Are any of you up for a multiplayer club? I read about it all the time at SI Games forums. The multiplayer is great for these games, but you have to all have a set night and time to play. You meet up and connect to a server. Then everyone can play the game as if the were playing single player, but everything is syncronized on the server.
You can set a time limit on the turn advances, I think to make sure people to slow the pace of the game down to much. I did a FM league 2 years ago with two guys from work. I did an EHM league with the first version and that was GREAT.
It is just hard to find people who will commit to dates and times to play.

I have an extremely rigid schedule right now that would allow me to play on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights. I would be interested in an EHM league. I've been playing that game quite a bit lately.

I played with just one guy before and it was hard to coordinate schedules at times. I think it would be very hard to coordinate even 3 people's schedules, but perhaps I'm wrong. I'd like to do it at some point with FM as the game becomes even better in MP IMO, but I'll probably be moving in the next few months so the timing is wrong for me to commit right now.

Sounds like a blast. Don't know if or when I could commit to something like that, though.
(Never mind whether my wireless would stay stable long enough to participate fully.)

I played FM MP on my laptop with a wireless network just fine. It just took me a bit to figure out which ports I had to make available on the wireless router.

I'd potentially be interested in an FM game. What might be cool would be some sort of empty cupboard game, although I'd try any type of game. How long does it take to get through a season?

What Marc Vaughn needs to figure out is a way to include a cloning program with Football Manager.
Then I could clone myself. One of me could live my regular life. The other could play more Football Manager.
Either that or a pill that allows you to get by on only two hours sleep a night. That would work fine as well.
I think I had a point, but I don't remember what it was.
Things like this happen to me when I only get three hours sleep because I was up all friggin' night watching little circles with numbers on them run around a green screen.
I think I wanted to say that, yes, I'd be interested, but it wouldn't work for me because of reality/work/wife/work/kids/lack of sleep from playing FM already/stuff.

When I tried it, it took us about 80-100 hours of PT per season. It depends quite a bit upon the speed of the host computer and the connection rates. Of course, it would also depend upon which league was used and how many games were in the season. Not to mention how long people scour the transfer market.

I usually play LLM games. I would be up for MLS league or an English based league?

Not quite what I meant.
My connection is ridiculously unstable. I mean, I go to play NWN for 10 minutes, connection's gone, takes 15 to come back up.

Ahh, I forgot that you mentioned those problems.

Yep.
And yet I get grief for running a hard cable for Xbox Live. With my PC experience? Not going wireless for the important stuff anytime soon.

Thats normally not too much of a problem with our games as you can set AI settings for your assistant to obey when you 'drop out' ... only thing you might find annoying is if you miss matches or drop out in the middle of one (in which case your assistant will handle it for you) ... that being said some people at SI who will remain nameless find their AM does better in matches then they manage ;)

i'd love to, but i can't really commit to a rigid schedule. i'm with GB and his cloning idea.

So what have we determined? We have 1 vote for hockey and 2 votes for FM? I can pretty much play any night after 9:00 Central time. I can probably make 8:00 central time pretty easily also.
This really is quite a bit of fun, what league would you guys like to make a run at?

That's why I let my AM coach in EHM, and will probably in FM, since I'm more just into letting the game play and looking at the pretty graphics and going "oh neat", stats "oh neat", pretty graphic "oh neat", stats ''on neat"...

I'd be interested in an FM game, but a new semester just started (today, actually) and I've got enough on my plate already that I'd rather not commit to anything more til I've had a chance to see how it all shakes out.

St. Cronin you still up for the EHM game? I'm trying to get one or two of my friends from my area to join up. Do you want to do an NHL league?

Let me know what sort of schedule you come up - I'm interested.
