well as killing javascripts everywhere else you may visit on the web. I'm hoping to refine this so it only effects FOFC (or gamespy sites), but I need some "other than me" proof of concept first.

And yes, I know I could do this by just disabling java, but I don't want to go that far yet. I'm trying to code some targeted java killers into my browser.

That seems like a drastic move to kill banner ads. It seems like most of them come from their own domain, so I just wildcard adblock those domains. I very rarely see an add, and add any I see to the block list.

Yeah, it's a bit extreme, but what I'm hoping to find at the moment is the "unintended consequences" of this method. As I learn more consequences, I can refine my One Size Fits All block.

Um I have never seen a banner ad on this site. I'm using AdBlock + as well as the Filterset G.updater.

All my java works fine on the site.

And just for FYI.

NoScript extension is your friend.
Yeah I use that as well.

Yeah, Daim. I'm learning that Adblock is a pretty all-or-nothing solution. Methinks it needs a bit more scripting flexibility.

I like AdBlock well enough... it does a great job targetting specific ad hosting sites and I use it to catch the banner ads. NoScript is sweet... it will block javascript on a site by site basis and eliminates click through ads. I've been javascript free on this forum for months and I can verify this site is perfectly usable without javascript.... if there is every anything that does need jscript, NoScript allows you to temporarily allow it for a specific site until the end of the session. I *highly* reccomend NoScript... you really don't want to be browsing the general internet with javascript enabled anymore.
