Gentlemen:

I love gambling. I generally only bet on College and Pro Football. Once Pro Football season ends, I'll finish up on college basketball till March madness ends.

My gambling season is coming to and end, but I will chronical the last two months till the end of March Madness or my money runs out.

Rules
Every Year my wife allows me to use up to $500 dollars into my Bet On Sports account. I deposit this money at the start of the college football season. I generally put in a 100 dollars at a time. If I run out of my $500 my season is over.

As noted in a few anti Seahawk threads, I've had a decent year up till this point. I was up $2800 and pulled out $1900 and bought an XBOX 360 along with games and some other goodies for my wife and daughter.

I was supremely confident going into the Carolina game and put $1262.00 in assorted bets on Carolina over Seattle. I was counting my money up before the game was even started. I assumed, I would win easily and have well over $2800 in my account again. Well Carolina was bown out and I was left with $50.00

A bit defeated, I almost through in the towel for the rest of the season. I even thought about not betting on the Super Bowl!

Since that day, I've been driven and on a quest. I want to take that $50.00 and build it into at least a $1000.00 by the Super Bowl. I'm starting the dynasty a bit late, I'm currently at 479.00.

I put my 37 bucks on Oklahoma over Baylor. Oklahoma is favored by 11 1/2. This seems like a no brainer to me. If anyone knows the shape of Baylor basketball, they understand.

I followed this up by picking Air Force Falcons over UNLV. I love picking the Acadamy teams on the road. It was a pickum and I put 23 bucks on Air Force and won.

I might be off a dollar or two. In the log I'm viewing, it shows the money won which is usually a bit less then the money bet. When I lose a bit, it shows the exact money I lost. After tonight, I will have all the actual bets correct.

I'm currently 142.00 but remember 50 bucks is bet on team USA.

I thought the Cajuns would cover vs West Kentucky, but they didn't. I lost 25 bucks there.

UCLA was finally healthy and were playing for the division lead in the PAC 10. I took them vs Oregon and they won.

Not alot of games to choose from this night. I decided that Manhatten was a real solid pick. They were like 7 and 2 in their conference and have been a program on the rise the last year. Fairfield has a losing record. I couldn't understand how this was a pick um. I put 75 on the game.

I did a two team parlay on Harvard and Manhattan.

A parlay pays as follows 25 bet nets you 65. You have to pick two games correctly. I lost the Harvard game.

I finished the night at 200 - 50 = 150.00 on the quest.

I thought Marquette would give me an upset over Pittsburgh, so I put some money straight up on them. I also bet on them to cover. I hit the cover bet and lost the straight up. Still netted some money on them.

Being a Penn State fan, I pretty much dislike all Michigan based teams period. So, I put some money on Wisonsin to cover and well they were handled easily. Dumb bet on my part.

I lost a $50 two team parlay. I hit the Georgetown part, but lost the Rutgers Louisville game. That is again bad on me. I have a rule against betting against Rutgers. I always pull for them and they made me pay for being a traitor. I grew up in NJ.

I bet on the North / South game. Put 50 bucks on the North. A few reasons for this. They had the Titans coaching staff. Well one reason for the bet. The North had the Titans the South had the Niners coaching staff. I'll take that bet every time.

So far the day was pretty rough for me. I lost A&M for 30 bucks vs BAYLOR!!! and lost on Villanova. They were in control then didn't cover late in the game vs Notre Dame.

Ever Once in a while an instinct pick comes where you can feel and upset. That game was Oklahoma beating Texas. I put the rest of my money on that game and went for broke. Well Oklahoma handled Texas for me.

I finished the day at 263.00 - 50.00 and that puts me at 213.00

I picked a teaser for the first bets of the day. I took Kentucky and Minnesota. A teaser in basketball allows you to add or subtract 4 pts from the line. Both were underdogs and I added 4 pts to each of the lines. Minnesota won straight up and Arkansas covered. The thing about teasers, is you have to win 2 bets to get your money. I won a 100 bucks on this bet.

I took NC State over clemson and won a 53 bucks. NC State was coming off an embarassing loss to Seton Hall and I had a feeling they were going to come out and win this next game. Took them till the 2nd overtime, but they won.

Seton Hall vs Syracuse. Seton Hall was getting 9 1/2 points and I just felt that was too much. Not only did they cover the won the game straight up.

Finished Today at $529.00 - the 50 for team USA and I have $479.00.

Thanks, on certain games I intened to solicit the help of FOFC on making the call. It will be on games, that I normally wouldn't bet on but are televised. Occasionly, there are games on TV that I don't get a read on either way. So, I'll drop a small bet on it or not bet on it at all. For these type of games, I will setup a thread and get FOFC to help me make my decision. Doubt, I'll bet more then 50 bucks on one of those game though.

Good question and one I've asked myself before. I gamble from August through March, but I put a cap on the money I spend. If I reach my limit, I simply stop gambling till the next season comes around.

Contrary to what many think here, I do quite well most years. My wife doesn't mind too much. I watch quite a bit of sports, but I would if I didn't gamble. One reason, I like to gamble is it makes games that would normaly be of no interest to me, interesting.

I follow sports as probably most of you do. If, you spend this much time at something and can make some money you may as well do it I say.

It is a longshot bet agreed. They are definately not the favorite. But, I think they should be considered top 8. I'm a pretty big soccer fan and woke up during the middle of the night for the Korea world cup. It was a blast especially when we beat MEXICO 2 to 0. I work in Houston in the oil field and quite a few of my friends are Mexican. So there was quite alot of shit talking going on before that game. When we won that game, I was grinning ear to ear and talking a ton of smack.

Oh tomorrow Night Louisville @ Villanova. Louisville coming off a tough loss to Rutgers. I have to see where the line is before I bet on this game. It is prime time on ESPN 7:00 PM Eastern.

Louisville has their leading scorer back and the kid is solid. He came back for Rutgers but had cramping that caused him to leave the game a couple of times. If Villanova is giving +8 or more, I will probably take Louisville. Need to check on the status of Dean before gametime though. Probably won't bet till about 15 minutes before gametime tomorrow.

The line opened at Louisville +11. Tempting to bet on Louisville right now. I'm going to wait for the preview tomorrow and search the web for any articles I can find on these teams.

I've put 150 on Texas Tech for plus 13 1/2 vs Kansas.

I put 179 on Louisville +10 vs Villanova.

Lousiville was +11 last night, so people are betting on them and the line dropped.

Texas Tech is real young but have battled pretty tough all year. Probably a risky bet, because they are young and on the road. I'm taking them in this game, because of their coach. Bob knight has a way of getting his team to perform for nationaly televised games. I think they will cover but not win.

Louisville, I'm real tempted to put money on them to win straight up. The odds would pay out fantastic. I'm gambling that their coach who was bashing them did this for a purpose. Everything seems to be going against them but I just feel an upset brewing.

Let us see what happens.

Texas Tech game is the kind of game, where I might make a half time bet on the other team.

Meaning if Texas Tech gets blow out in the first half, I'll try and cut my losses by betting on Kansas in the second half. By doing this if Texas Tech manages to cover the game, I either brake even or win a bit of money. If Kansas blows them out second half, I can recoup some of my losses.

Big Game Day -- There are some really big games today in College Hoops. To start off we have Wisconsin at home to Illinois. Wisconsin was beaten at home last year by Illinois and is the only conference loss they have ever suffered at home under their current coach.

No. 6 Illinois (19-2) at Wisconsin (15-5)

Wisconsin has been playing poorly as of late. Losing to Ohio State and Michigan and North Dakota State. Their only win in the last four games against Penn State.

Illinois has been playing lights out all year and lost to only Indiana and Iowa. Two very tough teams.

Hey Astrofan. Interesting dynasty I hope you can keep your head above water so you can continue it. Something I thought you might be interested in is a <a href=http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=3965103&page=0&fpart=all&vc=1>trend </a>from the 2+2 forum about ranked teams going on the road who are underdogs against unranked teams. Long story short. People like to bet ranked teams so if the line opens with the unranked team favorite then a lot of bets go in on the ranked teams side creating some value for home favorite. Anyway, this trend has done very well over the years but is just at .500 this year. Something to keep your eye on.

For this one matchup, I feel like Wisconsin is in a slump and Illinois has their number. They've won the last three matchups.

Certain teams such as Manahatten this year, I've been taking as a road dog because they have a much better record.

I agree that Ill is coming on strong and Wis is fading but I still really like Wis in this game. Brown and Augustine don't play nearly as well on the road and Wis plays some good defense. Even with that NDSU game Wis does play very well at home. In fact the top 7 big 10 teams (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Mich St, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ohio State) are 25-1 at home against each other. The only loss was MSU over OSU and that was double OT. Anyway, you are the one with the money on this game so good luck to you.

Seriously, I'm pretty happy she has this limit on me. The other part of the agreement, is half of the money I win goes to her. I've bought her a computer desk, a new ring, flat panel monitor etc... So she is usually ok with my gambling.

Before, I was married about 12 years ago or so, I didn't have any discipline at all and umm got myself into some debt. This was before internet gambling and the debt was with some guys in Philly :).

I was sent a question about what site I use and how lines work. Here is a brief explination. If anyone has questions let me know.


I use a site called www.betonsports.com

It is a very highly regarded site. They payout and have good odds on parlays. I've collect a few thousand dollars from them this year and they pay directly into your bank account. Over the last four years, I've probably collected around 12k in money from them and they always pay up.

Anyway, on this site it works like this.

You have a line that pays -110. What this means is there is a point spread on the game. For example Texas is favored by 12 points. That would show up as Texas -12 vs Mizziou. Whatever team has the minus sign means they are the favorite. If you take the team that doesn't have the minus sign they are the underdog and get that many points added to their score.

The -110 means this. If you bet a 100 dollars on the game you win 90.

The other line is called the money line. That is based on odds. For example a team might be -200. That means that you have to bet 200 dollars on that team to win 100 dollars. Another team might be +340. That means you bet a 100 dollars and you win 340. Games that are played on the money line have no points involved with them at all. They are considered straight up.

A parlay is when you bet on multiple teams with one bet. You get odds on them. For example, if I take two teams to win and put 25 dollars down, I would win 65 dollars.

A teaser is different in certain sports. A teaser in football allows you to move the over/under or the line 6 pts in either direction. But, when you tease you must get both bets correct or you lose. This type of bet pays on the 100 bet and 90 won.

Notre Dame has beat WV the last 9 times I believe. ND has been playing tough all season and they don't seem like a team that will pack it in.

Texas Longhorns are angry, Mizzou is an ok team. But, I just think there is entirely more talent on the Longhorns and they will make them pay. I pick Longhorns to win by 20+.

Seton Hall is on a roll and I don't think they are going to let Providence step in there way.

Rutgers seems like a no brainer to me. Syracuse I think is a bit overrated and Rutgers is a young up and coming team. Rutgers will cover if not win this game outright. (That also scares me, something an old gambler friend of mine used to tell me. "if the bet lets too good to be true it usually is"....

Not a good night. South Florida came up small. I figured they would finally win a big east game against Depaul. They played tough against some pretty good teams. Figured they would win one. Princeton just felt right and Harvard just seemed quite a bit better then who they were matched up against.

I've ridden Manhattan to victories in 2 previous games and figured they would come up big for me tonight. Not so....

I just put $220.00 on Minnesota over Portland. Minnesota is playing @ Portland and is -3.

I called the Iowa game which started me off to a good day.

I've been trying to hit that one game for three days. That one game is the game, that effectively gives you 1 and 1/2 times your money. So if you have 125 dollars in and you bet 100 it puts you around 215. It took me three days to find that bet.

I managed to find two games today that really screamed out to me. The Iowa game, which seemed like a no brainer and the UCLA game which i thought was a lock to win, but turned out to just barely cover.

I pick winners alot more in football then in basketball. I almost always play the point line in basketball. To me it is easier to pick the upset in college football straight up and win the really good +200 or more odd style bets.

Anyway, I hit that parlay along with the straight winners of both games. That put me up to 518.00.

I picked ODU, because I didn't know who to pick in that game. It was on TV and I couldn't get a read on it. When I was 19, I went there to visit one of my friends from highschool. We partied at that campus and it was really the first time I experienced the bar scene at a major college party town. So I picked them. Just a random guess and I guessed wrong :).

The game I felt great about in the afternoon was streaking Seton Hall to at least keep it within eight at home to UCONN. I though UCONN was a bit overrated, I guess not. That was a statement game for UCONN in the perfect trap before they play villanova.

Anyway, I lost $156 over those two games. I followed it up with two nice victories with UNLV for $68 and then hitting both the first half and whole game for Memphis and the Lakers.

I follow stats, I follow injuries and pay attention to trends. But, more often or not I bet on the story. What is the compelling story. I try and find the cinderella teams and rid them during their hot streaks. Good money to be made, by simply finding a story and following it. Just remember all streaks come to and end, so don't ever bet it all unless you plan to stop after that if you lose for the rest of the season.

Well I put another 50 in. I feel good about some games tonight.

I put 42 in a parlay which pays 109 on Oklahoma and Ohio State.

I put 20 on Pittsburgh -5 vs Providence.

I put 38 straight up on Oklahoma.

If I come out of this with zero money, I'm done for the year. The magic has left, the streak is over, kaput. I didn't feel great about last nights games and I should of layed off of them, or bet quite a bit smaller. Instead, I felt invincible and bet way to much money.

Tonights games, I feel great about and fully expect to hit my parlay.

I put 51 on Georgetown tonight.

I put 20 bucks on the Rockets +5 1/2 tonight.

For the year I was at +$3900.00 dollars.

I've put $171.00 back into my account. Talked it over with my wife and she said, I can keep going for a bit longer.

I'm at $3729.00 for the year after the above losses.

What is a good number to stop at. I would like to gamble through March Madness.

I'm thinking of making $3500.00 my cap. Which means, I would of lost $400.00.

I think $3500 would be a good mark...however, if you want to gamble through march madness, I might make my bets a little less than you have been (more in the 20-25 range than 50-100 range), so that you can ensure some longevity.

Well, I lost both Georgetown and the Rockets the other night. I've lost like 7 out of my last 8 picks.

I put another 50 in and hit a game last night. Princeton again! Yay. I lost a small bet on the Rookie All Stars. I picked them to win straight up. It was playing +600 so, I said what the heck.

Anyway. I have 33 bucks on St Johns -3 1/2 over Depaul. I also put 30 on Tenn over Alabama.

Due to real-life getting in the way of my football watching last year and the changing of the US law relating to online gambling, I had a very short year. It became such a pain in the arse to deposit and withdraw money, I didn't do it very often. I also lost $350.00 pretty early on.

I am going to kick this off again though once college football starts in 2007.

I came back to this dynasty after reading all of my personal worshipers thrash me about my predictions.

Anyway, I look foward to kicking this off again.
