I am having the sae AC adapter problem everyone else is...I have to wiggle and put pressure on the plug cuz their adapter on the MOBO is soldered crappily. I shipped it back to them almost a year ago to be fixed when it was under warranty. now it is not they wouldnt fix it so I took it to the local guy to fix (you might remember that this is the problem Airhog offered to fix if I could mail it)....he fixed it and now 3 months later...same thing. I just got off the phone with their business ethics dept. and they told me to sue. They show no record that they ever fixed it to begin with. I told them I would spread the word, she laughed and said, go ahead. So here...dont buy an HP laptop. im sure thatll dent their bottom line.

there is a fix though:

you have to buy this plug in, and use it to get power to the computer. this sucks

I used to be an HP employee in the pre-Carly Fiorina days. I don't think the management back then would have tolerated that. She destroyed a lot of what made it a great company.

That was the company I really wanted to work for when I started school but by the time I was done, she had left it in shambles.

How do Dell's rate? Laptops being advertised at $400 bucks after rebate.

I purchased an Inspiron 8600 in June of 2004 and it has been a great purchase! It is a very good gaming laptop (Radeon 128mg) and also great for work (office xp). I have upgraded it to 1mg ram and plan on upgrading the 40gig hard drive (5400rpm) to 100gig.

Last year I bought my wife a Dell Inspiron 6000 (newer model of mine) and she loves it. A friend of ours came to me for some advice and help with buying laptops for both her children who are in college. She ended up buying them both Inspiron 6000's (last year also). They have only had good experiences as well.

Then for Christmas we helped my stepson purchase a laptop. Yes you guessed it he got an Inspiron 6000. We bought it for him and he is paying us back. He wanted it primarily for gaming, so we had it upgraded with a good video card (ATI 128) and more ram. He loves it as well.

So for this family we love our Dells!!

All laptops usually have the dreaded AC adapter round connection issue at some point in time.. heck my cell phone just had that issue.

I still wonder why they haven't changed that design yet?

Stay away from Dell Latitude D600s - AT ALL COSTS!! I've replaced so many system boards and HD's than I care to remember.

is there a way to deal with it with cellphones short of sending it in for service? mine is starting to have that problem i can tell, although fortunately my HP laptop isn't having the problem yet.

aside: when i had my WinBook and I had that problem they fixed it free-of-charge, although i did have to go without it for ~3 weeks while they did it.
