View Full Version : Duke Won't Run The Table

The're too small. They don't play defense at as high a level as some Duke teams in the past, and their fast break isn't quite as crisp. I don't think they can do it.
But I'm starting to think JJ Redick is going to be a heck of a player in the NBA.

Why? He's not nearly athletic enough to play at the next level. He's Trajan Langdon redux.

Nah, Reddick is a lot better player, both at the college level and as a pro prospect, than Langdon. The guy is absolutely fearless with his shot and is willing to take responsiblity for a win/loss in a manner that great players do. Landon never did this. Also, it is pretty clear that Reddick has worked on putting the ball on the floor and going to the bucket over the last couple of seasons - something that Langdon never did.
I'm not sure he is athletic enough to be great at the next level, but I'm pretty confident that Reddick is going to be more than a John Paxson type contributor.

God, ESPN has such an extreme hard-on for Redick. He makes any play and they go nuts. WHAT A PASS BY REDICK!!!! After he hits an open man under the basket. Sorry, but I could have made that pass...

They won't go undefeated at all. I could see them losing 2 or 3 games thise year. I think Redick will be a good NBA player provided he is with a good wingman that is can penetrate the lane. I am not sure he is quick enough to beat guys to the rim. The guy that really confuses me is Shelden Williams. Yes his numbers look good at the end of the night, but it seems like he spends way too much time in foul trouble. I am not sure his game will translate to the NBA.

Way to call your shot, guys. :p
I mean, usually there's a team or two undefeated at this time of year and they never finish undefeated.

Redick is a lot more athletic and skilled than Langdon was. I was surprised Langdon was even drafted; I think Redick will be a mid-first round pick, about like Jameer Nelson.

I just think there are too many games in a season to win out.

Way to go out on a limb since it has been since 1976 that a team went undefeated.

Didn't stop from having the same discussion in the NFL and that has not been done since 72

Didn't stop from having the same discussion in the NFL and that has not been done since 72Well, except people were doing it with the Colts with 4 games to go (roughly 1/3rd of the season, if you count playoffs) versus 2/3rds of the season

But I'm starting to think JJ Redick is going to be a heck of a player in the NBA.
Redick is averaging only 2.3 assists and 1.7 rebounds. Has there ever been a top college player who has contributed so little in those categories that went on to have a good pro career? He is shooting 50% from the field this year, but expect that to drop--his previous career his is .423.

Redick= Van Horn
Van Horn and Redick are very different players. Van Horn was a big man with outside game. Van Horn has average 16 points and 7 boards a game over his pro career, If Redick avergaes 16 points a game in his pro career I'll be surprised.

Duke will also lose in the tourney once they start getting non-ACC refs that don't let them get away with raping an opponent.

Redick = Steve Alford.
He's great in an organized offense where he can come off picks and hit open jumpers, but in the NBA half court game (especially come playoff time) I don't see him getting man looks. Yes, he's improved his game off the dribble, but I don't see it being good enough to get open in the NBA where a guy taller and more physical will be shoving him around.
Last night they compared him to Mark Price, but Mark Price was WAY more quicker than Redick.

Redick = Steve Alford.
I just made that comparison to someone yesterday, and they laughed at me and said Redick is better at creating his own shot. Whatever.

Boy, I went out on a limb there :pIs college football a major sport? Not saying that it will happen for sure, but it seems to happen with pretty good regularity there. But that's the only one.
I'll bet everything I own (ok, so that's not a whole lot) that no MLB team will go undefeated this season, provided they play the entire162 games. No fluke one-game-and-the-world-is-destroyed-by-aliens season.

And Duke goes down... Georgetown knocks off the Blue Devils. Meanwhile St. John's knocked off previously unbeaten Pitt.

They both have that "catfish head" thing going on, where they have eyes on the sides of their heads for 300 degrees of viewing.

Probably the greatest live sporting event of my life. Hoya Saxa baby!
By the way, Redick is pretty much unbelievable. He gets every call you could possibly get, but still, the guy is pretty darn good. I have to think he'll be a good pro as well. Georgetown is back (maybe :D )!

What a great game to watch. I think Redick takes way too many shots though.

I would agree, but man, 15,000 people feared only one guy today (probably 5k tonight were Duke fans, one of the crappy side effects of playing in a huge pro stadium). I'm still convinced that if Redick got the ball in the closing seconds he would've somehow drained a trey and been fouled. Although he missed two pretty big threes in the game, one at the end of the first half and one with a couple minutes left, the rest of the time it seemed like he could've punted it from half court and it would've gone in. He is a scary dude who, backne or not, will have a solid pro career. If Peja is an all-star JJ will be as well.
But there's no way Duke was winning out with this team regardless, Redick was the only guy doing anything offensively.

Redick impressed me today, must admit, as did Duke overall. They made a bunch of terrible mistakes towards the end of the game, but still nearly came back. I think they're definitely a Final 4 team. Nice win for the Hoyas.

Don't get me wrong, Redick is one heck of a player.. but I could easily see the team looks to him for everything when it comes to their offense... which I think he tries to do too much in certain spots. Of course it's a catch-22. Who else would you want shooting it?
I agree, he should be good in the pros.
