Colton Mayes: Colton Mayes, a 6'1", 175 lbs 14 year old center from Chesterfield, Missouri, is presently playing Midget Major Hockey for Team Illinois, one of the premier AAA teams in America. Presently, Mayes is pursuing his dream of play NCAA hockey, but with his size and talents as a 14 year old, it's very possible he could see himself drafted when he turns 18, and never look back.
Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner, a 6'1", 180 lbs 14 yearold defensemen from Columbus, Ohio is playing Midget Major Hockey for the Cleveland AAA Barons. Turner is another American kid who is dreaming about playing in the NCAA. He is a physical presence on the point, and is already touted as one of the premier enforcers as a 14 year old. The sick thing is he still has several years left to grow.
Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter, a 5'11", 172 lbs right winger is playing High School Hockey for the Govenor Dummer Govenors. Hunter is a smooth skating winger who makes plays offensivley, but has work to do defensivley. His linemate Tyler Sabens is ranked 21st in the QMJHL Preliminary Draft rankings, but unlike Sabens, Hunter would much rather play NCAA hockey.
Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann, a 5'9, 164 lbs right winger is playing High School Hockey for Richfield. Ertmann is a speed demon with good moves and a great release on his wrist shot. Teammates sometimes complain that he isn't the best distributor, but when the cards are down they rely on Ertmann to make things happen offensivley, just don't expect him to play much defense. He is another kid looking forward to a life in the NCAA.
Rob Nielsen: Rob Nielsen, a 5'8", 154 lbs 13 year old center is playing AAA Hockey for the Las Vegas Outlaws. Nielsen relies on his high hockey IQ to always keep him in the play, and a lethal wrist shot to put the puck in the net. At 13 he is still very shy in the corners but with devlopment physically will be a great asset for any team. Rob wants to play Junior Major Hockey, and it just so happens he is the pre-season #1 ranked player in the WHL Bantam Draft.
Pre-Season #1 WHL Bantam Draft
Kevin Thomas: Kevin Thomas, a 6", 174 lbs 14 year old left winger playing with Colton Mayes for Team Illinois. Thomas is an offensive dynamo. Great hands, unreal moves, and he keeps everyone involved. With that said, his defense is sketchy at best, he doesn't lead his teamates and he refuses to play the body. Thomas hopes to play Major Junior Hockey himself.
Ivan Carrillo: Ivan Carrillo, a 6'3", 194 lbs 14 year old defensemen is playing Midget Major Hockey with the South Florida Golden Wolves. Carrillo is a physical specimen with a mean streak like no other. He won't put points up on the scoresheet, but he will put asses on the ice with his punishing physicality and no holds barred intensity. Carrillo is hoping to pursue his dream of playing NCAA Hockey.
Joe Mazeika: Joe Mazeika, a 5'7", 130 lbs 13 year old defensemen is playing High School Hockey for Detroit Catholic Central. Joe, who is intellectually gifted, as well as physically, has moved up from 8th grade to a freshman at the top high school hockey team in Michigan. Though lacking in size, he makes up for it with solid positioning and his great hockey IQ. Mazeika is hoping to play NCAA hockey.
Sean Treacy: Sean Treacy, a 5'8", 165 lbs 13 year old goalie who left his home in Santa Fe, NM, to come to Detroit, MI to play for Honeybaked, the top Midget Major Team in Michigan. Treacy, at 13, shows great maturity and presence, especially under pressure, and is Honeybakeds #1 goalie. Treacy hopes to parlay is current sucess into a career in the NCAA.
Karl Bernal: Kal Bernal, a 5'10", 165 lbs 14 year old right winger from San Jose, CA plays with Rob Nielsen for the Las Vegas Outlaws. Bernal is a kid who doesn't always put the effort in, but when he is on his game he can make plays, and make everyone around him better. Bernal wishes to play Major Junior Hockey, and is actually the pre-season #2 ranked player in the WHL Bantam Draft, behind teammate Rob Nielsen.
Pre-Season #2 WHL Bantam Draft
Mike Ritschel: Mike Ritschel, a 5'11, 175 lbs 14 year old defensemen from Somerset, NJ currently plays for Mount St. Charles, one of the top High School Hockey teams in the USA. Ritschel is a powerful defensemen who plays a strong game on and off the puck. Although he doesn't score much, he makes his presence known in front of the cage at his own end, clearing people out of the net at an incredible rate. Ritschel hopes to pursure a Major Junior career.

Update Through January 1st, 2006
Colton Mayes: Mayes started off his first half of the season on Team Illinois making an immediate impact, notching 17 goals to go along with 31 assists for 48 points. His +/- is a remarkable + 48, largely a part of the offensive fire power of Team Illinois.
Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner has been a rock for the Barons, with 2 goals and 25 assists for 27 points in 28 games. While his offense has been a surprise, his aggression has not. He has 126 PIM, dished out 183 hits and is 8 for 8 in fights, much to no ones surprise. Turner has the makings of a special, special presence on the ice. His +/- is nothing to scoff at either, as he's currently a + 13.
Owen Hunter: Hunter has been big offensivley for the Govenors with 23 goals and 30 assists for 53 points. Defensivley however he is proving to be a liability as many thought he would be early on, with a - 11. He has an astounding 208 shots on goal in 32 games played. As a surprise, Hunter is 2 for 2 in fights.
Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann, playing for Richfield High School is well on his way to record shattering numbers. Ertmann has 46 goals and 18 assists for 64 points, as well as a solid + 8, though that is mostly because Richfield just scores and scores and scores. Forget about passing, because Ertmann has 339 shots on goal in 33 games played.
Rob Nielsen: Playing as a #1 prospect should, Nielsen has 28 goals and 17 assists for 45 points in 27 games played. He is a + 26 and is putting up big in the clutch with 9 of his 28 goals being Game Winners. Nielsen has done nothing to hurt his stock in the WHL Bantam Draft.
Kevin Thomas: Playing with Colton Mayes, Kevin Thomas has been coming up just as clutch, scoring 37 goals and assissting on 22 more for 59 points. His +/- is just as good as Mayes, chiming in at + 47. Together, Mayes and Thomas are putting up claims as two of the top players in the US Hockey System.
Ivan Carrillo: In 28 games, Carrillo has 4 goals and 33 assists for 37 points. More importantly he's a + 38. But beyond that is the game Ivan's known for, his physical game. He has 156 PIM, 153 hits and is 9-1 in fights. He continues to intimidate in front of the South Florida goal and his goalies love him for it.
Joe Mazeika: In 33 games for the top high school team in Michign, Mazeika 7 goals and 34 assists for 41 points. He's enjoying an incredible + 42 and is being considered the best prospect on an already strong CC team. Mazeika is considered a Power Play Godsend with 2 goals and 14 assists coming off the PP. He's doled out 162 hits and has been Mr. Stability on the point. He's showing no fear for a 13 year old Freshman.
Sean Treacy: Sean Treacy has been remarkable in net, but his record doesn't show it. In 27 games, he is 12-9-6, but he has a 1.77 GAA and a .950%. With a little offense, Honeybaked could very well be undefeated with those impressive numbers.
Karl Bernal: Karl Bernal and Rob Nielsen have powered Las Vegas to an impressive start, and both are playing like they're the top two players in the upcoming WHL Draft. Bernal has 28 goals and 22 assists for 50 points in 28 games. Defensivley he's been strong too with a +26. Chances are he'll be playing in the USA for only a few more months.
Mike Ritschel: Mike Ritschel has been surprising people with his offense early on, netting 7 goals and adding 23 assists for 30 points and a + 23. He's been showing his weight on the ice with 273 hits and he's 6 for 7 in fights. A true complement to his game however is the fact he's blocked 64 shots on his own already. He's been coming up in every situation for Mount St. Charles and is being scouted accordingly for it.

2005-06 Year End Review
Colton Mayes: In the 50 game season against some of the top talent in the world, the now 15 year old Mayes flourished with 33 goals and 58 assists for 91 points. Still at a young age, Mayes will have plenty of time playing for Team Illinois, unless he decides to play in the USHL or NAHL.
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 33 G, 58 A, 91 PT, + 89
Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner put up an impressive rookie campaign, registering 4 goals and 40 assists for 44 points. He dished out 373 hits and really got a grips on his physical play with only 175 PIM. Beyond his hits, he was a perfect 12 for 12 in fights, and blocked an impressive 112 shots.
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 4 G, 40 A, 44 PT, + 26
Owen Hunter: In his freshman season in high school, Owen Hunter showed off his offensive talents with 56 goals and 52 assists for 108 points in 60 games. Never the less, Hunter struggled to a - 4 rating, which is remarkable when you consider he was out there for at least 108 goals his team scored. The offense is there, but the defense must continually improve for him to make a true dent.
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 56 G, 52 A, 108 PT, - 4
Dan Ertmann: Ertmann put up a mind boggling 76 goals and 34 assists in his freshman season at Richfield. What could be more mind boggling is the fact that he also racked up an unreal 590 shots, proving the critics right who said he was a selfish player. That said he did put up the points and got his team wins, but if he wants to improve his career perspectives, he'll need to fix his philosophies.
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 76 G, 34 A, 110 PT, + 10
Rob Nielsen: Nielsen lived up to the hype that comes with being the #1 rated draft eligible prospect in the WHL. In 50 games played he had 47 goals and 33 assists while leading one of the most exciting lines in youth hockey alongside Karl Bernal. Nielsen on this day would also find out where he could be playing next year ..
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 47 G, 33 A, 80 PT, + 56
#2 Pick in 2006 WHL Bantam Draft (Swift Current Broncos)
Kevin Thomas: Playing with Colton Mayes helped Thomas raise his potential OHL stock even further as in 50 games he netted an astounding 61 goals to go along with 46 assists for 107 points. People have to wonder if they'll stay together next year or take their interests to an American Junior league.
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 61 G, 46 A, 107 PT, + 88
Ivan Carrillo: Carillo developed an offensive game no one thought he had with 6 goals and 60 assists, but his real presence was his defense. Carrillo had 263 PIM to go along with 265 hits and 175 blocked shots. Not to mention going 13 for 15 in fights, Carrillo was a true warrior on the ice as a 14 year old.
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 6 G, 60 A, 66 PT, + 65
Joe Mazeika: Joe Mazeika had an amazing freshman year at Detroit Catholic Central, racking up 14 goals and 68 assists in 60 games. More impressive was how he threw around his body racking up 267 hits. A just incredible year for such a young player.
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 14 G, 68 A, 82 PT, + 80
Sean Treacy: Sean Treacy's record will never show how impressive he really was. Although he was over .500, it was barely over it, going 19-18-13 in what was an incredibly disappointing year for Honeybaked. Still, Treacy anchored the pipes and kept them in every game they played.
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 19-18-13, 2.01 GAA, .944 save %
Karl Bernal: Bernal was the #2 player eligible for the WHL Bantam Draft before the season started, so he too was living up to the same expecations of teammate Rob Nielsen. And much like Nielsen, Bernal flourished, racking up 54 goals and 34 assists. It wasn't long after the season ended he found out where he'd most likely end up next year..
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 54 G, 34 A, 88 PT, + 52
#1 Pick in 2006 WHL Bantam Draft (Regina Pats)
Mike Ritschel: Mike Ritschel in his freshman year at Mount St. Charles proved to be a force. Offensively he was more then solid racking up 11 goals to go along with 42 assists. Defensivley he was superb with an amazing 551 hits and only 143 PIM. A truly sensational year that left its mark on many kids throughout the east coast.
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 11 G, 42 A, 53 PT, + 41

And dominate. And now I'll dominate the WHL, and pave the way towards world domination. Oh yes.
However, I will never forget my roots. Bernal, you and me will always been teammates. May we spend the offseasons back in Vegas getting shitfaced with the headliners. Until then though...it's ON!

2006-07
Colton Mayes: Mayes is back on Team Illinois looking to build off an impressive first season with the club. Unfortunatley he'll be out until December at the earliest with a hip flexor strain suffered in practice. Still, this minor setback shouldn't hinder his long term success.
Daniel Turner: The captain of the Cleveland AAA Barons is back for another season as perhaps the top 15 year old defensemen in America. Turner who developed his offensive game last year will look to make it even better this season with colleges soon to be knocking on his door.
Owen Hunter: The Govenors had an impressive season offensivley, showing great flare and exciting games. Hunter was at the forefront of their offensive assault, and he's back for his Sophmore year ready to make even more of a stir.
Dan Ertmann: Ertmann had 75 goals for Richfield High School last year as a Freshman, and like Hunter he is back for another season. The big question for Ertmann is will he finally become a team player, which would in turn make him a complete player and thus a hot prospect for NCAA teams?
Rob Nielsen: The #2 pick in the WHL Bantam Draft deciding to stick it out in Las Vegas for another year before taking his game to the WHL. He isn't 15 yet so playing in Vegas another year will do more good then harm, and will give him another year to get bigger and stronger before heading up to Canada.
WHL Rights: Swift Current
Kevin Thomas: Thomas is back at Team Illinois with Colton Mayes and will be in charge of carrying the load while Mayes recouperates from his injury. Thomas flourished in his pre-season tournament and his scoring is expected to only becoming more and more lethal.
Ivan Carrillo: Another year, and he's bigger and stronger then before. His punishing style will pay even more dividence this year for South Florida, where is now the Captain and the leader. Colleges are already noticing him but still no one knows where Carrillo would like to play in the future. This year will say a lot for what happenes with him.
Joe Mazeika: Joe Mazeika is back at Cahtolic Central as a Sophmore where he was dominate last year. This year he should be even more important to CC as they've lost several seniors, thus leaving more importance on Mazeika to carry the load.
Sean Treacy: Treacy is back in the pipes for Honeybaked, and this year everyone is hoping will be better then last. Treacy should be better but even if he plays like he did last year, he'd still be the best goalie in Midget Major hockey. Still, Honeybaked shouldn't be expected for a second bad year in a row.
Karl Bernal: Bernal, like Nielsen is back in Las Vegas for another year. Even though he was the #1 pick in the WHL draft by Regina he decided to stick back with Nielsen and have some fun in the Big City, while improving his all around game. It should be fun to see these two play with a year of experience under their belts.
WHL Rights: Regina
Mike Ritschel: The hitting machine is back for his Sophmore year at Mount St. Charles and is looking forward to a big year because next season is his QMJHL draft year. With Ritschel looking forward to playing Major Juniors, he'll be even more motivated to dominate this year, so watch out for Mike on the Mount.

Hack!?!? HACK!???!
I happen to let my partner in crime actually, you know, handle the puck every once in awhile, instead of just shooting from anywhere on the ice.
Just because you get credited with an assist when someone knocks in a rebound of one of your shots doesn't mean you aren't still a puck hogging selfish wannabe. If you had any skill, you'd be in VEGAS BABY!

2006-07 Mid Season Review
Colton Mayes: Mayes bounced back from his hip flexor with a sensational 12 goals and 32 assists in 20 games. He has become one of the finest passers in the league and teammate Kevin Thomas has benefited from it greatly, as you'll soon see.
Daniel Turner: The Barons have struggled immensley this season, as Turners stats unfortunatley show. He only has 1 goal and 13 assists in 27 games and is a - 5. Still he's average an 8.64 rating every game, so he's doing his part, but the help just sadly isn't there for Turner this season.
Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter had help last year .. This year .. not so much. In 31 games he's amassed a sensational 47 goals, but only 16 assists to go along with it. Still, Hunter has been playing great and his disparity in goals to assist is generally attributed to the lack of other solid players around him then his selfishness.
Dan Ertmann: On the flipside, Dan Ertmann was often considered a puck hog only out there for himself, but the 06-07 season couldn't be further from the truth as Ertmann has 36 goals and 25 assists for 61 points. He's also a + 31 and has been playing feister then before, racking up 71 PIM. A true turn around thus far from Ertmann.
Rob Nielsen: Nielsen continues to show what an impressive future he has compiling 36 goals and 27 assists in only 27 games played. He's a + 57 and has been dominating opponents along with Karl Bornal. People everywhere are assuming Nielsen and Bornal will both be playing in the WHL next year.
WHL Rights: Swift Current
Kevin Thomas: Thomas and Mayes have been electric for Team Illinois, everyone knows that. Thomas this season has 31 goals and 29 assists in 27 games, after a slow start without Mayes. Don't let the start fool you though, as Thomas is capable of carrying any team in the league when he puts his mind to it.
Ivan Carrillo: Carrillo has been solid offensivley with a goal and 20 assists in 27 games. More importantly though are his 160 hits and only 72 PIM, a nice departure from last year where he spent a lot more time in the sin bin. As Carrillo gets a reign on his aggression, he will only become more and more potent on the ice.
Joe Mazeika: Now 15, Mazeika has become an anchor for CC, even moreso then last year. He's heads and above the best player on the ice every game he plays as 7 goals and 31 assists in 31 games indicate. He's also continuing to develope his physical game with 85 hits, and let's not forget he's also a + 36.
Sean Treacy: Sean Treacy has got Honeybaked back to where they should be, posting an impeccable 18-3-2 record with a 1.89 GAA and a .930 save %. Honeybaked continues to return themselves to glory after an off year last year, and with that, Sean Treacy's stock rises too.
Karl Bernal: Like Nielsen, Bernal has been on fire with an impressive 32 goals and 24 assists in 27 games. Bernal is proving that .. well there isn't much left to prove at the AAA level and that the next logical step is joining Regina in the WHL.
WHL Rights: Regina
Mike Ritschel: In 31 games on the Mount, Ritschel has posted 8 goals and 35 assists for 43 points. Not only that he's a + 42. With the QMJHL looming next year for Mike, his stock keeps elevating. Ritschel's most eye popping # however are his 315 hits and only 39 PIM. A true warrior out there.

2006-07 Year End Stats
AAA
Colton Mayes: Mayes missed 7 games due to injury but it didn't stop him from putting up an 65 assists to go with 32 goals. In one was his final season with Team Illinois, Mayes turned some heads with his stunning play and will be playing juniors somewhere next year.
2006-07 stats: 43 GP, 32 G, 65 A, 97 PT, + 93
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 33 G, 58 A, 91 PT, + 89
Kevin Thomas: Thomas, who was the #4 ranked prospect in the OHL Draft (dunno how I missed it ha, sorry Kev) certainly played like it for Team Illinois alongside Colton, as Thomas had 66 goals and 52 assists. Thomas stock definetly soared throughout the year, finsihing the year as the top prospect in the OHL Draft. Where will he go however is the question.
2006-07 stats: 50 GP, 66 G, 52 A, 118 PT, + 108
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 61 G, 46 A, 107 PT, + 88
Rob Nielsen: Nielsen exploded this year for 66 goals and 44 assists, but his game wasn't all that exploded, as his ego also blew up. Nielsen, not happy with Swift Currents direction, told everyone he wouldn't play for them. He said if needed he'd play college hockey, but is he just bluffing?
2006-07 stats: 50 GP, 66 G, 44 A, 110 PT, + 93
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 47 G, 33 A, 80 PT, + 56
Karl Bernal: Bernal, the #1 pick from the WHL Draft had his own breakout year for Las Vegas alongside Nielsen, with 64 goals and 48 assists. Bernal has declared he will play for Regina in the WHL this season, even though they've been the worse team in the league the last two years. He's expected to pay immediate dividence.
2006-07 stats: 50 GP, 64 G, 48 A, 112 PT, + 91
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 47 G, 33 A, 80 PT, + 56
Dan Turner: Daniel Turner was just glad to finish the year, after what became a pure gongshow of a hockey team in Cleveland. Turner played his ass off but he only had 1 goal and 26 assists to show for it. Not only that but his team left him out to dry more often then not. Turner let everyone know the USHL is where his heart is, and come USHL Draft time, someone will be getting a real deal player.
2006-07 stats: 50 GP, 1 G, 26 A, 27 PT, - 8
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 4 G, 40 A, 44 PT, + 26
Ivan Carrillo: Much like Daniel Turner, Carrillo didn't produce like last year but much is put on his team. Still, Turner would've killed for Carrillo's numbers, as Carrillo had 3 goals and 37 points. Numbers that were expected for Carrillo when he started playing for South Florida. Much like Turner, he has declared he wants to go the US Junior route so he is still eligible to play NCAA hockey, so Carrillo is expected to be in the USHL next year.
2006-07 stats: 50 GP, 3 G, 37 A, 40 PT, + 28
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 6 G, 60 A, 66 PT, + 65
Sean Treacy: With all goalies, size is questioned. Sean Treacy is a smaller guy he can play, as his 32-7-4 record for Honeybaked surely indicated. Treacy is eligible for both the NAHL and USHL drafts, and has high hopes of being picked in the USHL draft, but some people are still writing off his chances because of his size.
2006-07 stats: 43 GP 32-7-4, 1.87 GAA, .932 save %
2005-06 stats: 50 GP, 19-18-13, 2.01 GAA, .944 save %
HIGH SCHOOL
Owen Hunter: Hunter had a great year for Govenor, scoring an unreal 84 goals, while assisting on 38. His distribution of the puck suffered without as much help this year and he was relied on to put the puck in the net, but next season he'll be back in Govenor working on his all around offensive game.
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 84 G, 38 A, 122 PT, + 24
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 56 G, 52 A, 108 PT, - 4
Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann had another Dan Ertmann type season. Lots and lots of goal, still a solid amount of assists, just not compared to the goals he scored, as he netted 69 goals, and assisted on 37. Ertmann got better on the defensive end however, increasing his +/- by 40, which is unreal, and it'll help college scouts decide on Ertmanns future. He has a ways to go though, and will be back at Richfield this year.
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 69 G, 37 A, 106 PT, + 53
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 76 G, 34 A, 110 PT, + 10
Joe Mazeika: While Mazeikas stats decreased this year, his average rating increased to an astounding 9 per game. And don't get me wrong, Mazeikas offensive numbers were nothing to sneeze at, with 14 goals and 51 assists for 65 points. He is expected to be even more a leader at CC in his Junior year.
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 14 G, 51 A, 65 PT, + 68
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 14 G, 68 A, 82 PT, + 80
Mike Ritschel: Ritschel, who was ranked in the pre-season QMJHL rankings (#45, no wonder I missed it) seemingly played himself into a top 5 Q pick with an unreal Sophmore year, as Ritschel had 11 goals and 71 assists, and over 500 hits in 60 games. He was a force, and he'll be a force again next year somewhere in the Q.
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 11 G, 71 A, 82 PT, + 89
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 11 G, 42 A, 53 PT, + 41

HOCKEY WEEKLY: JULY 7 - 14, 2007

ROB NIELSEN: ERIC LINDROS 2.0?
When Rob Nielsen left his home of Palm Springs as a 14 year old for the bright lights of Las Vegas, his parents thought he was just going there to play hockey for a team who had a shot to get to the next level. Rob always wanted to play in the WHL en route to a career in the NHL. So you could imagine the delight at Robs home in Palm Springs when he was drafted 2nd in the WHL Bantam Entry Draft (Behind teammate Karl Bernal) by Swift Current. Rob was finally getting to fulfil his dream of being a WHL'er. Or so we thought.
Apparently Rob's time on Las Vegas changed who he was. He became accustomed to winning. After losing in Nationals in 2006 to Team Illinois, a dispondent Rob said there was unfinished business in Las Vegas; Karl Bernal agreed. Both returned to the Outlaws for the 2007 season with the sole purpose of being National Champs. It would come down to a rematch of the 06 finals, as Las Vegas and Team Illinois battled it out again. This time Nielsen and Bernal would edge out Colton Mayes and Kevin Thomas, two other highly touted 91's 4-2, off of a Nielsen hat trick. Rob had won his National title, and now all that was left was joining Swift Bridge in the WHL. Or so we thought.
As Rob experienced success, Swift Bridge floundered, finishing last in their divison again, and experiencing a drop in attendance. When Nielsen heard the team was losing, he said it was no big deal, he'd turn that around. But when he heard people weren't showing up to see the team play, well that was too much. Nielsen became incensed, saying he could never play in a piss poor market like Swift Current, and began demanding a trade. American teams knew his unrest, but USHL team's decided he wasn't worth a pick because they couldn't see him playing. And while the USHL may not have beckoned, the NAHL did, as Nielsen was selected 3rd overall in the NAHL Draft by Texarkana. Nielsen said he'd consider the NAHL if something didn't happen with Swift Current. Their management called it a bluff. They were oh so wrong.
On July 4th, fittingly America's Independance Day, Rob Nielsen declared he'd be playing the upcoming 2007-08 season for Texarkana of the NAHL unless Swift Bridge traded his rights to a new team. It didn't even need to be a better team; just a team people paid to see.
With the season looming, nothing is settled. As of right now Nielsen is scheduled to join his Texarkana teammates at their training camp in San Antonio this year, but anything is possible. With the way Nielsen has whined and complained you would've forgot that afterall this is just a game ..
... Oh yeah .. and that Rob Nielsen is only 16 years old.

ROB NIELSEN TRADED; REPORTS TO CAMP
Lethbridge anties up; Nielsen ecstatic
The Rob Nielsen saga has finally reached a conclusion as Lethbridge dealt star player and 3rd round draft pick (2006) of the Chicago Black Hawks Colton Yellow Horn and the rights to Marko Hunchak to Swift Current for Rob Nielsen. Rob Nielsen was said to be ecstatic about the deal, and can't wait to start playing for Lethbridge. All eyes however are on the October 23rd game between Lethbridge and Swift Current, as several Swift Current players have said they plan on welcoming Rob to the WHL themselves.
It's going to be a wild ride this year in the WHL.

2007-08 Pre-Season
MAJOR JUNIOR
Kevin Thomas: Kevin Thomas realized his dream of playing in the O by becoming the 4th overall pick of the OHL Priority Draft by the Sarnia Sting. Sarnia has a solid, but not spectacular club, thus relying on what will hopefully be an impressive rookie season by Kevin Thomas.
Mark Ritschel: Mike was another kid who realized his dream of playing in the Q, as he much like Kevin Thomas, was the 4th overall pick in his draft by the Saint Johns Sea Dogs. Ritschel is going to be a great case to watch in an offensive minded league like the Q, where many defensemen go but don't come out alive. Ritschel has the look of a kid who'll break the mold though.
Rob Nielsen: Rob is in the WHL finally, and playing for one of it's potentially top teams in the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Rob has a target on his head this year with the off-season drama he caused but he honestly doesn't seem to care. Nielsen alongside 2007 1st round pick (12th overall to LA) Brett Leffler are expected to cause quite a stir in the WHL this year.
Karl Bernal: Bernal is playing on the Regina Pats, a team who's struggled mightily in the last two seasons, but that doesn't stop Bernal from being optmistic on the upcoming season. He personally predicted that he would be have an 80 point rookie campaign and lead the Pats out of the cellar and into the WHL Playoffs. Much like Nielsen, he's wearing a target on his back, but he is expected to perform.
AMERICAN JUNIORS
Daniel Turner: Turner jumped one step closer to becoming an NCAA player when he became the 8th overall pick in the USHL Entry Draft, when he was selected by the Sioux Falls Stampede. His physical play will be much needed in the Sioux for a team who lost 49 games last year. Thanks to the power of the trade with Des Moines, the Sioux were able to make two first round picks, taking Turner on the backend. He's expected to be a steal if he plays the way he's become known for.
Ivan Carrillo: Ivan Carrillo was the #1 pick in the USHL Daft, of the Omaha Lancers. Carrillo keeps getting bigger as he's now up to 6'4", 195 lbs, and impressed everyone in the USHL last season with his extreme physical nature and ever increasing maturity. Expect more big battles as Carrillo and Turner will be battling it out all season long.
Sean Treacy: Sean Treacy may not have been taken in the USHL Draft, but it didn't stop the Bozeman Icedogs from making him the #1 pick in the NAHL Draft. Then again, Bozeman's GM just happens to be former NHL goaltender Mike Richter, who bought the franchise. So the fact he decided to take a small goalie isn't a shocker. Treacy is the man for Bozeman, and with a good season could see an NCAA schollie head his way.
Colton Mayes: Mayes was the shocker of the whole junior draft. He was bypassed in the USHL and NAHL drafts, so he signed with the Springfield Junior Pics of the Interstate Junior Hockey League. Mayes is looking to prove himself all over again to the college scouts, so he'll need a great attitude and solid work ethic to dig himself out of this rut.
HIGH SCHOOL
Owen Hunter: Nothing new to report on Owen Hunter, as he is back for his Junior year with the Govenors. He's getting near that point where colleges will be knocking on his door, so he will definetly be looking to make even more of a dent.
Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann is back for his Junior year at Richfield, but he's becoming impatient with the NCAA process, and is having trouble motivating himself. This could be doom for Ertmanns chances if he doesn't pick up his game, because his talent may be golden, but with no work ethic, he'll become increasingly useless to teams.
Joe Mazeika: Back for his Junior year at Catholic Central, Mazeika is looking for his 3rd straight D1 State Title, and is on perhaps his most loaded team to date, which features several other NCAA D1 perspective players. So long as Mazeika, in his second year as Captain can keep the team focused on just that, the team, then CC should have no trouble walking through the season.

Lethbridge vs Regina will be a great matchup as well. Rob Nielsen will treat his buddy to a long night of drunken debauchery when he comes to town!
And those pissant nothing wankers at Swift Current will be demolished. Rob Nielsen does not play for a team whose fans won't support them.
Wow, #1 pick!! The Omaha Lancers won't regret, they have a new crussader with them. Nobody will ever keep the puk in our field for more than 1 second without feeling the fury!

2007-08 Mid Season Review
MAJOR JUNIOR
Kevin Thomas: Half way through this rookie year in the O, Kevin Thomas is playing like he's 18 instead of 16. In 37 games thus far, Thomas has netted 18 goals and 32 assists. Thomas impressed so many people thus far that he was on Team OHL in the Canada/Russia challenge. Thomas added a goal in their 3-1 win over Russia. Look for a second half sure from KT to get him in the top 10 in the league in scoring.
Mike Ritschel: Ritschel, who many wondered about because of the speed of the QMJHL game, has shown no ill effects, as he's had 3 goals and 23 assists, to go along with his 154 hits and 4 won fights. Saint Johns has benefited greatly from Mikes presence as they've given up the least amount of goals in the Q. Mike was also on Team QMJHL who routed Russia 7-1.
Rob Nielsen: The self annointed Superstar, is .. well .. a superstar. Rob has proven his worth to Lethbridge by netting 41 goals and adding 33 assists, making him the top scorer in the entire WHL at this point of the season. Rob, battling a hip flexor, was named to Team WHL but won't be able to play. Still, Rob's unbeliveable play has those #10 Lethbridge Jerseys flying off the shelves.
Karl Bernal: With the hype machine Rob Nielsen making headlines, his teammate from Las Vegas Karl Bernal has been just as good for Regina, carrying them to 2nd place in their divison. Bernal has 37 goals and 23 assists, placing him 6th in the WHL, and also landing him a spot on Team WHL to take on the Russians.
AMERICAN JUNIORS
Daniel Turner: Turner has been a welcome relief to Sioux Falls, and has shown that last year was just a fluke, and not really Turners fault, as Turner has 3 goals and 20 assists to go along with 145 hits and a perfect 10 for 10 in fights. Turner has the highest league average per game in the league at 8.7 and has college scouts salavating.
Ivan Carrillo: Carrillo has been almost as good for Omaha as Turner has been for the Sioux, as Carrillo has 3 goals and 22 assists, but he's only 2 for 3 in fights and hasn't put up as many hits as Turner. Still, Omaha and Sioux Falls have really formed a rivalry since these two titans joined the league, and with a game coming up, we expect fireworks to fly.
Sean Treacy: If anyone knows of a goalie with a .500 record with better stats then Sean Treacy, do not believing them because they're liars. Treacy is 11-11-7 with 1.42 GAA and a .966 save %. Bozeman has been awful this year, leaving Treacy out to dry in every game they play. Treacy, with these kind of numbers, will have no worries come recruiting time.
Colton Mayes: Playing for Springfield, Mayes has shown he's a man amongst boys, with 18 goals and 34 assists in 30 games. Mayes is giving everyone who passed him over .. Which is actually everyone the comfort of knowing they utterly fucked up, and Mayes is going to keep rubbing their noses in it.
HIGH SCHOOL
Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter needs to move now. Half way through the season he's netted just an asanine 70 goals and 24 assists, and he still has aprox 30 games to go. Govenor is going to run away with their state title, and Hunter is the catalyst of their assault. Chances are he'll stay out East but every team in America is scouting him.
Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann is back to his old form. 30 games played, 41 goals, 15 assists. His numbers pale in comparison to Hunters, but Ertmann has been equally dominate, just he's playing better competition, or so many pundits think. Ertmanns love of the game seems to have come back but it still wanes. We'll see what happens as the year progresses.
Joe Mazeika: 5 goals, 24 assists, 9.00 rating a game. He keeps on rolling, and won't be slowing down anytime soon. Colleges are calling, where will he go? Only time will tell. The only thing thats for certain is that as long as he's playing for CC, they'll keep on winning and Joe will keep on producing.

USHL PRESS RELEASE
DANIEL TURNER VS IVAN CARRILLO
Bench Clearing Brawl Undercard
When Lancers winger Trevor Patrick ran Sioux Falls goalie Brad Dries in the 3rd period of what was a chippy game already, we knew it was the straw that broke the camels back. What Trevor Patrick didn't realize was that Daniel Turner was on the ice. The next twenty or so seconds Patrick would love to forget, if he can even remember them, as Turner pummeled him. The refs gave them 5 minutes, Dries was okay, everything was supposed to be okay. Supposed to is the key.
When Daniel Turner got back on the ice, he wanted to make a dent, so he took a run at Lancer D Eric Goulet, who also happens to be Ivan Carrillo's partner. Goulet went down, and Carrillo went after Turner. The two titans battled in what some fans say was as good a fight as Probert vs McSorley. It was a battle that went over a minute, that left both guys with bloody noses and black eyes. Daniel Turner won this round, as he ended the fight with a haymaking left that dropped a weak kneed Carrillo. Still, it wasn't enough for Sioux Falls, who wanted to show Omaha they meant business.
The benches ended up clearing, and finally, after 5 minutes of fighting, order was restored thanks in part to some Sioux Falls security. The game finished out without incident but the tension was still in the air.
Both Turner and Carrillo were suspended for a game a piece, but both, barring injury will be playing in three weeks, when Sioux Falls visits Omaha. Everyone heard their was tension between Turner and Carrillo when they were playing for the Barons and Golden Wolves respectivley, but it's finally come to a head, and it's safe to say a rivalry has been born.

Kevin Thomas: Kevin Thomas started his OHL career off on the right foot, finishing 2nd in OHL Rookie of the Year balloting after a season that consisted of 33 goals and 59 assists. Thomas is expected to be a top 3 point getter next year in the O. Thomas strong play lead Sarnia to the playoffs, but they didn't make it out of the first round.
2007-08 stats: 68 GP, 33 G, 59 A, 92 PT, + 43 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 6 GP, 5 G, 5 A, 10 PT, + 4
Mike Ritschel: Mike Ritschel answered all the doubters that questioned whether his physical play could translate to the Q. Mike offensivley continued to impress with 4 goals and 44 assists, and he packed a wollop with over 300 hits. Mike lead St. Johns to the QMJHL Semis where they lost to eventual champions Lewiston. Ritschel also picked up quite a bit of hardware, winning the QMJHL's Rookie of the Year, Defensemen of the Year and 1st team all QMJHL.
2007-08 stats: 67 GP, 4 G, 44 A, 48 PT, + 30 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 17 GP, 2 G, 13 A, 15 PT, + 26 [Playoffs]
Rob Nielsen: The Rob Nielsen experience started off with a bang. In his 4th game he set a WHL Record with 6 assists in a game, and he never looked back, netting 54 goals and adding 57 assists, making him the leagues 4th leading scorer. Nielsen was runner up for WHL Rookie of the Year and finished third in the league in goals scored. Nielsens great play lead Lethbridge to the WHL Conference Finals. Along the way they beat Karl Bernal and Regina in a 7 game series that saw Nielsen score an epic game winning goal with under 2 minutes left. The rivalry between the two has just begun.
2007-08 stats: 68 GP, 54 G, 57 A, 111 PT, + 58 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 18 GP, 15 G, 13 A, 28 PT, + 19 [Playoffs]
Karl Bernal: He went under the radar for the first half of the year, and then, he was the man. Bernal was the WHL Scoring Champion with 64 goals and 65 assists, and he lead the Pats to the playoffs, where they lost to Rob Nielsen and Lethbridge (See Above). Bernal won the WHL Rookie of the Year and Scoring Titles and is expected to contend with Rob Nielsen as the scoring leader next year, in what will be his last season before he's drafted. Expect fireworks.
2007-08 stats: 72 GP, 64 G, 65 A, 129 PT, + 60 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 12 GP, 15 G, 12 A, 27 PT, + 17 [Playoffs]
AMERICAN JUNIORS
Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner enjoyed a great season in the USHL notching 8 goals and 47 helpers for Sioux Falls. Turner has become the premier recruit according to the scouting services, and is currently looking at Wisconsin and Boston College. Still, he has another year to make up his mind, so anything can happen.
2007-08 stats: 50 GP, 8 G, 47 A, 55 PT, + 61
Ivan Carrillo: After the brawl, Carrillo and Turner battled hard but without incident the rest of the year. Still many people say nothing is finished between these two, and expect more battles for years to come. With that said, Ivan Carrillo had 5 goals and 35 assists this year, and after the Turner debacle went 8 for 8 in fights, reprising his tough guy image. Presently Maine and New Hampshire top the list of schools fighting for Carrillos services, but there's still time to decie.
2007-08 stats: 48 GP, 5 G, 35 A, + 35
Sean Treacy: If Sean Treacy ever gets a team in front of him who scored 3 goals a game, they could go undefeated. Treacy had a pedistrian 23-20-10 record, but a Super Hero like 1.43 GAA and a .964 save %. Treacy has become a hot topic amongst colleges, with Maine and Dartmouth heading his potential suitors.
2007-08 stats: 53 GP, 23-20-10, 1.43 GAA, .964 save %
Colton Mayes: Colton Mayes ran through the Imperial League with 40 goals and 59 assists, but right now is only getting looked at by DIII schools, like Amherst and Wisconsin-River. Mayes has another year to make things happen and hope for something better to come along, but it's all questionable.
2007-08 stats: 50 GP, 40 G, 59 A, 99 PT, + 24
HIGH SCHOOL
Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter dominated everyone. That perfectly sums up his 117 goals and 49 assists this season, as the Govenors rolled to another State title. Hunters amazing flare has attracted the interest from several schools, but right now it looks like an interstate battle between Michigan and Michigan State for Hunters committment for the 2009-10 season.
2007-08 stats: 60 GP, 117 G, 49 A, 166 PT, + 99
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 84 G, 38 A, 122 PT, + 24
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 56 G, 52 A, 108 PT, - 4
Dan Ertmann: Another year, another dominating season for Dan Ertmann, as he posted 79 goals and 33 assists, and swam in letters from NCAA schools. Presently Harvard and New Hampshire headline Ertmanns potential suitors, but as with all our players, he still has another year before anythings confirmed.
2007-08 stats: 60 GP, 79 G, 33 A, 112 PT, + 60
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 69 G, 37 A, 106 PT, + 53
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 76 G, 34 A, 110 PT, + 10
Joe Mazeika: Mazeika was Mazeika as CC claimed State title #3 during the Mazeika reign. Joe had 15 goals and 52 assists and was named Mr. Hockey of Michigan as a Junior, the first time ever for such a feat. Presently Joe is being recruited by Michigan and Harvard, but time will tell where he laces em' up next year.
2007-08 stats: 60 GP, 15 G, 52 A, 67 PT, + 81
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 14 G, 51 A, 65 PT, + 68
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 14 G, 68 A, 82 PT, + 80

2008-09 Pre-Season Report
MAJOR JUNIOR
Mike Ritschel: Mike is back at Saint Johns and is ready to build on his amazing rookie season, while also raising his NHL Draft stock. Ritschel is the anchor for St. Johns and the best player in the Q according to most scouts, so he's expected to put up career numbers this year.
Kevin Thomas: Thomas is expected to be top 10 in the OHL in scoring this year, and will be leading Sarnia to what is expected to be a top 3 OHL finish. Expect more big numbers for Thomas as he works to be a top 10 NHL Draft Pick.
Rob Nielsen: The Rob Nielsen Experience was informed his petition for the 2009 NHL Draft was denied and he must play another year in the WHL before he can be drafted. He is of course incredibly furious with the ruling and has promised to show everyone how much they're losing by keeping him out of action.
Karl Bernal: Bernal will be eligible for this years draft, and has promised everyone he'll be leading the WHL in scoring again this year. Only one person is doubting him, and that's former teammate Rob Nielsen, who has promised the world he will take the WHL Scoring Title and not only win the WHL Championship, but the Memorial Cup as well.
NCAA
Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter shocked the world by graduating early and enrolling at Dartmouth, where he will be spending the upcoming season. Dartmouth was considered a darkhorse in the running for Hunter, so his committment sent shockwaves throughout the East Coast. Hunter is another kid eligible in this years NHL Draft.
Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann also shocked the college hockey world by committing to MSU-Mankato. Ertmann, like Hunter, enrolled early and was promised immediate icetime for MSU-Mankato, so he jumped at the offer. Ertmann is also eligible for this seasons upcoming draft.
AMERICAN JUNIORS
Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner is still at Sioux Falls in the USHL and is still looking at Wisconsin and Boston College for next season. Turner is eligible for this years NHL Draft, but many expect him to be a lower pick for now, but with a good year, you just never know.
Ivan Carrillo: Ivan Carrillo, also eligible for the draft, is back at Omaha and is ready to make a name for himself, and also get his revenge on Daniel Turner. Maine and New Hampshire continue to lead the pack for the colleges all looking to land Carrillo.
Sean Treacy: Still at 16 years old, Treacy like Nielsen will be sitting out this draft, but he'll be in Bozeman playing for Mike Richter, attempting to get into one of the top NCAA teams. Maine is still looking long and hard at Treacy, but Qunnipac has also joined the fray. But as we saw with both Hunter and Ertmann, anything can still happen.
Colton Mayes: Mayes is back in Springfield and is eligible for this years draft but he isn't expecting to be taken, unless it's in the last round. Mayes continues to draw interest from DIII teams, such as Bethel and Lawerence, but he has his fingers crossed he might be able to land a DI schollie still.
HIGH SCHOOL
Joe Mazeika: Looking for his 4th State Title at CC, Mazeika is still looking at Harvard or Maine and might be eligible for next seasons draft if he can get the proper petition in and authorized. Mazeika is now a man amongst boys in high school, and is expected to repeat as Michigans Mr. Hockey.

NCAA PRESS RELEASE
USA CELEBRATES WJC WIN!
Players Find Time To Announce Committments!
After a thrilling WJC tournament in Germany that saw the United States shock the hockey world with the tournaments youngest team and win the WJC Gold Medal, several of the teams youngest players let the world know where they would be playing hockey next season.
Current Bozeman goalie, and WJC MVP Sean Treacy was first to act, announcing to the world he'd be manning the pipes for the University of Maine next fall.
Apparently that was the nudging that D Ivan Carrillo of the USHL's Omaha Lancers needed, as Carrillo decided to announce that he too would be playing hockey next season for Maine.
Carrillo's partner on D in the WJC's and bitter rival Daniel Turner announced to the world that he will be lacing them up for Wisconsin next season. Turner and Carrillo both buried the hatchet for the good of the US, but rumor is nothing is settled.
Finally, the teams youngest member, Joe Mazeika decided to not only go to a premier hockey school, but an academic one as well, as Mazeika announced he will be attending Harvard next season. Expect some great battles between Mazeika and Owen Hunter who plays for Dartmouth next season.
On a related note, Springfield Pics player Colton Mayes announced he'll play D-III hockey next year for Lawerence.

2008-09 Year End Review
MAJOR JUNIOR
Kevin Thomas: Kevin Thomas had another huge season, and his stock keeps on rising with the NHL Draft looming. Thomas, a part of the US U-20 Gold Medal winning team put up 37 goals and 70 assists, putting him 7th in the OHL in scoring. Thomas is expected to be a top 15 pick in the Draft.

Mike Ritschel: Mike was the US U-20 Team Captain, and was named to the all WJC Team. He then rounded up QMJHL MVP, Defensive MVP, Best Defensive Defensemen and 1st Team QMJHL. Mike had an 6 goals and 47 assists during the regular season, and come playoff time he lead Saint Johns to the QMJHL finals where they lost in 7 to P.E.I. He is expected to be a top 5 pick in the Draft.

Rob Nielsen: Nielsen, another US U-20 All Tournament Player put together a massive year, netting 66 goals and assissting on 68 more, making him the 9th highest scorer in the WHL. Nielsen was prominent on TSN all season long with his highlight reel goals, and hopes to parlay that into a top 5 draft pick in next seasons NHL Draft.

2008-09 stats: 7 GP, 4 G, 5 A, 9 PT, + 7 [Playoffs]

2007-08 stats: 18 GP, 15 G, 13 A, 28 PT, + 19 [Playoffs]
Karl Bernal: Bernal was close to leading the WHL in scoring again. In fact, he improved over his #'s from last year, and that's with missing games to represent the US in the WJC. Bernal had an incredible 88 goals and 86 assists, but was beat out by his linemate Andy Grimard who looks like a shue in as the #1 pick in the 2011 draft. Grimard had 70 goals and 108 assists. Want your mind really blown though? In 16 playoff games, Bernal had __54 ASSISTS__. He assissted on everyone but 3 Pats goals. Unfuckingreal. He won the WHL Goal Scoring Title and was named to the All CHL Team, and may've gotten himself into the top 5.

NCAA
Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter was big for the US in the WJC, showing a penchant for the late heroics. At Dartmouth he was keyed in on every single time he set foot on the ice. Still, he had a solid Freshman year with 17 goals and 14 assists. Scouts noticed his raw ability and could be a first round pick.
2008-09 stats: 50 GP, 17 G, 14 A, 31 PT, + 4
Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann won a gold medal but he didn't see much ice time in Germany. That changed when he got to MSU-Mankato, where he had a very solid 11 goals and 10 assists for the worst team in the WCHA. He, like Hunter showed flashes of brilliance but was constantly keyed in on. Still, he is another kid who could crack the first round if teams see his potential.
2008-09 stats: 50 GP, 11 G, 10 A, 21 PT, - 5
AMERICAN JUNIORS
Daniel Turner: It can't get much better for Daniel Turner. He won a gold medal, committed to Wisconsin and will be drafted in the NHL Draft. He put up similiar numbers for Sioux Falls this season like he did last season, but he was all over the ice and made his presence known at the WJC's, which surely helped his stock.
2008-09 stats: 55 GP, 5 G, 48 A, 53 PT, + 41
2007-08 stats: 50 GP, 8 G, 47 A, 55 PT, + 61
Ivan Carrillo: Carrillo was just like Dan Turner. He won his own gold medal (ironically playing with Turner), committed to Maine and is waiting to hear his name called in the NHL Draft. He also grew quite a bit, now standing a 6'5" and weighing 220 lbs, his body frame makes scouts drool. Omaha will miss Ivan's presence, but Maine will welcome it with open arms.
2008-09 stats: 46 GP, 2 G, 40 A, 42 PT, + 27
2007-08 stats: 48 GP, 5 G, 35 A, 40 PT, + 35
Sean Treacy: He did it all. He won the USA the Gold at the WJC's and did it all as a darkhorse. Many have to think come next years pre-season draft rankings Treacy will be the top goalie ranked, and why not? He was MVP of the entire WJC. Treacy committed to Maine, and will join WJC teammate Ivan Carrillo as a Blackbear. Treacy was phenominal for Bozeman, but Bozeman wasn't phenominal for him, thus the poor record, all stats considered.
2008-09 stats: 48 GP, 21-16-11, 1.33 GAA, .965 save %
2007-08 stats: 53 GP, 23-20-10, 1.43 GAA, .964 save %
Colton Mayes: Mayes somehow has fallen off the charts, and it's a shame, because his passing is considered one of the best in the US. Mayes was good for Springfield, and got a D-III roster spot with Lawerence out of it, but it was a bitter dissappointment considering the hype of two years ago. Hopefully Mayes keeps at it and turns his story into one we all hear when he's playing in the NHL, whenever that may be.
2008-09 stats: 60 GP, 26 G, 51 A, 77 PT, + 21
2007-08 stats: 50 GP, 40 G, 59 A, 99 PT, + 24
HIGH SCHOOL
Joe Mazeika: The youngest member of the WJC team capped off his high school career with back to back Mr. Hockeys in the state of Michigan and four consecutive State Titles. Mazeika was Mr. Dependable for the Shamrocks, and will now look forward to his Freshman year at Harvard, and his draft, be it next year, or the year after, depending on how his eligibility works out. Regardless, pencil him in for the next two WJC's.
2008-09 stats: 55 GP, 13 G, 60 A, 73 PT, + 72

AND WITH THE FIRST PICK IN THE 2009 NHL DRAFT ...
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/DannyDubz/avalanche.jpg
The Colorado Avalanche select RW Karl Bernal
Regina Pats of the WHL
6'1", 180 lbs
San Jose, CA
OVERVIEW
Karl Bernal becomes only the 4th American ever to be taken #1 (Brian Lawton, Bryan Berard and Rick DiPietro) and deservedly so, as Bernal absolutely torched the WHL in two seasons, racking up nearly 300 points, and putting up 54 assists on 16 playoff games! Bernal will be best remembered at this point for his penalty shot goal in the WJC Finals vs Sweden, but beyond the flashy goals and amazing assists is a solid defensive game, a sound physical game and a great poise for an 18 year old.
Colorado is filled with 3rd and 4th liners at it's wings right now, though they still have free agency to address some needs, but with not many options under contract, and not the strongest farm system, it's entirely possible Bernal could make a dent on the Avs roster this year, and if not, then in 2011 for sure.

The Los Angeles Kings select D Mike Ritschel
Saint Johns Sea Dogs of the QMJHL
6'1", 195 lbs
Somerset, NJ
OVERVIEW
Mike Ritschel has been the top defensemen in the QMJHL the past two seasons, and was the Captain of the World Junior Championships Gold Medal winning United States team. It's quite fitting Mike Ritschel gets drafted by the Kings because numerous scouts conmpare him to Rob Blake, who was a fixture on the LA blueline for numerous years. Ritschel might not have his kind of offensive fire power, but his poise and leadership and physical play are all in the vain of Rob Blake.
The Kings current crop of defensemen is lead by Aaron Miller, who is nearing retirement, and after that, there isn't anything worth mentioning. It's quite possible Ritschel could make the leap straight to the NHL this year, as he almost a sure thing to be invited to the Kings training camp. Ritschel is most interesting to see in regards to next season because he could step in right now, it just depends on if LA wants to rush him.

WITH THE FIFTENTH PICK THE 2009 NHL DRAFT ...
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/DannyDubz/ice-hurricaneslogo.jpg
The Carolina Hurricanes select RW/C Owen Hunter
Dartmouth of the NCAA
6'3", 190 lbs
Claremont NH
OVERVIEW
Owen Hunter's pure offensive talent netted him the distinction of being the 15th overall pick in the draft, and deservedly so. He has everything you look for in a playmaker: good hands, great vision, quick shot and he is always moving. Hunter had a decent Freshman year at Dartmouth but he's expected to flourish next year as a Sophmore. Hunter though played himself into the top 15 according to many scouts thanks to his work at the WJC in Germany. Hunter could use work developing his defensive game a little longer, but by the time he turns 20, he'll be playing pro hockey, be it in the AHL or NHL.
Carolina has a solid offense right now lead by Brad Richards, Eric Staal and Brian Gionta, but unfortunatley, the latter two struggled this season which could've lead to Hunter being taken by a team with some young guns. One scout did say Owen Hunter has the ability to be a 40 goal scorer in the NHL, so we'll just have to see how it shakes out.

WITH THE TWENTY SECOND PICK THE 2009 NHL DRAFT ...
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/DannyDubz/new_jersey_devils_logo_1.jpg
The New Jersey Devils select LW Kevin Thomas
Sarnia Sting of the OHL
6'1", 183 lbs
Richmond, IL
OVERVIEW
Kevin Thomas could be the biggest enigma in the draft, according to several websites. Thomas has so much talent, but in some aspects his game is limited. He can make every pass you can think so, and he could be one of the deadliest players in the game on a breakaway immediatley, but he won't be a guy who battles for you in the corners, and he won't put many vicious hits on anyone, but he'll make people look good. If he plays with the right guys he could be an offensive threat, but if he's flying solo, his play could be limited.
The Devils have an older offense, but they are coming off of a Stanley Cup finals run, however improbable as it were. Still, they have some decent guys on their farm, and Thomas, with some seasoning will become a household name if brought along correctly, which means another year or so in the O and the a year or two more in the AHL. If he gets rushed, he could suffer greatly.

WITH THE THIRTEITH PICK THE 2009 NHL DRAFT ...
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/DannyDubz/cbjlogo.gif
The Columbus Blue Jackets select RW Dan Ertmann
MSU-Mankato of the NCAA
6",196 lbs
Richfield, IL
OVERVIEW
Dan Ertmann gets drafted by the reigning Stanley Cup champs, but he has a long ways to go before he is playing everyday in the NHL. Ertmann has the gift to score goals, but he needs to work on setting guys up. Ertmann's biggest problem though is his propencity to take off shifts and lollygag back on defense. Columbus plays a team defense game that relies on all five guys sticking to their man and giving it their all every shift. That's something that can only be gained with maturity, which Ertmann will hopefully earn with some more time at MSU-Mankato.
Columbus can be a good fit though for Ertmann because they lack serious offensive punch after their top line of Nash/Zherdev/Brule. Ertmann is another young gun who can play with their top three young guns and give them two line depth both even strength and on the power play, where Ertmann could be a specialist. This is a good fit though because he will have time to mature, or so you'd think, since no Stanley Cup Champion team should need to rely on an 18 year old rookie in their defense year.

SECOND ROUND NOTABLES
2.12 - Florida Panthers: Daniel Turner, D, Wisconsin Badgers of the NCAA
Daniel Turner was a solid second round selection and will be counted on to develope at Wisconsin where his physical play will fit right in in the rough and tumble WCHA. Turner could be a guy who becomes a #1 or #2 defensemen with the right coaching and the right system.
2.16 - Boston Bruins: Ivan Carrillo, D, Maine Black Bears of the NCAA
Ivan Carrillo is a big body who physically is ready for the NHL, but definetly not mentally. Carrillo has to work on the chip on his shoulder, or else he'll get schooled by some of the biggest and baddest enforcers the NHL has to offer. Carrillo will probably play all four years at Maine, then make the transition to the AHL, and soon to the NHL where at the age of 24 or 25, he could become a force physically.

2009-10 Season Preview
NHL
Mike Ritschel: Mike Ritschel isn't wearing #4, but he is wearing #3, and he is on the LA King's top defensive pairing alongside Vishnovsky. He isn't being utilized on the power play, but he is also on the #1 short handed unit for both 5 on 4 and 5 on 3 showing that Andy Murray has supreme confidence in an 18 year old playing at the highest level. The Kings aren't going to be great, but with solid play defensivley and in net, they're a possible 8th seed.
Karl Bernal: Bernal, the #1 pick in the 2009 draft is wearing #41 for the Colorado Avalanche, a number he picked because he said that's going to be the number of goals he averages per season for his career. Bernal is starting off on the third line playing with Eric Nystrom and 21 year old Benjamin Breault. Bernal is also on the 2nd PP line for 5 on 4 and 5 on 3. The hope is to get Bernal going so he can get playing on the second line along side Marek Svatos. The Avs top line consists of Kris Beech, Milan Hejduk and Wojtek Wolski. Some good young skaters in that group.
MAJOR JUNIOR
Kevin Thomas: Thomas was the 22nd pick in the draft to the Devils, but he was expected to go within the top 15, which has left Thomas with a bitter taste in his mouth. With that said, he's back in Sarnia ready to make a run at the OHL Scoring Title in his third year in the league. The Sting could make a run at the CHL Memorial Cup if Thomas plays his game.
NHL Rights: New Jersey Devils (1.22)
Rob Nielsen: With Bernal out of the WHL, Nielsen is the best American by far in the WHL, and he is ready to put all the doubters to rest, and show that he should be the second American in a row to be taken #1 in the Draft. Nielsen has Lethbridge feeling the Hollywood vibe, and now he is ready to take that step into the WHL Scoring Elite, and crack the top 3. And maybe crack some skulls along the way.
NHL Preliminary Draft Ranking: #7
NCAA
Owen Hunter: Hunter is back in his sophmore year at Dartmouth with renewed confidence after being selected with the 15th pick in the NHL Draft by Carolina. Grumblings are already being made by the Dartmouth staff that they'll lose Hunter at the seasons end, and while there is no concrete truth to that, it is entirely possible that this will happen. Hunter is expected to lead the Big Green to the tournament and from there, it's anyones guess what'll happen.
NHL Rights: Carolina Hurricanes (1.15)
Dan Ertmann: Ertmann was the final pick of the 1st round, going to the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Columbus Blue Jackets. The pick was one that confused some, although Ertmann was rated right around that area, people just felt his all all around game didn't warrant first round consideration. Still, Ertmann was the pick and now will be entering his Sophmore year at MSU-Mankato where he is hoping to lead them into the top of the WCHA. Ertmann is a guy many believe will be around for the long hall at MSU-M but if he starts to play like he can, then you never know.
NHL Rights: Columbus Blue Jackets (1.30)
Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner was the 12th pick in the 2nd round to the Florida Panthers, a possible steal from Floridas perspective. Turner is now enrolled with the Wisconsin Badgers who are a favorite to reach this years Frozen Four. He is someone who has developed his offense every season, but has maintained his bread and butter physical play. With some seasoning in the NCAA for a few years, Turner is a candidate to make the Panthers roster and be an intregal part of the Panthers for years to come.
NHL Rights: Florida Panthers (2.12)
Ivan Carrillo: Carrillo enrolled with Maine, who is another strong candidate to go to the Frozen Four, thanks in part to the top recruiting class in the Nation, headlined by Sean Treacy and Carrillo. Carrillo is a big body who was taken by Boston in the 2nd round and can be one of the NHL's best enforcers and most imtimidating presences if he can develope his skating. Four years at Maine will be the factor in how Carrillo's career plays out.
NHL Rights: Boston Bruins (2.16)
Sean Treacy: The top recruit in America, Treacy who became so highly coveted after his miraculous WJC tournament, much like last American Gold Medalist goalie Al Montoya decided to take his craft to the Maine Black Bears, where they're expected to battle it out with Wisconsin, Michigan and Harvard for this years Frozen Four. Treacy is at the top of his game and is expected to be a top 15 pick in the upcoming NHL Draft. There's nothing he can't do.
NHL Preliminary Draft Ranking: #11
Joe Mazeika: Joe Mazeika has single handedly brought Harvard into Frozen Four contention. He was the #2 prospect according to just about every scouting bureau, and should pay imediate dividence for Harvard. He could be a one and done in school, that's how highly touted he is, and in truth, how good he is. Though his early ranking may not do him total justice, you should remember Karl Bernal was almost in the same boat and look at what happened.
NHL Preliminary Draft Ranking: #14
Colton Mayes: Mayes enrolled at D-III school Lawerence, and is expected to be their top player. He's hoping the D-III route will lead to an NCAA schollie. Some people have given up on Mayes but his intangibles make him an interesting case based on the simple fact that you just can't teach those. If Mayes keeps putting in the effort, he could be rewarded, it just is going to take him a lot longer then others.
Come on Sean Treacy, we will make Maine the top team ever!
About that Turner pussy, the WJC is over, we are in war again!

USA vs CANADA
FIRST PERIOD
The United States decided it was going to go all out in the first periold, looking to lay the wood to any Canadien player who came near the puck. Unfortunatley the plan backfired as the United States was penalized five times. Canada took complete advantage netting two PP goals and a an even strength goal as one penalty let out. Canada put an ASTOUNDING 29 shots on net in the first period, but Sean Treacy made 26 saves. Still, it was looking bleak for America, especially considering they took a penalty to end the second.
SECOND PERIOD
Canada wasted no time making it 4-0 on their 3rd PP goal to start the second, and it looked like America was about to be run out of the building. Then, something happened. You know the old addage big players make big plays on big days? Well, enter Owen Hunter, Rob Nielsen and Sean Treacy. Owen Hunter got the ball rolling with two goals in four minutes to cut the US defecit to 4-2. Then the fourth line made waves, as Frederik Csisar put one in the back of the net to make it a one goal lead. One Canada penalty later and it was Aaron Lewis from Nielsen and Mazeika on the Power Play. With the German crowd going nuts, it seemed like the US was going to ride the momentum into the third.
THIRD PERIOD
The third period was like the first however, as the US took several stupid penalties, but Sean Treacy decided he would not let the US die. Treacy made 20 more stops in the third, giving him 54 through regulation. The US only mustered 7 shots in the third, and now the game was tied, and would be heading into OT.
OVERTIME
Twelve minutes into OT and it was Andy Grimard, the top player in this years Draft according to most scouts breaking in on the top goalie in this years draft, Sean Treacy on a breakaway. Treacy made an acrobatic leg save however, to keep the game going. Then with four minutes left in OT, Brian Weber took an errant Canadien pass in all alone, but Canadien Goalie Dandinault made his own acrobatic save, this time with the glove, to keep it tied, and send us into a shootout.
SHOOTOUT
Kevin Thomas would shoot first for the US, and he would score on a pretty goal stickside. Canada sent Dale Hunt in on Sean Treacy who denied him with a sprawling stick save. Owen Hunter was up next for America, and like he did all game, he made a play, this time sniping Dandinault with a shot high blocker side. With the pressure now on Canada, James Livingston was up. He couldn't beat Treacy though and the score was 2-0. Dan Ertmann was up with the chance to clinch it for the US but was stoned on a nice save. Up came Rile McIntosh for the Canadiens who forced a puck past Treacy to give Canada some hope at 2-1. But enter Rob Nielsen. When his team needs him most, Nielsen pulled a one handed goal (think Jiri Lethonen) to put the USA up 3-1. Wh Craig Jennings needing to score to keep Canada alive, Sean Treacy once again proved his worth with another big save, to give the USA a 3-1 win in the shootout!

USA vs FINLAND
Semi-finals
1st Period
The first period of the United States/Finland game was just like the first period of the Canada/USA game, as the Fins absolutely dominated. This time though, Sean Treacy was on from the get go, turning away all 22 Fin shots. Meanwhile, the USA managed 9 shots, but one of them was from a streaking Dan Ertmann down the right wing who just put the puck on the ice, and it rolled past the Finnish goalie, Aalto, to give the USA a 1-0 lead. It was only the fourth goal the Fins had allowed all tournament, and the first time they hadn't had the lead. Still the USA were being badly outplayed, and were lucky to have a 1-0 lead.
2nd Period
The Fins once again came out smoking with 15 shots on net, but the USA only allowed one shot inside the Primary Shooting Zone (From the hashes in) and once again Sean Treacy was huge. But the 15th shot of the period was on a nice one timer from Markkanen that tied the game at 1-1. With the Fins having the momentum, America needed something; anything to get them started. Enter Brian Weber. Weber exploded out of the penalty box to get a perfect feed from Joe Mazeika. Weber in all alone on the next deked out Aalto and made the score 2-1 USA going into the third.
3rd Period
Sean Treacy is offically the best goale in the USA WJC history. In the third period with the USA being badly outplayed, and their tournament life on the lines, the US relied on Sean Treacy and he came up big. Treacy turned away all 13 Finnish shots, including THREE BREAKAWAYS en route to a massive upset, as the United States preserved their 2-1 lead to win it 2-1. Sean Treacy, in the two biggest games of the tournament, was named the unanimous first star, and is the only reason the USA will be going on to play Sweden for the Gold, in a rematch of last years finals.

USA vs SWEDEN
GOLD MEDAL GAME
1st Period
The US needed to come out strong vs the Swedes to have a chance to repeat as Gold Medalist, and they got the hot start they needed. It started off early with Kevin Thomas blasting home a slap shot on a one timer feed from Rob Nielsen, that was also assisted on by Joe Mazeika. Vinny Saponari was next to act, this time jumping on the power play and getting a nice pass from Ivan Carrillo the lead to a slap shot goal. Mazeika earned his second assist on the play. The best news was Sean Treacy only needed 9 stops in the first and the US walked into the intermission up 2-0.
2nd Period
Paajarvi of Sweden was able to knock the lead down to 2-1 on his own one timer, and it looked like Sweden had some life. But Justin Brooks answered three minutes later on what was a trickler past Swedens goalie. A weak goal that seemed to take the sails out of the Swedish sails. With Brooks goal the USA was up 3-1 with 20 minutes to go.
3rd Period
The third period saw Sweden have both guns blazing. Unfortunatley it lead to a turnover in there own end. The puck was moved over to Brandon Allen who ripped a shot from the point to put the USA up 4-1. With five minutes left, Sandstrom on Sweden scored, but by then it was too little too late. Sean Treacy turned up his game and thats how the game ended, 4-2 with the USA repeating as Gold Medalist!

OVERVIEW
The US team that won silver is long gone, but this team is just here to get the young guns like Johnson, Kessel, Ryan, Fritsche, Parise and O'Sullivan some exposure. Add that to some young blood to replace the old guard like Hatcher, Guerin and Tkachuck and the USA will be a potential powerhouse in the 2014 Olympics. Unfortunatley, this team will be lucky to contend for Bronze. They're just too green.

SUMMARY
Canada is primed for a repeat at Gold. Lot's of veterans from last Olympics team, plus some new guys who could've played on last years team. They're still going to be competitve in four years too, with Nash, Crosby, Bouwmeester and others ready to carry the torch. One problem down the line could be goal, but chances are Lulongo, who will only be 34 at that time, will still be manning the pipes. Even with playing the Russians and the Swedes, the Canadiens are still the odds on favorites to take Gold back to Canada.

SUMMARY
The Swedes have an all around team. They can do it all, and while the Russians could hold their own against Canada in a shoot out, the Swedes can beat Canada straight up if they play an amazing game. The wildcard is 18 year old stud Anton Lander, who many Americans are familiar with during his time in the WJC's. Lander can straight up play and is the favorite to win the NHL's Calder Trophy. If Lander can mature overnight into another go to guy for the Swedes, they can have a legit shot at the gold.

2010 MID YEAR REVIEW
NHL
Mike Ritschel: Ritschel has 12 assists thus far into the season, but has struggled to gain consistency on a bad team. Andy Murray keeps shuffling lines trying to find some continuity, which now has Ritschel on the third unit with Lydman, but it hasn't worked well yet. Ritschel is their future so he'll be the one who gets the benefit of the doubt.
Karl Bernal: Bernal only has 9 goals and 5 assists as a rookie, but again, Colorado isn't much in the way of a team. Bernal is on the third line still, but none of the Avs lines are scoring as the Avs rank last in the NHL in Goals For. Bernal won't be in the running for the Calder, but this is a good learning experience.
MAJOR JUNIOR
Kevin Thomas: Kevin Thomas has been playing as advertisied with Sarnia, notching 74 points halfway through the season. Sarnia currently sits 8th in their conference, which is dissappointing but as of now it'd land them in the playoffs which is all they want. If they can land that, then the records erase and anything can happen.
Rob Nielsen: Wow is all that comes to mind when looking at Nielsens accolades this year. He has 121 points through 59 games, and has Lethbridge already clinched for a playoff birth. He has carried the team on his back, considering their defense is non-existant, but their offense packs a punch. Nielsen is in a battle for Grimard of Regina for league MVP.
NCAA
Owen Hunter: Dartmouth has struggled, but Hunter has been solid, with 12 goals and 13 assists through 35 games. People won't remember him for his NCAA play however, what they will remember is his two years of clutch play at the World Juniors.
Dan Ertmann: MSU-Manatako is another team struggling to win games, but Ertmann is playing solid with 20 points thus far. The numbers don't sound like much but Hunter has the same problem; being a top guy on a bad team, he's getting keyed in on every shift he's out.
Daniel Turner: Turner has been excellent at Wisconsin, tallying 19 points and being a + 8. He's also laid the wood with 134 hits, which matches his 134 PIM. Turner is also a perfect 10 for 10 in fights, which slowly is becoming the most intriguing part of his game for sure.
Ivan Carrillo: Carrillo has been awesome. 35 points, + 43, 8.21 rating per game. Perhaps no one has improved more so far then Carrillo, who along with Treacy have lead Maine to the #1 ranking in America and perrenial favorites to win the Frozen Four.
Sean Treacy: Sean Treacy is maybe the most clutch USA born player people have seen in ages, and his ranking from the CSB proves that. But more then that, his play proves that. Treacy is 24-7-4 for Maine with a 1.94 GAA and a .925 save %. Treacy is expected to be a first round pick in the draft for a reason.
Joe Mazeika: Mazeika at Harvard has been dynamite for a 17 year old freshman, as he has 17 points so far, and has been delievering lots of hits, with 103 to date. Mazeika continually impresses NHL scouts and is going to be a first round pick, more then likely in the top 15 come draft time.
Colton Mayes: Mayes has 50 points in 30 games for Lawerence in the D-III, and he's showed off skills people didn't realize he had. Will anything come of it? This no one knows, but he has shown he has the ability to be a difference maker no matter where he plays so you have to think someone is taking notice.

2010 Year End Review
NHL
Mike Ritschel: Mike played decently for the Kings to a point, but then he suffered a dislocated shoulder that kept him out for the last 30 games of the year, which was a shame, but a fitting way for the Kings seasons to end. Ritschel will be back, all healed up and ready to make a bigger impact next season.
2009-10 stats: 53 GP, 0 G, 12 A, - 12
Karl Bernal: Bernal played in 77 games but the Avs had one of the worst records in the NHL because .. well they couldn't do anything right. They couldn't score and they couldn't stop people from scoring, which lead Bernal, and just about everyone else, to low point totals and horrendous +/-.
2009-10 stats: 77 GP, 10 G, 7 A, 17 PT, - 36
MAJOR JUNIOR
Kevin Thomas: Thomas was solid for the Sarnia Sting, cooling down near the end of the season but still putting up some solid #'s in what was a down year in the O for offense.
2009-10: 62 GP, 40 G, 46 A, 88 PT, + 48 [Regular Season]
2009-10: 7 GP, 5 G, 4 A, 9 PT, + 4 [Playoffs]
Rob Nielsen: Nielsen had another stupendous year, rivaling his totals from last year. Nielsen lead Lethbridge to the Conference Semis, but he couldn't quite get them over the hump.
2009-10: 64 GP, 66 G, 67 A, 133 PT, + 73 [Regular Season]
2009-10: 13 GP, 13 G, 11 A, 24 PT, + 20
NCAA
Owen Hunter: Hunter finished with another solid year for Dartmouth. Nothing spectacular but still solid. Hunter is nearing the end of his college run, with the AHL looming.
2009-10 stats: 46 GP, 18 G, 17 A, 35 PT, - 9
Dan Ertmann: Ertmann with a solid year, albeit not too spectacular. He played his game well and showed a good flare on the ice at times. Still was lost out there whenhe took a shift off, but improved over last year.
2009-10 stats: 45 GP, 16 G, 10 A, 26 PT
Daniel Turner: Turners offense cooled but Wisoncsin didn't as they rolled into the Frozen Four where they were dumped by Sean Treacy and the Maine Black Bears 5-1 in the finals. Still, Turner looked good and is making the Panthers happy.
2009-10 stats: 46 GP, 10 G, 31 A, 41 PT, + 9
Ivan Carrillo: Carrillo was awesome for the Black Bears, definelty becoming their best defensemen as the season wore on. Carrillo's offense was a nice addition to a physical game that left numerous opponents wondering what mack truck they ran into.
2009-10 stats: 46 GP, 4 G, 41 A, 45 PT, + 48
Sean Treacy: Add Frozen Four MVP to his list of accomplishments, as Treacy lead the Black Bears to the NCAA Title. Treacy was just awesome, you can't say anything else about it, and he's solidified himself in the top 15 of Junes draft.
2009-10 stats: 41 GP, 30-7-4, 1.98 GAA, .932 save %
Joe Mazeika: Mazeika got Harvard into the final eight, and was named team MVP, but he alone couldn't get Harvard past Wisconsin, who they fell to 2-0. Mazeika was great for a freshman though and he too anchored himself in the top half of the first round of the draft.
2009-10 stats: 46 GP, 4 G, 23 A, 27 PT, + 10
Colton Mayes: Mayes was great for Lawernece in the 55 games he played, showcasing a talent for hitting the open man wherever he was. The question is who else is taking notice?
2009-10 stats: 55 GP, 28 G, 49 A, 77 PT, + 21

WITH THE EIGHT PICK IN THE 2010 NHL DRAFT ...
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/DannyDubz/LOS_ANGELES_KINGS_LOGO.jpg
The Los Angeles Kings select LW/C Rob Nielsen
Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL
6'2", 176 lbs
Palm Springs, CA
OVERVIEW
What an ideal draft pick for the Kings. They needed offense. Check. They needed someone to put butts in the seat. Check. They needed someone to teach them confidence. Check. Nielsen, the Hollywood kid, comes to LA to play alongside former WJC Teammate Mike Ritschel with hopes of putting the Kings back on track.
The USA was hoping Nielsen would land in a big market because many compare him to Jeremy Roenick 2.0, both in talent and his brash, cocky attitude. Nielsen will be all over the news in LA you better believe, and for once, the Kings are slowly having a positive outlook on the future with Nielsen and Ritschel making their presences known in due time.

WITH THE ELEVENTH PICK IN THE 2010 NHL DRAFT ...
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/DannyDubz/wild.gif
The Minnesota Wild select G Sean Treacy
Maine Black Bears of the NCAA
6'3", 213 lbs
Santa Fe, NM
OVERVIEW
Sean Treacy, barring any injuries, might just be on par to becoming the best US born Goaltender ever. He has that kind of ability, size, potential and mental make up to be the best. The Wild haven't changed much as a team either. Still a defense first club, they beat you with solid D and mistake free offense. Treacy has a better then average chance of being Minnesotas #1 goalie next year as an 18 year old, which is almost unreal to think about.
On the off chance Treacy doesn't make the Wild, it's a lock Treacy will make Maine the pre-season #1, as well as being the backstop to the USA's World Junior team that looks to three peat Gold. In the end though, Treacy will be doing something prolific when next season rolls around.

WITH THE THIRTENTH PICK THE 2010 NHL DRAFT ...
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c279/DannyDubz/ice-hurricaneslogo.jpg
The Carolina Hurricanes select D Joe Mazeika
Harvard of the NCAA
6'0", 183 lbs
Berkley, MI
OVERVIEW
Mazeika going to Carolina is going to unite some Dartmouth and Harvard blood with Mazeika and Owen Hunter getting a chance to play together. They worked well at the WJC's and are expected to both have outside shots at making the Canes this year, who are looking at a younger team with their own outside hopes of contending for the playoffs.
The Canes are a mix of young and old on the point making Mazeika cracking the line up entirely possible, if not this year, then next. Jack Johnson is the one constant on there, but Mazeika will be right alongside with him, not only anchoring the Canes for years to come, but quite possibly the US Olympic Teams too.
It'll make for interesting times.

What's the competition at goal look like?
Esche is the #1 right now, contracted at 4.5 mil a year through 2012.
Todd Ennis is the #2 at 29 years old, but he's pretty garbage.
Kyle Gajelwski is the #3, but he's looking like an ECHL goalie then an NHL goalie.
Their three AHL goalies are also medicorce, so basically Treacy is second best, but even then he's almost on par with Esche.
They have one unsigned goalie from Russia who won't ever see the NHL more then likely.
