View Full Version : TCY injuries question

Are injuries a totally random factor that nothing can be done about, other than having coordinators that are good at injury prevention (and mine are pretty good at that but it doesn't seem to matter)?

I would presume if a player substitutes out of the game more often, that would make him less likely to be injured as he would be fresher during the time he did play - is that a factor?

Also, do weight training and practice time have an effect, and if so, what are the positive or negative effects of them?

A little frustrated - had a fair amount of injuries this season but in my twelfth season I finally took the Orange to the Sugar Bowl to battle UCLA for the national championship.

My starting quarterback had been out since the fifth week but fortunately he was in full health in time for the game. So, what happens? He gets injured on my first offensive play handing the ball off and he's history once again. Basically, that meant the game was over right there - the defense held me in (down 14-7 late in the third quarter) but the lack of offense eventually resulted in my defense being worn down to the tune of a 38-7 loss to a UCLA team that has now won the title seven times alone and shared it once in the twelve years I've completed so far (also won 81 of their last 83 games as well).

I've noticed, in my careers, that yes, the injuries are limited somewhat if you have better coordinators. Otherwise, it's pretty much a random factor. It is kind of a bummer that you would lose your starting QB on the first play. I've had that happen too, but I've never been fortunate to play in the national title game.

I guess we just take the injuries as they come, and hope we have enough depth to cover, at least somewhat, in moments such as yours.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen as successful a team as your UCLA team. I know that certain teams tend to move up and stay near the top, but never have I seen a team as totally dominant as that one....odd...wonder what they did right??

At least you've never had a starting RB trip on his way back to the huddle after a delay of game, and 45 weeks out with reconstructive knee surgery. I laughed, then remebered he was my best player.:(

Yeah, that UCLA team has really been something. Not only have they won the title seven times and shared it once in the twelve years I've been coaching against them - all this has happened in the last nine years! The thing is - every year they get about ten of the top 100 recruits as well. It has me wondering how this team is ever going to lose. I posted once asking about opposing teams having dynasties within their own and no one seemed to have run into something like this UCLA team I've got to go up against.

As for the Illini, they have been very strong as well (and yeah, you gotta love those injuries that happen when someone lines up in an illegal formation or goes offside - lol). They finally got a share of the national championship three seasons ago but have now finally started to decline - they had beaten me in the Fiesta Bowl very early on and then a couple of times in Champaign to open the season. I finally got them in Syracuse this past season and took them down 35-19. With the season just completed, I finally have passed them in prestige - 96 to 95. Ahead of me - UCLA (100), Notre Dame (99) and Texas A&M (97).

In regards to teams kicking ass for long periods of time, look into cthomers' Rutgers dynasty. University of Texas has won many times there.

BUMP!

Any new news on these issues with the most recent TCY Update taking place?

Thanks!

I'm looking all over for the text file that came with 1.3, but I can't seem to locate it. It's my understanding, however, that 1.3 didn't address injuries at all. Previous iterations addressed a depth chart issue (originally the internal scouts favored the current better player when making the lineups causing some players to never mature into what they could be) as well as updated scheduling and conference alignments.

Sorry I don't have more info.

I've played into 2012 with the latest update (as Virginia) and injuries appear to be about the same. No one has mentioned this above, and Jim has posted this effect is true in FOF: players who get injured severely will become injury prone in the future. I"ve had a 100 across-the-board RB constantly knocked out with injuries every year--including the infamous finally return and get knocked out for 24 weeks on his first play back type. Fortunately have more than adequate backups with run-and-shoot offense, so this is no big deal.

Also, for me, Ohio State is the major rival with the coach winning coach of the year every year except for my 2 national title years. A big surprise has been UCLA sucking royally (and hiring the Toledo coach this off season) and USC being the PAC10 beast.
