This question is about Fast Break College Basketball.

In my 3rd game of the season my senior point guard injured his knee and is out for the year. In the game, once a player plays a minute they are ineligible to be red-shirted. However, in real college basketball a player can be red-shirted if they don't play more than the first 20% of a team's games. So, by actual college basketball rules my PG would be eligible to red-shirt. I should also note that he hasn't already had a red-shirt season. Since I can't override the game to red-shirt him I was thinking of just changing his class year from SR to JR to bring him back next season. My concern is that I've already filled all of my scholarships for next season. If I "red-shirt" my PG it would leave me with 14 scholarship players next season, one over the limit of 13.

My question is this : Ethics of the move aside, what effect will this have on the game? Will it crash because of the scholarship overage? Will it make me cut someone? Will it cut someone on its own? I'm curious if anyone else in a similar situation tried this and what the result was. Thanks.

Are you certain that the game won't take a scholarship away from you (from your recruiting this season)? I would think that Brian would've covered his bases for situations like this.

Worse comes to worse, back up your current league and push on.

My recruiting class is already full. When I change the PG's class to JR, the recruiting page tells me I know have -1 scholarships available. I guess I'll just keep going until the end of the season and make a copy of the game before I end the season just in case.

Okay duh, somehow missed that part about your schollies being full.

In basketball, as soon as you play a minute you cannot redshirt.

It's football that you are allowed to play less than 20% of a team's game. Brian had it done right.

Players who have played cannot be redshirted for non medical reasons. Players with major injuries can be redshirted if they haven't competed in 20% of their team's games. I know because it was an issue earlier this year with a player at Rutgers where a player was playing through an injury and they considered a redshirt. There was a deadline when a decision had to be made. My player in FBCB would be eligible to be redshirted.Obviously this would be very difficult if not impossible to include in the game. I just have to figure out how do it my own way without crashing the game.

Worst case scenario - Use the player editor to make one of your scholarship players a walk-on or even cut one of your worst players using the player editor.

Pretty sure both of these can be done.

I think that's what I'm going to do. It seems to make the most sense in all regards. Thanks for the responses.

Update:
I'm 3 games into my PG's 5th season. There is one minor glitch. When trying to access his player card page, I get a message telling me there's an error. When I get past the error, his ratings and potentials are blank. His season by season stats are there but there are no career totals, probably because the 5th season covers it up. However all of the ratings and stats are available through the roster and team stats pages.Everything else is as it should be. So, besides the one minor problem which is not a big deal, it seems to have worked out.

This is what I thought might happen actually when I read your post of the FBCB boards. Good to hear that it doesn't effect the rest of the sim.
