Werewolf XXII - Way of the Colt - Game over, congrats samurai! [Archive]

OK, time for yet another friendly game of werewolf. Extended rules to follow next week. Here is the short version for purposes of tweaking interest ...

1.) Looking for 20 players for this game.
2.) It will be a hidden roles game - no roles are published initially and there will be incomplete information about roles upon death.
3.) Looking to begin the game on Monday, January 30th.
4.) I'll planning to adopt a 24/12 day/night cycle but I'm willing to alter this to meet the requests of the players.
5.) The game isn't werewolves versus villagers per se, but more of a kung fu movie brought to our message board.

I'm going to hold two slots open to allow people who I know have limited board availability during the day the opportunity to get in the game. But the other 18 are first-come, first-served. All I ask it that if you sign up that you do so with the idea that you will be available for 5-7 days to participate in the thread.

Cronin, I was basically holding the spots for a day to offer up to two people who I worried would not be available to grab the first 20 spots because of the times they are active on the board (night hours).

If you have the availability to play on the week of 1/30 - 2/3 (and longer, provided the game is extended into the following week) then please sign up. But if you aren't going to be able to play during that time then hopefully you enjoy reading along and can jump in again in a future game.

If I dont get in, its cool. I will enjoy watching :) I have one month or a little more left of pretty much free time to browse alot at work before i get home. So hopefully will hop in at least one more before I get busy again with work and disappear for a year or so.

One of the two spots that I was holding was for SirFozzie, who ran the first WW game I participated in (X-Com) and he indicated in a PM to me that he is in. So I'm still awaiting a response from the other individual. If he is out then I'll slot you as #20.

I'm excited with the level of response today and really looking forward to running the game.

I think we proved last game that when all the experienced players are dead it makes the game that much easier for the wolves. If I do turn out to be innocent do you really want to help the wolves by killing me off on day 1? :D

Gram, you are correct. Of course, the movie was completely twisted and actually showed another guy as the victor in a final conflict. Just know that won't be happening here at FOFC.

I've got three alternates listed - RPI, Schmidty, and Grammaticus. There is enough time between now and the start that I think there is a decent chance that some (if not all) of you will see time in this one.

RPI, I think you will have plenty of time during the 24 hour "day" cycles with those time restrictions. The "night" cycles may be a little more challenging if/when they fall during actual daytime hours. So that would require a little planning on your part (or your teammates) if you have a role that requires something during that time.

Bottom line, I'm fine with it if you feel that you will have sufficient cycles to participate.

The summons went out across all corners of the globe to the greatest practitioners of dozens of martial arts. Each of you left everything behind to come to this desolate Chineese village to answer the call of a living legend, Chuck Norris. The instructions said to arrive between 4:30 - 5:00 AM at the bonfire in the middle of town (very loose interpretation of the word, more like a hovel).

Some of the other faces here are known to you, while others are a mystery. But each man possesses the confidence of one who is unequivocally unthreatened by his surroundings or his fellow men.

The disappointment is palpable when it is revealed at 5AM sharp that the hooded man near the bonfire is not the great Chuck Norris, but a younger, 30-something American who doesn't even have a respectable beard. And based on his lack of athleticism, this whelp wouldn't be capable of delivering a roundhouse kick to save his life!

"Greetings to all of our visitors here today. I am Hoopsguy and I am acting as the agent of Chuck Norris on this evening. You will not see me again after this meeting - from this evening forward you will have to deal with Chuck Norris. But since I am here now, I have instructions for you. Chuck Norris has discovered a mystical treasure that would elevate an accomplished warrior into the 2nd most deadly man on the planet. This item, and the understanding of how to release its power, would grant the ability to utterly annihilate every other man around this fire.

For those of you who stand for good, the samurai gathered here today, you have an opportunity to protect this item and to ensure that it does not fall under the sway of those who would abuse it. For those of you who embrace the ninja culture, you are close to holding a tool that would allow you to crush your foes.

Each passing day, as night falls, you will again gather here to face Chuck Norris. You will need to select a warrior to answer to his fury. Chuck will continue to visit you each day until every last ninja in the village has been rooted out. If a time arises where the ninja have equal numbers to the samurai then Chuck will personally destroy all remaining samurai for failing him. The item will then belong to the ninja. Do not force Chuck to do this; he has great faith in the samurai assmebled here tonight.

One final note - the smoke coming from this fire contains a chemical that both heightens and dulls your senses. For some, it will open pathways of thinking that you have never before possessed. But for all of you, it will prevent you from recalling any events prior to tonight. Although you may have encountered others in this group in past lives, none of this will be known to you now. Some of you may have the ability to recall critical details more quickly than others ...

Finally, please speak with each other in English so that all may benefit from your wisdom. I will now begin preparing in advance the graves for those who will ultimately prove to be unworthy of this honor.

I'm planning to send out roles sometime on Friday, depending on Internet access (likely afternoon, possibly evening). That should provide time for an extended Day 1 (no Night 0 in this game) over the weekend and through Monday to get things going.

Also, I would like to emphasize that no roles will be posted prior to the start of the game. The tie-breaker rules are not posted. The reveals on death will not be nearly as complete as they have been in the majority of other games on this board. Finally, don't count on the same roles that have been in just about every werewolf game, because some of them are not in the game and others have been tweaked. For those of you who like to play fast-and-loose with your werewolf games, I think you will have the ability to do so in this one.

By the way, is everyone OK with starting the Day 1 on Friday afternoon and running through Monday night at 8PM CST? If those dates/times are going to present issues please let me know either in this thread or via PM. Since no one has their roles at this point, I know that there isn't any angle-shooting if someone really does have issues with the (potentially) modified starting time ...

Now I've been in the bar getting drunk for about 2 days straight now, and not once has Tanglewood given me a drink. After all his arguing with Packer over it yesterday this is not acceptable. Therefore I must:

Quite honestly dubb i expect to attempt to stir some discussion up tomorrow. My vote on you was unlikely to stay before the comment, but like i always want it caused you to defend it. I expect that to happen a few times tomorrow to make this a somewhat better informed day one. With non-usual roles, its going to be an interesting game and im just trying to feel out the players i know. I couldnt tell you how tangleweed normally responds, hence my vote for you. I don't really think thats a very good idea. We found last game that when some of the seasoned vets in the villagers were killed, the rest of the game lacked alot of order or direction, and the villagers never were able to keep things together. I think its probably in our better interests to try to keep some of our vets alive for a while, so we can have time to get more information on who the bad guys might be. Unless someone comes out with some proof to why one of the vets is a likely ninja, or they slip up, Im not sure I would like to lynch one of them on a "hunch" this early.

That said.. last game I voted for the first person to vote.. this game I decided to vote for the first person to cast a second vote on someone. I really have no idea if Saldana is good or bad, or if Sirfozzie is good or bad, but for day one at least for now:

The last I saw, day one is over at 8pm CST on monday. So about 32 hours from now. Plenty of time for people to get in. If people don't vote/contribute to the discussion by then, its probably not due to lack of chance.

I think at this point the best thing to discuss is the various ins and outs of this game...the rules will be quite uniqie according to hoops, and a few rules are different i believe...thats something to talk about. The other thing is the votes that have already come down and their reasons for such. What did you think of fozzies comments and rpis wilt under pressure from dubb(tech i did too, but was already going to)

I think after last game it should be quite clear that at least SOME experience is needed to help direct the team...the wolves took out every seasoned villager and it became a trainwreck. Before last game i would have said it didnt matter who died, but watching last game knowing who was who taught me a lot, including the fact i believe we need strong villagers. I think we can all agree last game was horrid after the vets died off early...id feel like a villager would want to avoid that same path. So for the first day or so, ill give someone like dubb the benift of the doubt. Especially since many vets arent in this game...it is already a heavily inexperienced roster, with hoops, ardnet, and barkeep all not playing.

Yes, the rules sound like they will be different this time. Yes, we will be able to talk about the ins and outs of the game, once we have some data to go on. Right now, we don't know much. I'm sure there will be much more to talk about in a day or two.

As far as why I voted for Saldana: He voted for me. I misunderstood one of his posts, and he took offense at one of my posts in reply. It's all good, since the first day is generally a random vote anyway.
Its not so much for the first vote as to get people talking...if people talk people give off hints and clues, whether meaning to or not. Discussion is always good for the villagers, even if its about random game items or terms...We still have till monday night to vote, and id imagine much will happen vote wise tomorrow, or i hope, but i think any talk is good talk. Especially with a few villagers playing i know dont talk more then once or twice a day

I think it's because some people like to use pressure as a constant tactic. It's easy to cross the line between game and personal if you aren't careful (and people often aren't). So that tactic is naturally going to lead to some animosity.

I know. I was getting frustrated with some of that occuring which is why I took a long break between WW 6 or so and the last few games. I wish we could focus on the in-game elements.

I just don't like some of the attitudes that develop during this game. It's not that I hate all reverse psychology. However, if someone tells me to vote for them, I'm going to take them at their word and vote for them.

I understand that people can get frustrated. However, people should step away from their computer if that happens. Don't say vote for me, unless you really want to be voted out of the game (which makes me wonder why you joined in the first place.)

I didn't mind playing in this game untill Fozzie started to envisioned himself being a comedian and Des started to troll me for the 2nd straight game.

You basically just said you dont care about winning...im sorry, im in this to win. You go have fun killing villagers, im going to try to win. Lets recap fozzies wonderful ideas:

Kill the vets, let the inexeperienced ones win(great idea)
Dont go for the win, have fun(if thats your idea, dont sign up...this is a game, and in any game the objective is to win)

Kill the vets, let the inexeperienced ones win(great idea)
Dont go for the win, have fun(if thats your idea, dont sign up...this is a game, and in any game the objective is to win)

Doesnt say anywhere in there that im good...unless im blind. So you are assuming some link from that post? I can do that too. Whos binky? And ill be proactive and say that after last game we do need the vets to HELP...were not key, no one but the seer/bodyguard/crazy new role is...im not one of those, maybe he is...but i do believe killing vets early is not wise, especially day one. The last game proved this point. Id love for you to debate that the killing of the vets(by dubb, a wolf) was not a major key. Any wolf will tell you exactly what they were doing, killing myself, barkeep, neon, etc. And the inexperienced guys didnt notice they were killing off vets.

Last game, the wolves did everything in there power to kill vets, at night and by framing during the day(mr. w and others). Now you are....coincidence?? :confused: :confused:

Repeat after me muppet "Your right, new players can play very well...they didnt last game"...but from my studies players get better every game they play...i havent told him but i think cronin developed heavily the past 3 games...

As for this game, new players could be the best players...but i dont quite understand your crusade against dubb and i other then you are working for the wolves. I have yet to support dubb really, but you see a link. Im just feeling like THIS GAME AND THIS GAME ONLY you are playing like a wolf would. And then trying to play it off as humor so everyone thinks you dont care, while you clearly have an agenda

I guess the biggest thing that concerns me so far is for whatever reason RPI and sirFozzie seem to really be taking a strong stance against Dubb and Blade. It doesnt seem to make much sense to me to try to eliminate experienced players just because of people rubbing each other the wrong way. I think the experienced players are pretty important to keep around unless we find something damning them worthwhile for a vote.

I dont know if one of these pairs are wolves, but I'm puzzled to why people would call each other out on day one without any proof one way or another
