I've searched some of the prior posts, and I'm not quite sure about the active/inactive status of the players.
The mentor has to be on the active list to contribute to the other players' ratings, right? But, what about the other players? Do they have to be on the active list to benefit from the mentor's contribution?
Thanks.

I believe that both players (the mentor and the year 1-3 subject) must be active, according to some studies posted here by cthomer. As I recall, active works, inactive doesn't, and injured reserve remains unknown.

I believe that the player being mentored not only has to be active, but playing as well.

I thought only guys in year 1 or 2 could be mentored.
Actually, mentoring has an effect the first three seasons according to the research referred to above.

Guys in years 1,2,3 can be mentored. Or at least mentored in the "will develop faster" aspect. (We still have no idea about the on-field effects of mentors).
Both the player and the mentor must be active, it doesn't seem to matter if they are in the actual lineup though. I'd still recommend playing the young guy if possible though, since players develop much faster with playing time.

The player card only.
