Hint one:

A Super Bowl winning Quarterback.

Hint two:

Flight from Cincinnati - Cleveland

If you guessed --------

Trent Dilfer

YOU WIN!!!!!

I said to him as he was trying to exit unnoticed, "See ya Trent." To which he looked up and said, "Bye." It was funny watching him trying really hard not to be noticed.

He officially passes Michael Chang as most famous athlete that I have carried.

That is all.

Sorry. I couldn't help myself... I actually like Dilfer too!

Trent got a little whiny when they decided to start Charlie Frye over him.

Personally, I'd be more excited about carrying Michael Chang, he always seemed like a good guy.

I flew from Atlanta to Augusta, GA with Ray Knight (Nancy Lopez picked him up at airport and I met both), from Cincinnati to Newark with Chris Collinsworth, from Las Vegas to Cincinnati with the UC basketball team, from New Orleans to Houston with the Tulane basketball team (when they were good), and finally from La Guardia to Atlanta with Bernadette Peters (she fell into me on the train while switching terminals.... smoking hot... can't believe she's as old as is reported). I was on a flight with Randy Pfund out of OKC a few years back. I noticed him becuase of the giant NBA Championship ring on his finger, but didn't realize who it was until his ticket was run through the scanner just before mine and his last name popped up. IIRC, he was GM of the Heat at the time, but he was flying coach just a few rows ahead of me.

I also met Jim Harrick at the airport in Pittsburgh.

I flew to Tampa a few years ago for the NHL All-Star game and Jaromir Jagr and Martin Straka got on the plane when we stopped in Pittsburgh. Jagr sat behind me. I was wearing a Sens jersey, and Straka (a former Senator) gave me a really funny look.

A year or so later, my wife and I flew to Scranton PA and changed planes in Philadelphia. Saw Franco Harris waiting in the terminal for his flight to State College.

so, I guess the moral of the story is change planes in Pennsylvania.

I see Trent Dilfer around town quite a bit. Numerous baseball games...his seats are just a few rows behind mine, and actually at the Theatre once with his wife.

I've always felt he was a class act, and by most all accounts he has the respect of everyone in the locker room.

3 or 4 years ago, I was out of school for a while and got a sweet gig doing "security" for the suite level at the Lowes Motor Speedway during the races. Basically, we just stood at the stairwell occassionally. Anyway, I went to take a piss, and on the way back I see this tall, wide dude standing outside of the (I think) Coca Cola box. I get closer and I'm thinking "dang, that guy looks just like Troy Aikman." He's by himself, looks like he's waiting for someone else to come out. When I walk by him I kind of nod and say hey, he nods back. Because my brain wasn't at all on the lookout for any sort of celebrity (I live 20 minutes from there, and probably wouldn't recognize the nascar famous) it wasn't until the second that I passed him that my brain finally realized that it was, in fact, Troy Aikman.

Their manager hooked us up with tickets for the show in SPI. We also took pictures with them. Overall, pretty cool experience.

Jason Giambi (pre-roids blow up)

and when I say hob-nob, I got to talk to them, take pictues, get autographs, eat lunch, etc. I played blackjack for a few hours with Jeff Reardon and got to chat for a long time with Jason Giambi and his girlfriend on a shore excursion (this was after his MVP year with the A's - he said he loved playing there and would never leave for a NY or LA  )

Sat right next to and talked with Christian Laettner from Washington-Dulles to Charlotte. It was back when he was playing with the Wizards. I got up the nerve to talk to him after his wife (who is SMOKING hot) fell asleep next to me. He was a good guy and not what I was expecting. He talked about how he wished that he could have stayed in Minnesota to play with KG (he also met his wife there) and that Kwame Brown was not much of a ball player (I believe his words were a little stronger than that).

It just happened to be that I was on my way to Atlanta to the ill-fated .400 Developers conference where I met Markus, Andreas, Arlie Raht and the infamous Joe Stallings. Ah, good times.

Sounds like a pretty kickass wife you have to arrange that cruise for you :)You're not kidding! And to give you a little more perspective -- she was planning on keeping this a secret until we were actually on the cruise, and then presumably I'd bump into Dave Winfield and shit myself in surprise. However, she knew how important it would be to me to be able to collect autographs, so she broke the secret a few days in advance allowing me to run down to the local Mega-Sports-Mart and load up on supplies - a few dozen baseballs, a dozen caps, some jerseys, a few bats. It was an autograph hound's dream come true.

Huh - guess I never shared my brush with celebrity here in this thread. Warning - they are soccer players, so most of you probably will laugh.

This was way back in 2000. I was working at Starbucks in my hometown of Wellesley. Well one night I'm standing there working and I see this guy walking by me to use the bathroom and I'm thinking "Hey that guy looks amazingly like John Harkes if Harkes lost like 10 pounds." But I only got a brief profile shot of him. So I repositioned myself and when he came out of the bathroom I got a great look, and it was indeed John Harkes. I said something to him like "Hey...you're John Harkes aren't you?" He said yeah, I said nice to meet you...etc. He said "Hey...if you're a fan, come on outside, there's somebody you'll want to meet." So I go outside with him, and sitting out in front of the store having a coffee with him is none other than Eric Wynalda!!

So I stood out there and shot the shit with them a bit about the USMNT and the upcoming NE Revolution season, and got autographs from both of them. Couple of class acts.

My brother was having lunch at the local fast-food Mexican place here in town last year on an early-release day from school along with about 100 other kids when Kevin Youkilis came in to pickup an order of burritos for the team (he lives a town over). He ended up staying for over an hour signing autographs.

Oh, and one of our clients is John Cena's Uncle.

Probably not really. I mean these guys are at least aware of fantasy football - you just sort of couch it in those terms, or in terms of like Madden.

"So I play this stat-freak's version of a football game - like Madden kind-of. And in my multiplayer league you're the QB of my team and you led us to the championship."

*shrugs* I don't see how that's any worse than all the fantasy-football-fanboys they undoubtedly get assaulted with.

I blew off a girl (I'll spare the name) who I saw on MTV years later--minor celeb, big name indie, but minor overall. She was intimidating intellectually and even more so talent-wise (I'm a musician myself) and undoubtedly way too much woman for me, but the fact that I could have potentially been one of her "fuck you" songs haunts me to this day. Who knows? Maybe I was. I did walk out on one of her sets after promising to help her load up and let her buy me drinks.

Other than her, I've met, among others, Billy Joel (very cool), Dave Matthews (trying to be invisible), James Taylor (the fucking man, albeit a strange one) and King Kong Bundy, who was coll enough to play video games with me in a hotel in Fla. right after he jobbed to Hogan at one of the mid 80's Wrestlemanias. It was the one that they fought in that weird blue steel cage. And I went to middle school with Joey MacIntyre from NKOTB. He was a whiney bitch and used to cheat at schoolyard games. Years later, after he was who he was, a friend of mine beat his ass senseless for calling his girl the "n" word. Serves him right..."god" must've been watching those freeze tag games. ;)

The only celebrity I've seen near a plane was Franco Harris (who was mentioned years ago earlier in this thread). He had just arrived in Pittsburgh on the same plane that I was leaving on. The most interesting thing about that (to me, anyway) is that there is a life-size statue of Franco Harris making the Immaculate Reception in the Pittsburgh airport. You have to walk past that statue to get into or out of the terminal, so it must've been quite a sight for anyone who saw him near the statue as he was leaving.

Bob Feller
Jack Morris
Vida Blue
Jeff Reardon (pre-arrest)
Tony Oliva
Enos Slaughter
Jason Giambi (pre-roids blow up)
Brooks Robinson
Earl Weaver (pre-dead)
Mickey Lolich
and a collection of scrubs like Benny Agbayani and Kelly Wunsch

and when I say hob-nob, I got to talk to them, take pictues, get autographs, eat lunch, etc. I played blackjack for a few hours with Jeff Reardon and got to chat for a long time with Jason Giambi and his girlfriend on a shore excursion (this was after his MVP year with the A's - he said he loved playing there and would never leave for a NY or LA  )

My wife constantly mixes up "In" and "On" but I always assumed it was because she was first a Spanish speaker and English is a second language for her. (Just to be clear, she is fluent in English and probably speaks it better than I do, just mixes up In and On all of the time)

As a kid I once flew a SF to DC plane with Joe Theisman. What's funny is, my uncle, who was a huge Giants fan, was picking me up at the airport. This was back when you could wait at the gate for people to come off the plane, and he said it took every ounce of will in his body to not yell out "Look out for Lawrence Taylor!"

So I'm at LGA yesterday and I'm doing pilot stuff up front with my headset on and talking to ATC and notice that some woman (I assume ground personnel at this point because I'm busy) and I go back to work. Then I get a tap, tap, tap on my shoulder, and a "Hey, Hey", and I proceed to turn around and give this woman a horrible, "why the fuck are you bothering me look" and ignore here. She then proceeds to say, "Hi, it's Liza." And I'm like uhhh, ok, casue I have no idea who she is at this point. So I realize she is still talking to me and she says, "Liza Minnelli". That got my attention, lol, and I proceeded to shake her hand. So yeah, I was rude to Liza Minnelli. The guy I was flying with just laughed because he was just watching all this unfold and he said the look on my face was priceless.

I didn't recognize her because she looked like this:

It wasn't on my plane per se, but on a flight I was about to get on. I had a nice long chat with Neil Rackers today. He was on his way to Cincy to kick for the Bengals tomorrow along with Billy Cundiff. Supposedly, Nugent got hurt today, and might be out for quite a while.

He talked about a bunch of stuff from the Super Bowl against the Steelers, to comments that he and Santonio Holmes exchanged later on, to playing for Mike Brown, to Kurt Warner, special needs kids and foundations and his bar fight in Covington when he was with the Bengals. We didn't end up talking all football, we got to talking about careers and my job and kids as well. We're both the same age, so I think that played a lot into the conversation too. I'd much rather chat and have a handshake with a guy, then chase someone around for autographs and photos.

Well guys, this isn't about who I carried on my plane, but about who I'm carrying going forward. After more than 6 years on the 737; and 16 years doing nothing but North/Central American and the Carribbean, I am switching planes. All of you who thought you might catch me from Newark to Orlando, or Chicago to Seattle are going to be out of luck. Now you're going to have to take a trip to China, Japan, Brazil, or India to catch me. It's a nice little pay raise and even though I'm still an FO, it's just one step away from making Captain, which should happen sometime in the next few years, or sooner, if I just don't like the wide body international.

So I'll be in training from the middle of November until the end of the year with a new type rating in my pocket when I'm done.

I didn't think that I would have an update in this thread, but today proved me wrong. Today, I took Corey Booker from Denver to LA.

I got a chance to talk with him for a couple minutes and he took a photo with me after I sent him a note that I was a supporter of his. He also happens to be a super special level passenger with my company.

He wasn't going to have time to chat, because he had to run, so he made a 30 second video for me while we were enroute. But the gate agent took 5 minutes to get the bridge up to the plane. It was a great experience otherwise. I wish he was higher up in the polls.

I'd say yes and no. Because it's not about whether or not they are famous it's about their status within the company programs. So we get a list of the Super Duper Special (SDS) passengers who are on board (and that's how I knew he was on), but if they aren't SDS Passengers I wouldn't have any idea unless I saw them. On the ground there's another employee group that makes sure they are looked after and provide extra services should they need them. But it's all about status, not "who" they are, so to speak.

Just remember. Push for managed mode, pull for selected mode.

And the up/down arrows in the FMC are stupid and backwards, and whoever came up with that idea should be thoroughly smacked.

The fact that you remember this and want more of it is very flattering. I was really irritated when Photobucket stopped free hosting on their site. I will have to think about it for sure. Because there's a whole lot different about the way this fleet operates than the last one, but thank you very much.

Thank you for all the congrats guys! I mean, it's been 20 years since I got my private pilots license. This is definitely one very close step to the top of the mountain, and the pay raise that I just got (no good kids gonna steal it all for themselves, I just know it) looks mighty fine. As a reward I've got a YT of my flight ripping through the Vegas Strip. It was fun. I'll keep this up for a couple weeks and then plan to take it back down. Please don't share it outside this group. Thanks

Was on a flight this week. Pilot announced a solider escorting remains and for us to let that soldier de-plane first when we landed. I've had that occur before but the pilot went on to say the remains were from WW2. Sad and cool at the same time.

I actually did get an old friend of mine from HS, that I hadn't seen in 25ish years, in. We were in CAP together back in the day, and he's a LtC. in the Air Force in the Springs area. He came up and went though an entire day with me. So, technically, yes? But it's so rare that it actually works out. Like really, really rare. That was a good time though.

It was a trip going over the pole last night. Got up to 82N, so not quite over the top, but plenty far north. You're pretty much completely on your own up there and it's quiet. I had training to do so we kept busy, but you're right, two crews to swap out. We had two breaks, the longest I was in the seat was about 3.5 hours at a time. A lot less than the long hauls I made on the 737. The flight was just over 13 hours all together.

So making sure the airplane is still in communication with who you're supposed to be. Making sure the Russians know who and where you are, so they don't get squirrelly. Check position and fuel all the time. Watch the stars, think about life. Normal stuff.

Flying home from New Orleans on Tuesday morning, via Tampa, on Southwest.

On NOLA to Tampa leg, my plane had:

Tony Dungy
Booger McFarland

and Clemson players:
Gage Cervenka
Sean Pollard
Diondre Overton

Last 3 were on their way to the East/West Shrine Game in Tampa coming up this weekend.

Also ran across CJ Spiller in the airport and my wife chatted him up for about 5 minutes. It was 5:30 AM, but he was as nice as could be.

Edward64

I've never had a body odor situation while flying and these guys look okay pic wise. I doubt it was religious discrimination and would a pilot actually initiate this or other cabin crew?

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/31/us/american-airlines-discrimination-lawsuit-jewish-trnd/index.html
A Michigan couple is suing American Airlines for discrimination, alleging in a lawsuit that an airline agent kicked them off a flight for what the employee said was "extremely offensive body odor" and told them he knew that "Orthodox Jews take baths once a week."

Yehuda Yosef Adler and Jennie Adler say in the lawsuit they do not have offensive body odor. They are accusing the airline of discriminating against them because of their religion and defaming them, and say that they experienced embarrassment and humiliation and defamation because of the incident last year.

In January 2019, the couple, along with their 19-month-old daughter, boarded an American Airlines flight from Miami to Detroit. Within five minutes of taking their seats, the couple was approached by an agent who told them that they needed to deplane because there was an emergency, according to a lawsuit filed January 28 with the District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Once the couple stepped off the plane, the agent told them that the pilot had booted them because they had "extremely offensive body odor," the lawsuit said. The couple said they were shocked because they had never received complaints about their body odor on flights, and that they had showered that morning, the lawsuit said.

This is taken from a cursory google search. The issue likely started with a passenger complaint.

Can airlines kick someone off for body odor? Actually, yes. “Most airlines have rules in their 'contracts of carriage' that allow an airline to remove a passenger if the stench is so bad that other travelers could potentially become sickened by the odor,” says David Reischer, attorney and CEO for LegalAdvice.com

I carried nobody. Not one soul. Just got back from Rome with a plane capable of carrying 300 passengers, and since it was a cargo only leg, it was empty, only pilots (4). Nothing makes you feel more like a king than having all those empty seats at your disposal. A very unique experience.

Thank you! Yes it's been since last February. Since then I went non-qualified, was kicked off the plane, told I would have to bid a different plane than initially chosen, then allowed back on the plane, but in a new base. Then sent to training and given 1 day before a check ride and said fuck that, but I did make it after only one extra day and now I am officially legal to fly again. Happy to still be on the 777 after all that.

No music, the PA doesn't have Sirius XM or anything like that. It would've been Learning To Fly by the Foos though.

Finally, all the peanuts you want!

If they gave us unlimited snacks, or peanuts, yeah, but it's seriously stripped down right now. I think I did eat a few bags of chips though.

Or a chance to invite some others for a mile-high orgy?

I was telling my wife this last night that I could literally fuck anywhere in that plane, from the galleys, to the seats, to the crew rest bunks, pilot or FA, didn't matter. I had an entire section of pods to myself watching Wolf of Wallstreet coming back on my break. Which was funny, because that's exactly what's in the movie.

Yeah, I don't think anyone wants to see that right now.

Actually, the flight is catered just for the crew on board. We have different meals than the rest of the plane, and we have the option to special meals that might be different than the standard beef/chicken meals, like an Indian meal, or Kosher, or Salad meal as examples. A flight to Rome would have two meals boarded for us. There are also sometimes the standard snacks that first class might have on board, from chips, gummy bears, or snack boxes. I tend to eat way more junk than I should as a way to kill time, so that's not good.

In Rome though, I had a meal with the crew consisting of all the Italian classics of red wine, bread with olive oil, meat and cheese tray and spaghetti with meat sauce. I had a piece of pizza for lunch/breakfast (if you're counting me being on east coast time) before we left again.

You have bunks?!?!?

Yep, the type depend on the variant of aircraft, only the 777 and 787 in our fleets have true bunks for flight crew. They can vary from feeling a bit like a coffin to feeling like a much bigger and more comfy coffin. My 5 yr old self would have never wanted to leave as they feel a bit like a fort. We have boarded sheets, blankets and pillows too for each crew member to use. They also block one of the seats in business class on certain routes as well so crews have an option to use that too.

It was good to get back to it and knock a new destination off my list, but the really weird thing about going to Rome is that Americans aren't even allowed there yet because of Covid. So tourism is way down, and I'm sure we stuck out like sore thumbs.

Yes, you're correct, there is a 12 hour restriction, but we had a 24 hour layover. So there was plenty of time to have a drink.

The answer is nobody. This year I've only carried passengers to Houston and Honolulu. Every other flight I've done this year has been cargo only. I gotta say, having an empty 777 to fly around the world with no passengers, no flight attendants and all the first class seats in the plane to yourself, all the sleeping bunks is a certain sort of oddity that is unlikely to be repeated in the future, and it's spoiling the shit out of me.
