View Full Version : How tall are you?

This poll was inspired by Eaglesfan27's thread about dating taller women, and in the responses it seemed like FOFC was trending above average height-wise. I can't recall if we've done such a thing before, but here goes nothing.

How tall virtually everyone I come in contact with THINKS I am: 6'1" or 6'2"
How tall I REALLY am: 5'10" or 5'11", depending on when I measure, so probably right around 70.5 inches.
It really is funny, and I have no idea why, but consistently, from around age 14ish to today, most people have thought that I'm a decent bit taller than I really am. I recently mentioned it to my brother, who is a little over 6'1". We were both sitting down at the time, and he swore up and down that we were the same height until we stood up and I showed him. It really is strange.
That's me in the middle, clearly the shortest Lewis brother:

It's the 'fro. :pYeah. That's what makes it more odd. If I had a lot of hair, I could understand it a little more. From 14ish-20ish, I wore my hair very, very short in just a basic fade. From 20ish-23, I had a very low flat-top, and then at 23, I shaved it all off, and haven't had more than a half-inch of hair since then.

unfortunately, I'm not sure if the really good stuff got captured on film - mainly, me in tight, very tacky pants stuffed with a couple of socks (and various other objects as the night progressed). or of me grinding or playing with a massive set of giant boobs, or of my wife and another girl dipping their nipples in the chocolate fondu fountain.
heck, that pic is even before I threw on the eye liner and the tacky mirrored shades. you'll just have to let your imagination wander.

I'm the second shortest in my family (my mom, sister, and brother are all taller than me...only my dad is shorter).
Needless to say, height isn't a big (pun intended) factor for me when dating. Let's face it, if I eliminate everybody shorter than me, I'm eliminating a good portion of the available men! ;)

Funny thing at my youngest son's two year checkup. The doctor said that at two years of age, you can roughly double a kid's height and you'll have his height at adulthood. I remembered hearing that from my dad when he made a big show of measuring our oldest son and told us he'd be a hair under 6' since he measured at 2' 11 3/4" at 2 years. Weird thing again, I was kinda sad to hear the doctor tell us that our youngest would be about 5' 8" when adult. Say what?!? I'm close to 6', my dad is a good 6', many of my uncles are at 6'. Then I remembered that my father in law is about 5' 7", hehe, oh well, we won't love him less for that, just thought my feelings kind of caught me by surprise :)

That "rule of thumb" is very rough and not scientifically validated. There are so many factors that go into reaching "maximum height" that I wouldn't count on your kid "only" being 5'8". Then again, I think 5'8" is a good height ;)

you know what doc, after seeing that you are 5' 8", I automatically knew you'd be the first poster to refute that rule and say 5' 8" is perfectly acceptable :p
I also think it's not a perfect rule and whatever tall either of our son will end up being, we'll love them just as much. Will probably feel weird the day they actually end up being taller than I am, although it'll take them longer for that to happen compared to being taller than their mom (5' 1 1/2" :)). Andrew is getting closer by the week already...

It really is strange.Going by the picture, you seem to have smaller legs, presumably making you look taller when you're sitting. Or it could be a case of people thinking very good (or very bad?) about you. When people look up to someone, they tend to picture them taller than they are.
Personally, I'm somewhere between 6'1" and 6'2" (voted 6'2"), but being relative skinny, people will easily mistake me for 6'5". It even helped me to play the height first position of center in volleyball, despite being too short to play it for normal standards. It's very cool given that until the age of 16, I used to be the smallest kid in class.
