OK,

You all helped me out before in the previous thread and I truly appreciate it. I am not one to job hop, but this one also fell into my lap...

A former co-worker of mine from when I was at Macromedia contacted me today, and I talked to him a bit about the job he is doing, he asked if it was something I would enjoy doing.

This is my dream job, it is the closest thing to what I did for Macromedia out there and to top it of, one of my favorite supervisors from Macromedia is the owner of the company.

Well, I end up talking to him, and turn around and talk to the guy in charge of highering and I am made an offer immediately, this all happens in about 12 hours.

The dilemna is this....granted this is my dream job and a considerable pay raise I am torn...I am Director of IT at the company I am at (thanks to the help). Title/prestige of title, I step down a notch, but the company I am at is a Utah based company and they tend to use and abuse employees....and to be honest, I was handed a pile of shit for an IT Department (Development is outsourced to India, I am trying to bring it back in house, I am picking up the pieces of my predecessor). However, they took a shot with me....so my loyalty is still there.

Now the hard part....How do I position myself to my current company to give them a chance to match the offer without them looking like I am trying to strong arm them into something, If they can't match, I want to leave on good terms, which I should be able to do.

Let me end by saying, again, I wasn't looking, but through networking, this thing fell in my lap.

be honest with the supervisor and let him try to beat the offer....dream job = something. If he cant put in two weeks.

Supervisor = COO/CEO

Honesty is of course going to be there....I am just nervous as hell of getting them upset.

Main reason being, I have a technology initiative to get stuff done in the next 45 to 60 days. And I don't want them to get pissed for me leaving in the middle of this....

Sorry, but a dream job is adream job and it comes by once in a lifetime. No one with any credibility or integrity will hold that against you. Don't ask your current emplyer to match the salary, hand them your resignation letter. Even with similar salaries, your description makes it sound like the job being offered has much much more to offer, so salary shouldn't be the main consideration.

In 6 months, if you stay, no matter how much miney you're making, you are going to HATE yourself for not following your heart.

Dola,

The ironic/funny thing.....

This is the second time I will have done this to this particular CEO...

The first is when I was Senior Multimedia Developer with his company and left to go to Macromedia.

isn't this a triple dola!

Well, the comapny didn't want to try and counter, here in Utah, for the salary they would have to bring me up to, they could find someone better.

So I am a road dog again, I will be in the GA/FL areas from the 21st of Jan up till the end of Feb.

Woot! I have my dream job....

I'm happy for you bud. Does this mean permanent move to Florida or still in Utah?

Nope, I am still in Utah...Just back out on the road again....a bit more grueling schedule, but I am home more than I was with Macromedia.

With Macromedia I was basically gone late Sunday until Late Friday, spent Saturday with my family.

With this one, my schedule for the year is as such.

5 Weeks out
2 Weeks home
5 Weeks out
5 Weeks home
4 Weeks out (I am solo here, and able to bring my family, we will tour GA and FL for a month)
15 Weeks home
6 weeks out
Then I am home from Thanksgiving to the new year.

Wife is fine with it, it will be rough with the young guy, but it puts me back on track for my family and financial goals.

Congrats! :)

Sounds like a bit of a tough schedule, but being a dream job should make up for a lot of that. Glad that your wife is okay with it -- that helps. :)
