I think I posted on here back in November that I took over the Chief of Psychiatry job at Children's Hospital (It's half of my work week.) Anyway, one of my responsibilities is presenting at a weekly conference every few months. Tomorrow, I'll be doing this for the first time, and I'll be giving an hour talk on Identifying and Treating PTSD in Children after Hurricane Katrina. Normally, I don't get too nervous giving presentations, but I'm still fairly new to the hospital in this role, and I hear the entire Hematology-Oncology department is going to be there along with a lot of other docs and allied professionals, so I'm a bit nervous tonight. Wish me luck.

Aw crap, you'll kick this in the ass & you darned well ought to know that by now.
(If you can deal with this place, a conference is like a walk in the park ;) )

Just remember that being nervous is a good thing before public speaking. It will help keep you on your toes. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I just finished doing my final run through of the power point presentation, making sure there aren't any typos, grammatical errors, spelling errors, etc. I also gave the presentation in front of a mirror twice today so I should be set for tomorrow. Now, i just need to do something fun for an hour or three until I'm tired enough to sleep (I never sleep well the night before a presentation.) Fortunately, it is at 8:00 AM tomorrow, so the lack of sleep shouldn't be catching up to me at that point (it usually hits mid/late afternoon.)

Thanks everyone. I think the talk went well. My only serious criticism of myself is that I become a little bit monotone when I'm nervous and that happened for stretches of my presentation. However, it seemed to be well received.

Wish I'd seen this last night, but my computer was giving me all kinds of issues. :(

Glad to hear it went well, and good luck on future talks!!!! :)

I just saw this now, Eagles. Congrats! I actually have a phobia about this stuff and, unfortunately, my job requires it. I have a presentation on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and the following Monday. Today I was just invited to be a keynote speaker at a seminar.

Needless to say...I just got my first anti-anxiety med today. I'm really hoping it works out because doing this crap turns me into a wreck.
