Funny, I seem to recall this same statement sometime before last weeks game, when they then went out and won the game without the guy who put up the majority of their offensive output for the season playing past the 1st quarter....
Seattle VS Denver

My statement was about seattle being overrated, not Alexander's statistics. The fact is Alexander is the heart and soul of the Seattle Offensive unit, however, when they lost that heart and soul they went on to defeat an extremely strong Redskins defense.
I have a hard time reading "Seattle is STILL overrated" after seeing that performance. Carolina is vastly inconsistant. Look at the two Bears games to see just how badly inconsistant they are. Seattle, on the other hand, has been the most consistant team in the NFL this season. The Panthers are also beat to hell on defense, something that team simply cannot overcome. Their defense is what wins them ballgames. Seattle doesn't make a lot of mistakes and that again is something Carolina requires to ensure wins. Carolina's run ends today.
As for the Denver/Pitt game, it really is an even bet, but I think Denver wins at home.
Seattle Denver, count on it. Seattle beats Denver for the title. Holmgren gets revenge on the Broncos.

My picks are Seattle and Denver.
I'm not sure two teams as strong as these have ever been picked by so many people to lose.
I like both Pitt and Carolina, but I think the reasons for people picking them are a little strange.
The most interesting thing, IMHO, is how people slam Seattle for their schedule and then pick Pittsburgh in Denver.
Ummm. . . if schedule strength is part of your criteria, it didn't get any tougher than Denver's. Of the teams left in the playoffs it looks like this: Seattle 32nd toughest schedule. Carolina, 30th. Pittsburgh 17th. Denver 3rd. (only SD and Oak had tougher schedules in all of football this year)
Denver has faced 11 teams with winning records this year. That doesn't even count a Philly team who came into Denver with a 4-2 record.
I think Pittsburgh has a shot in this game. I don't think they'll win, but they are on a roll and could easily force a few Plummer mistakes and win the game. I just find it amusing so many people who bash Seattle for their schedule aren't giving Denver credit for theirs.
As for that Seattle/Carolina game, I think Seattle will not only win the game, I think they'll win it fairly comfortably. I watched Grossman get his bearings and move Chicago up and down the field against the Panthers in the second half last week. Hasselbeck can flat out play. It took Seattle a bit of time to adjust to Alexander being gone (they had a 7 play, 55 yard drive while he was still in)
They had a series of three and outs. Then, against a pretty damned good defense and without Alexander they proceeded to do this from their last drive of the second quarter on:
12 plays, 74 yards, TD
3 plays, 8 yards, Punt
11 plays 81 yards, TD
6 plays, 48 yards, FG
10 plays, 60 yards, FG
3 plays kneeling at the end of the game.
Three of the last five Seattle possessions resulted in 10+ play drives against a very good defense. Four of the five ended with the Seahawks scoring. That doesn't happen by accident. They are a very, very good offensive football team. Not only are they second in the NFL in yards per game, they had the fewest giveaways of any team in the league.
Again, that's no accident, and it has little to do with the schedule. The easy schedule may have helped, but lets face it, they don't get to pick who they play. They face whoever is on the schedule and take it from there.
We'll find out on Sunday. I'm not going to put money down on either of these, but were I to do it, I'd take both home teams and the points. I think Seattle and Denver will both win by a TD or more.
Big Ben and Steve Smith give me pause on those picks. . . and both could lead their teams to wins. I just don't think either of the road teams will be able to put together three close to perfect performences in a row.
About 12 hours to kick off. It's gonna be fun.

That is probably the first post that I've read that actually gave me pause on my picks.
I take the Steelers for one reason only. Matchups, I just believe that for this one game, their defense matchups perfectly with Denver's offense. Pittsburgh can play their natural 3/4 without alot of nickel or dime looks. The Steelers simply stop the run. Overall throughout the last 5 years, noone does it better. But, this game is more a toss up.
Something about Seattle just doesn't seem legit to me. They beat Washington last week, but I don't believe they would of ever gotten Tampa Bay. Lets face it Washington was LUCKY to get by Tampa Bay in a fluke win.
Seattle -- Alexender is still feel is overrated. I've never seen him come up big in a big game. Hasselback -- is not Favre everyone. He has won ONE big game against a team that couldn't move the ball until the fourth quarter.
The reason I give Seattle any chance at all is that bad ass offensive line. That line is solid.

Well it was damn near 75%. Washington almost covered last week. Remember that last pass on 4th and 2 that hit moss in the hands in the endzone? He catches that I cover. Anyway, I digress. Yes, I have years where I lose. But over the last 4 years I've done pretty well for myself.
2003 +6500 for the season.
2004 +3450 for the season.
2005 -600 for the season.
2006 currently +2500 for the season.
Anyway, the key to winning money is picking underdog winners. Such as Pittsburgh last week. For example, Picking Pittsburgh straight up was 100 to 400. Meaning 100 bucks bet wins you 400 bucks. Picking Carolina last week was like +130. But, then picking them both in a Parlay together straight up with no points netted some crazy cash. Something like 100 bucks bet netted you 700 dollars.
Yes, I love betting on football. I guess you could say it is an addiction, but one my wife monitors. She controlls how much money I can put into my account in a season. Once I lose my money, I can't gamble any more till next season.
Any winnings she gets half :(.

You loaded with money or something?
Just winnings from the season. :(
For some reason, I still can't convince myself that Seattle is that good. Even after losing 1100ish dollars today and who knows how much last week. Think 500 or so.
Oh well, that is why they call it gambling. Seattle played a real nice game today.

No game next week
Sorry, in two weeks.

Ah well, atleast astrofan isn't still trying to convince us that the Panthers would have won if they had more time or something.
Better luck nexttime man.

It would of only gotten worse.
Panthers were outplayed, outcoached and looked out of their league.

They won the NFC West, 13/14 games during the regular season, won the NFC title game, and one game from the NFL title. What more do they need to do?

Yeah, I lost a ton of money on this game. :(
Seattle will lose to Pittsburgh next week.
I think in Hold em terms, this is considered going on tilt.
You have two weeks. If I were going to bet money, I'd check everything I could and make sure I was calm and collected before I did it.
If you still think the Hawks are going to get their asses kicked, by all means go with the Steelers. You won't be the only one.
I do urge you to be careful. Remember, some people kept betting against NE because they didn't think they were "that good" and would lose to playoff competition. They lost a ton of money.
If you still have any profits left, take the wife out to a nice Valentine's day dinner and roll the leftover money into next year. There are going to be much, much easier games to pick next season. I wouldn't touch this Super Bowl with a ten foot pole.
I would have only gambled on one of the games today. (the Seahawks)

Agreed.
This postseason has been really tricky.

I cashed out after I hit big last week $2000. I left myself 800 bucks to bet with for the Conference games. I won Pitt and rolled all my money over to Carolina. Why did I do that? Because I'm a dumbass. Should of just bet half, like I normally do. I think I was trying to show off :o :)
When next year comes, I'll do my normal deposit to start the year.
I'm down to 50 bucks now and I think I'm just going to put that on TEAM USA to win the world cup of soccer. If we win, long shot - we get 3000ish dollars for 50 bet hehe.

Score the most points in the NFL. Wait, did that too.

::ahem::
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! GO HAWKS!
Sorry, had to do it now just in case the Superbowl goes ugly for us. I'm so happy for this team right now and really hope this defense continues it's performance. The offense gets the glory but damn have those boys on defense really taken care of their business in the playoffs.

Or you could give it to me and take the odds that I might repay you 60-fold at some point in the future.

Now, that is truly a waste of money. You have a better chance putting it on the Jets to win the SB next year.

Seattle/Pitt in the SB, that's so obvious.
As obvious as I thought. Astro, let's talk. I'm good at picking games (9 of 10 straight up this year in the playoffs, including 6 underdogs and picked Seattle/Pitt at the start of the playoffs), but no good at betting (i.e. hate the risk). Let's say I had bet a $100 on each of those games, do you have any idea what I would have been ahead? Just curious.
As for the SB, I'm still mulling it over.

Thanks for the love and support.
Make fun of me, I deserve it. But, in the end I still ended up +2500 bucks for the season :).
Congrats to the Seahawks fans out there. You guys deserved it!
