I could have sworn we had a thread on this but I guess not.

I don't like having a ton of extensions running- for instance, I use a different FTP program for FTP'ing, mIRC for IRC, Eudora for Email, etc. But there are some things that are quite nice for helping the browser functionality of Firefox.

Indispensible:
AdBlock Plus - Get rid of ads. 'nuf said. If you don't understand how it works, make sure to get the second one as it will do everything for you.
AdBlock Filerset.G Updater - I do my filters manually on my desktop, but on my laptop, this is a godsend. Quick, easy, updatable filterset

For the hattie people out there:
Foxtrick - It's great! Does a lot of fun stat calculating and site linking. Shouldn't play hattie without it
HTRatings Translator - (was down earlier today, tho) For us old fogies, it shows the old ratings next to the new ratings.

Tabbed Browsing:
Tab Broswers Preferences, Tab Mix Plus - Frankly, at this point, I don't know what each individually do as I've used both in tandem for quite a while. All kinds of tab features like locking tabs, unclosing tabs you accidentally closed, etc

Personal:
keyconfig - I got tired of losing long posts to accidentally hitting ctrl+r or backspace. This allows you to customize your keyboard shortcuts.

Themes:
Pheonity - A light but nice looking theme that I use on my desktop. It takes the colors from my StyleXP theme so that's why I use it.
Noia Extreme - I use this on my laptop. It's probably the best Firefox theme. Really sharp looking with some nice functionality built in.
Azerty - I used this for a while. Nice looking, a little light, but, really, themes aren't that functional anyways.

Sadly, HT Ratings Translator doesn't work with the new version of Firefox (1.5.0.1).

Hopefully they'll fix that soon.

AdBlock - block those nasty ads.
StumbleUpon - nice extension used to discover new sites.

Web Development:
Colorzilla - used to identify a particular color scheme that I may stumble across while browsing the web.
Web Developer - A great extension with a number of tools to edit CSS, resizing for different windows, HTML, Feed and CSS validation, etc.
IE View - open a page in Internet Explorer
Aardvark - good for cleaning up a page before printing and also to identify elements in a web page
FlashGot - used to save things using an external download manager
GreaseMonkey - used to edit and test out some DHTML

I currently use Thunderbird since it has a built-in RSS reader. But I will have to look into that other Adblock when I have a problem blocking out an ad. Hasn't happened yet, but we'll see.

it should be in the menu when you right click on a page. For example, highlight a word and right click search dictionary

Also, is there an extension that will do this:

In internet explorer, when I highlight an FOFC thread, a paragraph or so pops up as a description.

In Firefox, I only get one line of description.

Is there a way to get more lines of description/preview?

I just search for a word on a webpage as a way to get to the dictionary page, then type in whatever I want in the search bar.

Yes.
I don't recommend FasterFox anymore, I've experienced to many issues of pages loading very slowly on even the least webserver intensive setting.

Stumble Upon is the greatest time-waster of the Internet. I always come up with something new in a few clicks that take care of the next 15 minutes or three hours. I checked 'sports' 'photography' 'graphics'and Photoshop as my main interests. Once you've pressed the up or down thumb several dozen times, you'll get very targeted surfing.

In fact, let's get ready to Stumble!

/tkWell, I just got it here at 2:50am so it is out there, updated, and working with the current version. That said, the site's flaky so I also downloaded it to my hard drive for anyone who needs it.

I just dowloaded FireFox and was looking at this thread and browsing the list of extensions, and saw this extension:

"Long Titles

Due to Mozilla bug 45375, long tooltips are broken with "...". This is especially annoying if these tooltips contain useful or important informations. Long Titles shows non-cropped tooltips for the title attributes."

Maybe it will help.

old thread but figured I'd post here, I found a great sports score updater called RUWT? some pretty neat features such as showing what games are on tv and what channels in your local area, and some kind of rating system that rates games that are more exciting than others. Pretty cool.

--Bump--

Ok, so Firefox angled me into upgrading to Version 2.0.x and now my tabs don't work the way I want. I've tried every possible setting both with tabbrowser prefs installed and uninstalled. When I click on a link from, for example, FOFC, it opens into a new WINDOW and not a new tab.

Any suggestions???

I would assume there's just a setting somewhere -- I will try to find it somewhere. I have 2.0.x without any tab extensions and mine open into a new tab.

DanGarion

There is an option in the Tabs settings that says.

"New pages should be opened in"

x New Window
x New Tab
x Current Tab

Did you adjust that setting?

RPI-Fan
10-31-2007, 10:07 AM
When I have tabbrowser prefs disabled, I see that setting. However, I only after the first two options. Of course, I choose the second one (New Tab). I still have the same problem.

I am on version 2.0.0.8 -- which one are you on??

So frustrating!

Adblock+ is a must
Stumbleupon is probably the abne of any and all business computers

One I love that noone has mentoned as yet: FoxMarks bookmark organizer.

It allows you to bookmark whatever you want on one machine, and when you close the browser down it synchronizes that set of marks with one on the server end.

The next time you open a browser with foxmarks and log into it (any computer anywhere) your bookmark file is synched up again and you have them all to use.

Absolutely LOVE this since I carry a laptop everywhere, have a desktop at home and use 2-20 different machines a day at work. Really lets me get busy quickly.

Another umentioned one for developers: FireBug

And, RendeR, google toolbar does the bookmark synchronization as well.

Was thinking about this thread a few minutes ago when I was talking with someone about which extensions would be absolutely required to be available for Chrome before I swtiched.

I decided on photobucket uploader and smart bookmarks bar.

ESPECIALLY smart bookmarks bar. I can't stand any other way of using bookmarks now. I have a big row of icons for bookmarks with no text. Greatest thing ever. Try it out, I love it. Here's a screenshot:
