I didn't see a thread yet for today's games like we have had the previous two rounds.

Here's hoping for 2 solid and exciting games.

Deacon was talking about the importance of the Super Bowl and he
finishes by saying "Even careers are defined by it." Then he follows up with a "Just ask Peyton Manning."

Bailey should have had six there. That's where Ben has to be very careful today. The Broncos will take away the TE read. If he looks off the TE and makes a quick, stupid throw to the outside, one of them will go back all the way.

kingfc22
01-22-2006, 02:23 PM
And we have our first challenge of the day. Let's hope the refs can get it right.

I think it was a good call to say it wasn't a fumble.

Abe Sargent
01-22-2006, 02:26 PM
Hell, just seeing Deacon Jones is awsome. He's the DE who named a tackle of a QB behind the line while looking to throw a "sack." It was his speciality, and the statbook changed as a result. These days, careers of DEs are defined by the number of sacks they have, and it is all due to Deacon Jones. Definiately one of my choices for an All-Time NFL Team starter.

Big Ben has twice did the look to the middle, throw a prayer to the sideline play and it almost burned him both times.

I dont' know what to think. Should I be happy Denver alomst forced three turnovers or worried that they all went the Steelers way and maybe it's just not the Broncos day?

Defense isn't playing that bad. Had a chance at three turnovers on the first drive. Didn't get any and then Jake gave up one.

If you'd have told me how this game was going without looking at the score, I'd be happy. Denver is running fairly effectively, and have open receivers out there.

But Jake's the wild card. He can't turn the ball over like that and if he does, Denver will lose, no matter how well the D plays.

I'm not sure what's not to like about Parker. 4.7 yards a carry, 12+ yards a catch. . . and four games of that came with Tommy Maddox/Batch at QB, I think you can deal with that type of production.

TroyF

Denver is in trouble. For some unknown reason, they've changed their gameplan. They've rushed five and six guys every play all year and are now rushing three and four 80% of the time, including on the last two third and longs.

They are trying to be cute at the wrong time. Do what you do and if you get beat with it, so be it. But don't lose by changing your gameplan 150%. It isn't worth it.

Pumpy Tudors
01-22-2006, 03:16 PM
This is the fastest first half in the history of football. Also, I think the Broncos are replacing their defense on third down with me, Subby, and Suicane. Sorry we keep blowing the coverage, Bronco fans. :(

TroyF
01-22-2006, 03:18 PM
I've never been this pissed off at a Denver team as I am now. Again, third and long, rush four.

I have no idea what they are doing. They've won 14 games with the blitz and for some reason have decided to get away from it in the championship game.

It's just beyond reason. Denver is getting EXACTLY what they deserve here and if they don't switch back to what they are in the second half, I hope Pittsburgh runs away with the game and beats them 45-3

No, they aren't blowing the coverages, they have done a 180 from what makes them good. They got here a certain way and decided to "trick" the Steelers with the same ridiculous standard defense of last year.

I am estatic on how well we have played so far this half. Up 21 is amazing at this point. Parker is gonna get a boat load of the carries the next half, Praying we can jump on his back and he can get us there.

jeff061
01-22-2006, 03:35 PM
Well that's a given ;). It's always been Manning, Brady and Palmer being in another league. Ben's been like Brady early in his career, keep it conservative when it helps the team win and now when they needed to he's let the ball fly.

Pumpy Tudors
01-22-2006, 03:36 PM
I know that Pittsburgh gets the ball to start the second half, but if Denver can get the next score and do it quickly, they might get enough of a momentum shift. The turnovers hurt, but it's the poor defense that's the cause of this 24-3 score. The Broncos have had lots of chances to stop Pittsburgh drives on third down, and they're not doing it. It's not completely over yet, but the Broncos don't have much time to turn things around.

cthomer5000

My impression before last week was that Big Ben was one of the more overrated QB's in the game. I had never really seen him make a throw worth anything when I'd watched him.

Good first half, but I hope the Steelers can keep it up, and the Broncos continue to make mistakes. I think it'll be a much much closer 2nd half though. Shanahan will prepare his team during the half.

He also has some of the best running instincts I've seen in a QB. He's not all that fast, but he always seems to make the right move. He's either very lucky or just has that sort of sixth sense.

Cowher is putting on a coaching clinic

Really when you consider the QBs he's taken this far, he's alot better coach then he gets credit for.

Difference being now he actually has a young good QB, and he's made the AFC championship game both years with him thus far. I think theyre gonna be in good shape for a while as long as they keep Ben.

I need you to settle an argument for me about a rule. Can you decline delay-of-game penalties? Say it's fourth down on your opponent's 40. It's fairly tough to plant the ball inside the 20, but by taking the penalty you give yourself five more yards. I remember seeing teams decline this penalty so their opponent wouldn't get the extra yardage to play with. Am I correct?
-- Garen, Indiana

You are correct. All penalties can be declined, although some just go away by rule. An example is the 5/15 penalty, where the five-yarder is disregarded by rule.

Oddly enough, this same conversation has come up with regard to the Second And Ten football game (the latest changes finally convinced me to purchase btw, the computer version has really come along nicely). So far, no one has found anything contrary to the answer above.

He also has some of the best running instincts I've seen in a QB. He's not all that fast, but he always seems to make the right move. He's either very lucky or just has that sort of sixth sense.

He's also incredibly hard to tackle - kind of like how Vince Young was in college. I've seen some really good players with clean shots at him end up on their back with nothing to show for their efforts.
